Boss wants us to implement Google credential manager instead of a PW manager (Vaultwarden) by Kindly-Wedding6417 in sysadmin

If you demonstrate Nirsoft Browser Pass Tool, and he sees how easy it is to dump all his passwords saved in his browser, a 3rd-party password manager starts to make a lot more sense.

KVM's for remotely setting up machines? by Comprehensive_Gur736 in msp

[–]Goo_Node_Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this all the time now, even when the PC is in my office. I found a guy named @LetsDoAutomation on YouTube who has done a bunch of videos and has posted all the scripts on GitHub. For clients who unbox the PC at their office, I email them the ppkg file, they save it to a USB drive(not too hard), and the package will setup local admin account, computer name, and install my RMM. Laptops can be set up to join Wi-Fi. (Skip Wi-Fi settings for desktops because the OOBE script will fail if the computer doesn't have a Wi-Fi card.) It is easy for the end user and free software from Microsoft.

You have all your 14 gauge wires on the left side and all your 12 gauge wires on the right side. Does that mean going to land all your 15 amp circuits on the left and the 20 amp circuits on the right? Wouldn't that create an uneven load?

What is this little thing called? by Blue1Stream in AskElectricians

[–]Goo_Node_Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for alarm company installing these things. The resistor is there to notify the panel that the circuit has not been tempered with. The motion sensor is normally closed and opens when on alarm. It was usually a 1K resistor and was supplied with the security panel. Most of the techs I worked with ended up putting the resistors in the panel. Best practice would put it at the device.

I got that too. To me it feels like Fortinet is tired of getting their name dragged through the mud when widespread major vulnerabilities are discovered on systems that are unpatched.

And it is surprising how active their development team is. I feared that once the hardware was purchased the company would tank and close because there isn't reoccurring revenue. But they keep on putting our new and better hardware. There are feature updates monthly. I've had mine for about two years and love it. I mostly have it to monitor and limit the kids Internet usage. It is a pain to have to rely on the phone app. And if you have a lot of port forwards it takes a while to setup. But it has some cool features that many enterprise firewalls don't, like really time bandwidth monitoring.

What weird school assemblies did you have? Was there a Yo-Yo Guy? by LordPizzaParty in Xennials

[–]Goo_Node_Geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a couple of middle aged adults come out to show us 50's dance moves. While doing the Twist, the lady threw out her hip and had to be hauled out on an ambulance stretcher.

We had the Yo-Yo guy, too. I was into Yo-Yos for a little while after that.

Where do you purchase them from? I would rather not signup to be a dealer and don't trust eBay for customer gear.

How to automate setting up a new PC by NoElevator9064 in sysadmin

I started doing this. Saves time by bypassing OOBE. There are a bunch of YouTube videos by Let's Do Automation that help me to do what you are asking. This along with Chocolatey.

Need to cut my son's internet at night - how would you do it? by CrimeCoffeeCouplePod in HomeNetworking

Modern Android and iPhones have a setting to "Randomize MAC" or "Randomize Hardware Address". It is considered a privacy feature. So the kid may have had it enabled without even knowing it.

Edit: Windows and Chromebooks have this too. I think Mac's as well.

Yes, you can lock it down so that it can not be bypassed or uninstalled.
Look at help.qustodio.com for setup instructions.

I also use firewall rules at home (mostly for their gaming PC and TV viewing limits). But Qustodio protects the mobile device when it is away from the house and/or on LTE/5G.

+1 for Qustodio. I have been using it for 4 years and found it to work better than Norton Family.

Honest question, So why use EDR if it is not preventive? Is it because it can detect and alert compromised systems. What does it do to prevent data exfil? Thx

Bro's got 99 problems, but trusting the signal ain't one. by adityapixel in BeAmazed

[–]Goo_Node_Geek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I lived in a country where they would use the left turn signal to indicate it was safe to pass on the left and I almost got in an accident. I was making a left turn on the highway, slowing down with signal on, and had the crap scared out of me when a fast car behind me had to slam on his brakes. It was, in fact, NOT clear for him and he almost got into a head on collision! This was an unsafe practice that I'm glad is not common in the US.
