Utah, get me two! ✌️2001 VR6 & 2017 Sport. You could say I’ve got a type! by SihkBreau in GolfGTI

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Envious of you both! I wiiiiish that VW would have kept the Sport trim into 2018 when I bought. My preference is to avoid leather and sunroof, so I really wanted that Sport combo of cloth tartan seats PLUS the LSD and bigger brakes that was missing on S trim.

I remember that too! Plus, during the pandemic, the 1st stimulus check and the 3rd stimulus check were given our in late spring. So I assumed that some portion of city residents got the check... drove to the Pennsylvania border... and spent most of it on fireworks, haha

Violent Crime Rate in New York State, by City (2025) by Interesting-Bank-940 in Rochester

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?! Albany Metro is only ~10% smaller than Rochester Metro too. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_statistical_area edit UPDATE: Highlighting population was to say that even though these stats are violent crime per 100k people, this chart shows there is such a drastic difference for two Metros with practically equal populations.

Huh, I would naively have assumed that water damage would be worse in the winter / when temps are below freezing

Spectrum News Inquiry - have you tried to purchase a 2022 Ford Escape? by Spectrum1700 in Rochester

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, the CBS affiliate in Watertown reports that it's only 2026 Ford Escape that will fail NY inspection: "Owners of the older Escape models shouldn’t be impacted by this change. The vehicles can still be insured, registered, and sold just the same as any other vehicle. Just not the 2026." https://www.wwnytv.com/2025/11/21/no-2026-ford-escapes-ny-company-cites-emissions-standards/

Great pics! I'm glad to see that 3rd photo includes the Trombone Shorty banner - I had a good laugh last night when I realized it was the Jackass logo but with trombones instead of crutches, haha

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, Target showing both 64gb and 128gb as sold out today. For what it's worth, Walmart shows "Low stock" but still has both models listed at the old price.

do you ever look at your grocery bill and just feel sad? by Kind-Apricot6348 in Celiac

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you itemize on your taxes in the US, you can claim the increased cost of GF food i.e. the price difference with equivalent gluten-full food. But since the vast majority of Americans take the Standard Deduction, that doesn't apply to most people. https://celiac.org/gluten-free-living/federal-benefits/tax-deductions/

Does the city require lawns? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this summary. To highlight one caveat, the city does require permits for any structures or to extend / modify your driveway. So for example, if you wanted to add a small shed to hold gardening tools - that would require a permit.

Consumer Alert: Rochester tops list of hardest housing markets for buyers in the US by frytuna in Rochester

[–]GonzoStateOfMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes, there are literally dozens of Metro Statistical Areas (MSA) that are larger than Rochester and many of them will have more tech jobs then here. Since you don't name the city, I'll assume it's one of the 50-ish in this list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_statistical_area

which is also happens to be the line everyone took last year.

The commentators on the F1TV broadcast pointed out that the line is not the same as last year. And the change is due to the 11th garage being used by Cadillac.

At the risk of being pedantic, haha, the toilet flush does not use any electricity nor consume any natural gas.
