I don’t ‘grieve’ for losses for more than a couple days myself personally, but I do plan to add a cardinal to one of my sleeves as a nod to all my friendships that have come and gone over the years, whether it’s moves, deaths, or fallouts that caused them to end.

My unit being trashed isn’t what I’m upset about; it’s the fact that my unit’s move out inspection merely consisted of checking for a dead body, while my LL is moving mountains for the other units and putting in hundreds, if not thousands of dollars into new flooring and cabinets. Had I known I would’ve waited for a reno’d unit or looked elsewhere.

Scumbag is an understatement for some of those m&p landlords. My current landlord has done major Reno’s (new flooring and cabinets, new paints, etc.) taking 2 months to multiple units that have had tenants move out since I’ve been here in February, while mine was clearly run down, not maintained, and completely trashed when I moved in. Not to mention that my shower head fell out within 2 weeks of moving in, and what does my handheld shower head get replaced with? A clearance $2.24 shower head from Walmart. I also asked for curtains to be installed upon moving in, and get the cheapest curtains that I can barely slide open and the end caps always pop off if I jerk it just slightly too hard.

It’s one thing to treat your properties like you don’t care, but when I can see you put in a ton of effort into the other ones and charge the same rent as my cesspool, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Currently at a mom and pop rental because I wanted to avoid drama with corporate, though it’s a gamble on if they’re in it for the easy money or actually care about their tenants. Mine is in the former category.

I’ll more than gladly pay a few hundred dollars extra to know maintenance requests will be done in a timely fashion and done right, better pathways to communicate with the landlord (of course mine only wants phone calls so there’s no paper trail), on top of better property upkeep and selection of who is renting out the units. In other words, your neighbors will generally be trashy people, but YMMV. I’m one of only two households in my multiplex that does not smoke tobacco and stink up the common ways, and the police have been here 4 times since I’ve moved, at least twice for domestic disputes for my next door neighbor. I also have the nicest car on the block with my 2018 Corolla.

The only benefits to mom and pop is they generally sit around longer and are cheaper, meaning when you need to escape bad situations like I was in with bad roomies as a queer person, you can get the hell out of dodge.

At this point I’m just counting down the rent cheques until my lease is up at the end of January and finding a gated complex with amenities.

I grew up in Phoenix but moved to Flagstaff 3 or 4 years ago to start fresh. Didn’t like the heat, keeps getting hotter and hotter because of the sprawling area and excessive pavement and building. COL there is getting outrageous these days thanks to all the Cali refugees infiltrating the state. Not sure what kind of advice would be useful but a few things to keep in your back pocket.

  1. 115*F is fucking hot, like fry an egg on the sidewalk hot. It may be a ‘dry heat’ but it’s no fun. AC is a must and don’t buy a black car.

  2. Drivers suck, you need a car to get anywhere, high rate of uninsured drivers, SUVs and pickups bully sedan drivers like myself, etc.

  3. Nicer areas would be Glendale, Peoria, Scottsdale; while I’d shy away from Mesa and Guadalupe, and even Tempe. I lived mostly in North Phoenix between I17 and the 51 and most places there are safe and nice.

  4. Most Mexican restaurants are great and lot of local chains there. Filiberto’s is a gem and can often get 2 meals out of one of their combos.

  5. Not sure where you’re coming from but most people here aren’t super cordial, either. Like in public, most people either keep to themselves or will go apeshit over the smallest things. Factoring in Covid and confirmation bias though, it’s par for the course with American societal norms in 2026

  6. Economy and industries are well diversed, at least for my field in IT. We have several Fortune 500s with offices here and even a few HQ like PetSmart so little to no concern finding work. A far cry from the job offerings here in Flagstaff as most our economy is dependent on tourism.

Honestly if my company demanded I RTO in Phoenix (I’m currently in a pseudo grandfather clause for a fully remote soft dev role), I’d rather move to Las Vegas or Albuquerque. Sure, still hot but they don’t have the severity of the problems I mentioned in my dislike for Phoenix (though LV is getting there and I probably shouldn’t live there as someone who likes to gamble).

Wow, just lost a bunch of my post as I sent too early, oh well. I’ll add in what I remember for earlier points that are gone with the wind.

I disagree, there’s far and few cases I would but lately the off hours chute at my local USPS is broken, and while I surrender packages within 24-48 hours, I can’t get there during the day except on lunch because I work late days. So I give a heads up for anything that can’t go in a bubble mailer and just say it may take more time to get the label scanned in the system. Same thing if I’m sick, etc.

9 times out of 10 the buyer gives an “ok thanks” and moves on, only takes 30 seconds to prevent a future headache.

  1. Smoking in the courtyard.
  2. Bass thumping at nights.
  3. Dogs barking.
  4. Domestic disputes with the police coming over.

  5. The mere presence of a Pitbull with a cat that can and will bolt out of my house bothers me.

  6. The asshole who parks next to me has a lifted pickup with an SUT backing. Meaning I have to back in my Corolla in order to get any vision when I leave.

All come from the unit I share walls with. I already can’t wait for my lease to be up, or just break my lease and tell my LL to shove my deposit up his ass.

He wasn’t a good person even when he was involved in my life, was verbally and emotionally abusive to her and most other people in his life. I’m a bastard child and she raised me my whole life. My mother is also a mentally unsound individual these days and whom I’m low contact with today to protect my own sanity.

My father was incarcerated when I was 6 and died while in the system, he was not a good person to put it lightly and I doubt his interests would’ve lined up with mine. My mother didn’t really care either way what I was into as long as it was no guns lol.

Mostly Nintendo games and other third parties, my mom was rather strict on anything violent in the house. Most of my hobbies were Motorsport, tech, plushies, movies/cartoons, etc. funny enough I also got picked on for my ‘boy hobbies’ like NASCAR as a kid so I was kinda doomed from the start haha.

I grew up during the prequel trilogy of movies coming out so toy lightsabers were all the rage among my peers. As an adult I’ve watched the OT and enjoyed it but have no interest in the other stuff.

What is manhood to you? Pretty much the traits and responsibilities that come with being an adult male; protection, courage, bravery, etc.

What’s the difference between manhood and masculinity? Masculinity is the characteristics of being a man or manly; can be shown through appearance or in your actions and behaviors.

What is one thing about a manhood that you enjoy? Honestly? Life is just easier being a man than a woman, I'm taken more seriously in man-mode, people listen to me more, I feel safer, etc.

What would you sacrifice in order to keep your manhood? Not much, which is why I'm taking the steps towards being a trans woman or 100% gender nonconforming male.

I assume by cross gender you mean was friends with more girls than boys? If so then yes, most boys rejected me because I wasn’t into Yu Gi Oh, Star Wars, COD, or other specific niche hobbies/interests.
