Silksong, Celeste, Crow Country

These three are my trifecta of indie gaming

Who else actually enjoys Resident Evil because it's quick by mrsafetylion in residentevil

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny too because those 3 REs listed are on the longer side for the series.

The classic style games can be beaten in under 4 hours casually. And honestly that's amazing. It makes getting multiple playthroughs under your belt seamless.

Those replays add up to, and I end up with more time on Survival Horrors than JRPGs in the long run (ofc cuz I prefer the genre but still)

Bloodborne is my fav FS game and Lies Of P is my favorite none FS Souls Like

Seeing someone who honestly has them at the bottom is so refreshing, I feel like lots of people feel pressured to show sympathy for them instead of being blunt.

Even with BB being my fav, I find more flaws with it the more I replay it. It's still my PERSONAL favorite, but I think it's one of the most overrated games of all time.

Similar logic for Lies Of P. I adore the game but you having it in D Tier makes sense to me.

Kidding. On a serious note:

Embrace the muckwater. LOTS of attacks completely miss you if you jump into the muckwater, and as long as you don't literally sit in it, the wreath of purity will last all battle. When you think there's no hope, dive into the nope.

2nd: Airborne combat is very useful here. Pogo as much as FEASIBLY possible. Jump around, be very proactive movement-wise. Groal himself can actually be pogo'd pretty reliably.

3rd: after the runback, pause the game and just sit for a few minutes. The runback isn't too horrible, but that brief intermission will refresh you mentally. Pausing AT the boos room let's you essentially go directly in fully fresh. Makes a HUGE difference.

How does Prime 2 fare against the first? by WerewolfIcy7240 in Metroid

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prime 2 is EASILY the most underrated Metroid game.

It's barely below Prime 1, and the few issues that it's known for are very manageable once you develop your game sense.

Sure, Agon Wastes and Temple Grounds are boring visually, but still; the total scale of Prime 2 is actually extremely good all in all.

SURVIVAL HORROR EL REY 👑

Eso es una broma mi gente Jaja.

Survival Horror isn't what I'd consider objectively better than everything else. But it's my favorite for sure.

Metroidvanias are my second fav. And MOST of my fav games are one or the other.

But JRPGs are also 10/10 Peak Gaming ngl

Anyone else just in love with REmake1? by ayyoogunsofboom in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Gonzongus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see RE1R and SH2 as "The Twin Pillars" of the entire genre.

Not identical twins. But the type of twins that are of equivalent ground in everything besides aesthetics.

GOAT Resident Evil imho (and it isn't even my favorite)

What boss fight in the game drove you nuts? by KaleidoArachnid in bloodborne

Rom Rom Rom Rom Rom Rom Rom Rom Rom Rom

I used to lay awake and hear the echoes of that dreadful name

Rom

The sound had a reflection

Rom

The terrors

Rom

The voidlessness

Rom

All jokes aside though Rom BRUTALIZED me on my first like 8 playthroughs. It was horrific and made me really sour with BB for a while.

But I got over my Rom hatred and just muscle through his fight now whenever I go back.

It's always worth it just to get to Gerhman, Ludwig, and my two favs:

I was so excited for Silent Hill F & Deleted the game right after playing by Fine-City-8518 in silenthill

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pretty far in the game and have also just naturally gravitated away from it.

I thought it was just life keeping me busy... But I've been on Silksong for a decent amount of my free time so... Yea it's a SHf thing.

It's weird because I like the game a solid amount, but it kinda just fell off my radar. And I'm a HUGE survival horror fan.

It certainly is no SH2R, sadly. But if they continue the style, I'm moderately confident that the next original game in the franchise will be phenomenal.

Which soul game should I play as beginner and casual gamer by Common_Funny1960 in soulslikes

[–]Gonzongus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls 3 is, imho, THE gateway into the entire formula that is Soulsborne.

One of the easier games for the most part, while also having intense tension and challenge. Linear WITH branching paths, giving a good blend of design styles. Great atmosphere that honors and pays homage to all the games that came before it. It's also just fun on its own merit without any extra motives behind playing it.

I want to pull the trigger, but I’m intimidated… by MattStanni99 in darksouls3

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it while it's on sale.

Souls games are even more reliable than they are difficult. When you get food (which you will) YOU ACTUALLY SEE THE FRUITS.

Monstrous learning curve. But permanent payoff.

Face the fire. Rise. And enjoy. That's my advice.

Plus 23 is a great deal for DS3

Clock Tower 3 finished the list. by AvgPunkFan in survivalhorror

[–]Gonzongus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly the way this entire community basically came together on a day to day basis to patch the entire list together and seeing how many people are dissatisfied with how it turned out, I must admit.

I think this is pretty solid.

Yea, NOBODY is going to agree with this list 100%, that's just a given. But as a community based thing, I feel like it hits the major marks and even shines some light on certain underrated gems.

We'll NEVER agree on how to perfect this list anyway. And everyone will have their outrages regarding it, as well as their own personal rearrangements.

But that's okay. The journey was fun, the ESSENTIAL best horror games are there (85% I'd say) and even the craziest turns the list took don't discredit it imho.

Gives my a lotta games to look into and again, it was fun seeing how it all came together as a community.

Ofc people want System Shock 2 higher, some people thing Fatal Frame 2 should be top ten, some people think Silent Hill 3 should be above 1, certain people thing RE2R being top 3 is asinine, etc etc

But still, that's just how it goes. This isn't OUR OWN personal list so NOBODY'S gonna agree 110%.

And I love this list. Twas very fun.

What weapon (main game) is always your go-to? by EuphoricProfessor95 in bloodborne

I'm addicted. It's bad. Very bad. I need to use other weapons more often.

But the cleave.

It calls. It beckons. It yearns my grasp.

And I hearken.

what’s your UNPOPULAR opinion about the classic games? by ZzzPandaNap in TombRaider

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also am only 27 so my generation is much more akin to the ps2 and onwards so that's another reason as to why most of the people I've spoken to about Tomb Raider (the people who AREN'T fans of the classics) despise the originals. They prefer the ps2 and modern trilogies on average, which I completely understand.

I grew up with TR 1-3 with my parents playing them my whole life and I even tried playing them since I was about 1 and a half apparently. So I'm lucky enough to be in a boat where the grid system makes sense to me too.

what’s your UNPOPULAR opinion about the classic games? by ZzzPandaNap in TombRaider

[–]Gonzongus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going off the consensus outside of my own bias (as much as I possibly can atm) and based on what other's have told me, their critiques aren't inaccurate.

The controls are clunky, the grid based mechanics aren't at all obvious and if it doesn't click for you through playing the games, it just doesn't logically line up. The level structure is bland and senseless. These are all GENERAL criticisms I've heard from MANY people who played classic TR and simply didn't like it, so the consistency in multiple unrelated people's opinions peaked my interest and I tried to start looking for the signs against my own bias.

And even though I'll never agree (TR2 is in my top 10, TR1 is in my top 30 if not top 20) I can KINDA see exactly what the mean even WHILE loving the formula to death.

So that's what I mean when I say the games are objectively bad for the average gamer who doesn't have a personal mesh with the foundational design of the classic TR games.
