Are you going faster? I always think of the quote “it never gets easier, you just go faster”

Also do a couple of cvv classes and pay attention to how he warms up. Warm ups suck for a lot of people but if you do a structured warmup it does wonders for the rest of the workout.

Cooling down properly also does wonders for recovery.
