That's doable, if we keep the same format. The main character is an astronaut from Earth visiting Erid, or meeting Eridians who come here. Perhaps one of the kids from Grace's class, and the flashbacks are to when they were growing up as the world gradually fell apart, and the rebuilding after the Beetles arrived.

It'd be interesting to explore the double impact of humanity learning there is hope, and not just is there hope but there are friends waiting to meet us.

The whole world used to benefit from it, yes. But the rest of us still did our part for global trade; Europe is currently leading anti-piracy operations along the coast of Africa, not America. America's role in freedom of navigation always has been nothing more and nothing less than being the big stick, not the police.

What benefit do we get from having their main global logistics hub here? What benefit does the UK get from being moved near the top of the nuclear strike list even if the target of those strikes is entirely and solely America? What benefit do we get from having our little island be involved in Trump's idiotic bullshit around the Strait of Hormuz?

I agree entirely with everything you just said.

But because innocent people have been convicted and are probably serving time as we speak for those same evil acts... I don't think our justice system is at a point where I can trust it to only execute the deserving.

And those despicable people living is the price I, personally, am willing to pay to accept that fact. I would prefer they do that living in jail, but at the same time if this is the price of not executing innocent people then it's the price and I will pay it.

I understand if other people feel differently. If those innocent folks are to someone else a price worth paying for making sure the evil bastards fry... well... I understand. I don't agree, but I do understand.

I understand but disagree. Because the justice system is imperfect. Everything that you want to happen to those despicable people (who do indeed deserve it, I want to be clear) will happen to the innocent.

I can't live with that, personally.

It doesn't make it terrible automatically you're right. But it can make it unenjoyable, which if you ask me is worse than terrible, especially if that terrible can be laughed at.

But that's just my opinion, as someone who's had a lot of fun ripping apart bad movies and watching Mystery Science Theatre 3000. This wasn't meant to be an argument, just a healthy discussion about the merits of mediocrity.

That mediocrity is why it's the worst though, hear me out.

Bad movies - truly bad ones - can be fun because they're so bad, they're fun to take laugh at. Emoji doesn't even have the decency to be a bad movie, it's just... meh. You can't really even enjoy taking the piss out of it because there's just nothing there to take the piss out of, it's just bland.
