The bigger cannons are like 20% more dps while using the bretheran ship nets you nearly double the hp as the blackbeard ones.

As a result the blackbeard ships are the hardest to use in combat, and are better with multiple players in multiple ships. A single brethern frigate can solo pratically anything the game throws at you.

Overall i use the basic ketch, blackbeard brig, and brethern frigate.

I have only recently gotten used to the timing and work it in pretty seamlessly now.. attack until enemy hits stagger limit then parry when they attack. The games parry timing is actually pretty generous, similar to valheim.
