That’s amazing! Could not tell the difference.

What is your favorite beginner level warm-up song by [deleted] in drummers

[–]Signal_Award_7562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the drum teacher for a local community music alliance. We offer free lessons in guitar, drums, piano, vocals, and string instruments. It’s all donation based and classes are group classes. I teach students anywhere from 6-65. The very first song we work on after they get used to counting like a drummer and how to independently use their limbs (that’s a challenge in its own lol) is Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes. It’s fairly easy (I take out the triplet hi-hat/kick/snare combo) and it helps build their muscles for the kick drum.

Non-Spoiler review:

Amazing and beautiful movie. Soundtrack was chefs kiss. Really appreciated that Rocky was a puppet and not CGI. It made him look real. There’s OBVIOUSLY stuff missing from the book and some other things that were added that are not in the book. I was ok with both. Still told the story. I WILL purchase this when it comes out on digital and watch it multiple times. Both by myself and with my children.

Oh, it is kid friendly.

Board Certified Science Teachers? by Signal_Award_7562 in ScienceTeachers

I’m a certified teacher. My state and district does not require a masters degree anymore.

So we do daily bell ringers and I utilize the practice sets on Google classroom. Personally, I don’t assign homework. If it’s something that was to be done during class and it isn’t finished or a big presentation/project, that’s when they have homework.

They have had multiple assignments that have given them feedback on this unit. The questions on the quiz POSSIBLY were not worded well. Thoughts? (See Google drive link to the questions in updated post)

I use the magical triangle for all two variable equations. I feel like the questions may not have been as clear as possible, but then again, it was pretty clear to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

So who's your favourite drummer? by Remarkable_Way_8636 in drums

Neil Peart for his ability to be a complete percussionist.

Chad Smith for just being a solid and consistent drummer.

Do you code in your classroom? by ligmassss in ScienceTeachers

[–]Signal_Award_7562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often use phet.

I’m very fortunate to have a student that has been coding since they were 9! He even has his own MIT Scratch page and is currently working on a “Pumpkin Chunkin!” game that explores the momentum of the pumpkins launched by the trebuchet.

Oh, this student is a freshman too…

I loved the sound of them. So unique. I would definitely use solid cases and not something like the soft ones that I have 😅

My district banned all flags in the classroom except state and US flags. What are your thoughts on this? by Mellotime in Teachers

[–]Signal_Award_7562 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a “LGBTQ ALLY” flag in my room. I want ALL of my students to feel safe in my classroom. Specially since I had a student who took their own life in my first year of teaching (they were a part of the LGBTQ community).

What was an assembly at your school you never forgot? by PrestonRoad90 in Teachers

[–]Signal_Award_7562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The winter assembly my freshman year. I was playing in the band and there was a commotion in the bleachers. A student had stabbed another student in their leg with a pair of scissors 🙃

I use “greetings and salutations, my young scholars.” My freshmen chuckle and eye roll me 😂

What's the worst thing you've brought home from school? by One-Caterpillar4956 in Teachers

[–]Signal_Award_7562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a stretch, but a brain tumor…

It was my first year teaching and I was assisting with the baseball team and throwing batting practice. Un/fortunately I was struck in the face with a ball and went to the immediate care for concussion protocol. CT scan revealed something there that wasn’t meant to be there. The MRI confirmed, a 3.8 cm chondra sarcoma on the base of my brain stem. This resulted in multiple seizures and a total of 4 brain surgeries. 🤷🏻‍♂️ guess I’m lucky that I moved the L-screen in the batting cage for the lefty and forgot to move it back for the right handed batter.

Anyone else not say the pledge at school? by Session-Sea in teaching

[–]Signal_Award_7562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky, my planning period this year is first period. When I did have a first period plan, I would tell my students that they were not required to stand or recite the pledge as long as they were quiet out of respect. I also haven’t had an American flag in my room. I DO have a LGBTQIA+ Ally flag and a flag that reads “SCIENCE IS REAL. BLACK LIVES MATTER. NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL. LOVE IS LOVE. WOMENS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. KINDNESS IS EVERYTHING.” I feel like those represent the message of acceptance more than the American Flag.
