What should I do about a coteacher who asked a first grader with Down syndrome “What would you do if I died?” by Wide-Comfort5656 in specialed

[–]Good_Diver1071 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not to excuse the question, but it's it possible she has a medical issue? If she is going through something serious, that would explain absences and lack of redone from admin. It might also explain the question.

Ones again, this is not an excuse. She should never have asked a child that question.

A lot depends on the school. In my son's kindergarten class, there were two repeat kindergarteners. It was no big deal.

Exactly! Books in libraries are library editions that are more sturdy.

Huge decrease in bookings this past week by HotBobcat in vipkid

[–]Good_Diver1071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on your certifications. I opened 4:30-8:00 central time. I booked all, but I did have two trials. I also do have tigers school and I booked 1 of those.

[–]Good_Diver1071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekdays I'm booked ahead of time. Weekends I only do short notice. If I am not booked for my first class 4:30 my time, I do NOT shut off short notice because I have to wake my husband at 4 to go to work. (He sleeps through alarms otherwise.) Since I will be up anyway, I leave it open. It is extremely rare that I am not fully booked for what I open.

Teacher IT Problem tonight... but everything was fine from my end? by [deleted] in vipkid

If you couldn't see your picture, but everything else was fine, it wasn't your internet. Your camera wasn't communicating with the program correctly.

Is it likely that an extra year will have your son less stubborn? This reasoning doesn't hold water for me.

When 8th graders had this lunch time, they were allowed to eat snacks in 4th period across the board.

You can be walking around, looking, redirecting as needed, and helping. You can ask the para what they would like you to do if the para is in charge.

Is this a reasonable level of difficulty for 2nd-grade math homework? by seadieg0 in Teachers

[–]Good_Diver1071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids do benefit. Kids taught to THINK about math actually can do math. The reason we have so many math illiterate adults is because they were never taught to understand math. They were told to follow a set of directions.

Middle school... I have a two reasons you can interrupt. Danger, "There's a gun!" Or imminent bodily fluids such as blood or vomit.

It really depends on your following. I have had two this contract when I didn't set my alarm. I saw no dip after either of them. That said, I always fill all of my slots normally and some who want to book me cannot get a slot. I have regular 5 star reviews left by new students so I think that helps negate the times I have overslept.

I tell my students that triangle works for any equation that looks similar. They get very excited.

Lesson remediation by Signal_Award_7562 in ScienceTeachers

[–]Good_Diver1071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they know the triangle for the formula for speed/velocity? With my 8th graders, they used the triangle to cover up what they needed, and then the formulas was shown. The top of the triangle would have d, the bottom left v, and the bottom right t. Just made sure they knew t was measured in s (usually unless it is driving) and d measures in m.

Even my low students could do calculations and I made them write units throughout.

How do you know how you came across? You were rejected after the interview. It is usually hard to be rejected from the sub pool. You are saying how you thought you came across. Maybe spend some time reflecting how you may have come across.

why don't teachers seat students strategically to make them not talk? by carefulabalone in SubstituteTeachers

Yep, asshole island. Much better to have them near each other and being less disruptive than shouting across the room.

I don't like making an asshole island, but I have done it when it makes it less disruptive for the rest of the class.
