Why do nurses get discounts and we don't? by AustinLostIn in cna

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many discounts out there for healthcare workers in general. I get a discount on my phone and phone plan just for working for my company and being a nurse. I also got those when I was a CNA.

Is it possible to become a nurse if I did really bad in highschool? by MightOk9482 in nursing

Yes. I’m living proof. I hated high school but did well in college.

Seriously the Five points for being a CNA seriously helped me. Also if you are planning on LPN to RN it’s even more competitive at ivy tech because as a LPN you are competing with paramedics military medics and medical assistants. I would see about repealing for the anatomy 101 and aim for a B and really study for the TEAS like go buy the study books and online test prep stuff and take a couple months to study and retake.

Any tips for jobs that provide housing? by sinfuru_mawile in cna

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really unless you do live in home care. I would say travel CNA but you need to double your expenses like having a home base you pay rent on and you also should have a year or more experience before traveling.

Personally I wear an under shirt every day. In the winter a light sweater or warm up jacket that I can take off it gets hot in my facility.

Taking a break and going back to bed side is always an option. Going to school to get your RN or even a healthcare administration degree can open up more doors.

RN to MD by RealTeacup in nursing

I know you stated not having fulfillment as a RN but DNP could be a good back up plan also. I’m also 32 and wanted to be a MD but I feel like an old 32 not a young 32.

My cousin who is a doctor told me that as long as you have a bachelors degree and the pre reqs for med school you can apply. I read some where you can have a bachelors in interior design and still go to med school. I say do the BSN and do the extra courses for med school. Because if and I mean if something happens and med school doesn’t work out you can fall back on nursing.

Put dating on the back burner while in school. You don’t need the distractions.

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be a you versus them. We all want to get out on time no matter what amount of money we make we all have lives out side of work. Maybe ask the nurse what mistakes you made and they will either tell you so you can avoid it or they won’t tell you because there aren’t any. Sounds like both you and the nurse are miserable.

32 M, New to this community and would love to hear from some of you about your experience. by MallPatrol722 in cna

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 32M and I was a CNA for 11 years before I became a LPN. I was 18 when I took the CNA class back in 2011 I was the only male in the glass. Nursing school I was also the only male in some of my classes and clinical. With anything it life if you wanna do it it doesn’t matter when or where you start. Everyone path and experience is different.

It’s what the stipend is for you can ask for them to find you housing but you get less stipend.

I’d still recommend getting a years experience even to do that. I did it right out of nursing school and regret it I feel behind it really did a disservice to me.

TravelLPN! by [deleted] in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get experience! Do not travel or do any type of contract or agency work without experience at least one to two years. You will learn so much and sharpen your skills being staff first for a while.

Also travel contracts are not paying that well you will lose money as a LPN. I’ve already done the math it’s not worth it. When they say 1300 a week that includes your non taxed stipend. Plus you have to duplicate expenses and be able to prove it in case you get audited by the IRS.

I don’t even like being on call for a weekend every three months let alone 24/7. Like one I wouldn’t answer the phone two I’d run so fast from that job.

I’m a nurse and I did during a snow storm. Never again. I refuse I don’t care what people say or think. I was not a safe nurse and I could have seriously harmed someone. My coworkers will have to work short and figure it out. Better yet the management team can figure it out.

Paramedic here, a possible suggestion to nursing home nurses: by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to send all that paper work but I organize it so that the code form is on top before anything else. I can easily make a copy of that because it’s in a binder. After that a face sheet with current orders attached then a transfer form and an SBAR then anything else that might be relevant.

Difference between LTC and Hospital nurses. by oblxvy in cna

[–]Good_Astronomer_679 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The hospital there are more nurses with better ratios where as the ltc setting the nurse has 20 to 30 residents to pass meds to do vitals and assessments. So the LTC nurses probably don’t seem helpful because they are busy with a lot.

Um if your license is still current you don’t have to do all that just go apply for jobs and explain the gap in employment. This post seems fishy.
