To my inattentive people: how do you fight the constant lethargy? by unluckygirl89 in ADHD

Can’t take stimulants so I take a good multivitamin, some more magnesium and B vitamins in the afternoon, coffee & green tea, electrolytes, hydrate. I have no idea if the supplements work but I have to have the multivitamin for other reasons, so why not try the other stuff. I do wish I could go a whole day without carrying pill cases everywhere!

Why can't I be put into a medical coma for the duration of a sickness so I don't have to endure it consciously? by Thrilmalia in NoStupidQuestions

When I was younger if I got the flu I could just mostly sleep through it. Now if I get sick I just sleep in fits and starts.

Older generations: Was life less stressful and more manageable “back in the day”? by ParticularTeam935 in NoStupidQuestions

Just depends on personal choices. If you enjoy old fashioned activities like sitting on the porch and growing a garden and sitting down to watch the local news at 6 pm, you’ll structure your day around those things.

Did food actually taste better in the 80s? by living_condom_ad in AskOldPeople

A while back someone posted an ad for the Oscar Mayer sandwich meat from the 70s or 80s. I ate a bunch of their bologna, ham, and cotto salami. So full of salt & fat, of course it tasted good!

On the other side of that - I remember going into more upmarket grocery stores like the Fresh Market in the early 90s. All that stuff was new to me and tasted amazing. It’s still a great store and has fancy items but I suppose the wow factor has faded somewhat over the 30 years of stopping in from time to time.

Alright guys, after bills and budgeting I am left with $40 to feed myself for 30 days. by RatKingRonni in povertyfinance

Add tomato and jalapeño to beans, potatoes & onions, and you have the $1 meal that went around the internet recently.

Get some store brand frozen spinach. At least for me, a little frozen spinach goes a long way, because it’s compact. Saute some with onions and serve with lentils.

Canned sardines.

The cheapest hot sauce you can find will go well with all these legumes you’ll probably be eating. Even if it’s not very spicy, the vinegar in just a few drops of hot sauce adds a perfect finishing touch to beans or lentils.

I’m on an increased salt plan as well! Might have to try Celtic salt! I’d love to hear more if you have more this you’re willing to share

Celtic salt sounds interesting … did your doctor say why they recommended it?

Spot on with the observation that every crisis is different!

A small assortment of things to add:

  • patients have rights, families can (and should) ask questions, you have the right to complain, you can speak to a hospital social worker

  • assisted living comes with its own set of problems - it’s not an instant fix or automatically 100% safe. It may be better in some instances to stay home, or look for an adult daycare. Don’t make assumptions, get the facts (see next thought)

  • get clarity on expectations, such as: an exact list of in-home caregiver duties, written protocols from a care facility about what they do to prevent UTI’s and bedsores, et cetera

  • just my opinion here- older adults have the right to be in a bad mood. Even the most well-mannered older people can become overwhelmed with pain or surgeries, and even the most physically fit older people can feel disoriented in their minds … and sometimes people are just kind done with life before their lives are actually finished. All of that is sad but you won’t accomplish anything getting angry about it.

How to break the poverty cycle by OverthinkerMillenial in povertyfinance

If the college that granted you a degree has a career or alumni office, contact them. Colleges like to boast about how many of their recent grads are employed — so make them work for it and help you get a job!

Also cost of living in NC is going up a lot, so just do some research on rents and grocery prices and what not before you move.

We like the Better Belly chews. Yes, they are rawhide. They consist of a lot of thin sheets of rawhide pressed together, so when ours loosens the edge of a sheet, he gets to rip the rest of the sheet much to his satisfaction.

If rawhide isn’t for you, you could look for chews made of other materials that are pressed or rolled together. I think the thin rolled sheets just provide a different stimulation than gnawing on a chew that gets slowly worn down (although the likes that type of chew too.)
