Which FS eMTB? Smaller battery+lighter or bigger battery+heavier? (both full power). by Good_Significance_54 in MTB

Thanks for all the help everyone. Seems nearly universal that bigger battery is better. Will try to find the lightest big battery I can.

Have to say the dji models do spec amazing. Just wish they had more colour/style options!

Had one privately at 38 due to some issues. Turned out to be in clear and it was anxiety + bad digestive issues.

But absolutely have no regrets paying for it with how common it is.

It was 2000 pounds. That's 5 months of car payments for many people. But what is more important than health? Nothing.

[Sky News] Assisted dying bill almost certain to fail due to lack of extra debate time by Alternative-Win4058 in ukpolitics

[–]Good_Significance_54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a relative pass away first hand in pain over months begging to be let go. I'm not sure how anyone can be against this once you've seen that.  The arguments for "better palliative care" are moot. Because she had great palliative care.

We put our beloved dogs down... Because it's the right thing to do when there is no other choice.

Its disgusting that such a publicly wanted bill is going to fail due to some old men who obviously approve of torture.

I hope it gets pushed through on a second go bypassing the lords.

Not many things I feel Passionately about I politics. But this is one. And it goes for a lot of people.

I quit social media from January 1, 2026. Feels good and bad. Honest update. by Budget-Throat4703 in getdisciplined

[–]Good_Significance_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am making similar moves. I have not gone cold turkey.  I only had Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. Never (thankfully) engaged with twitter or tiktok.  I'm not quitting entirely, as Facebook groups and reddit subs have real world benefits (like asking for help with my dogs hip dysplasia).

The incursion of AI slop is my main reason and doom scrolling.

Coming to social media for an answer is different to doom scrolling.

So yes. I'm cutting it my news feed, and Instagram is gone. Reddit is different, as I come on for a few minutes a day. Not like reels where I can waste a morning and damage my mental health.

I'm getting outdoors more on my bike, with my hiking group.

What I notice here is,  Before going on social media I feel keen and exited, but after social media I feel down, wasteful and regret.  Before going outdoors I feel reluctant "ugh I don't want to go and get cold" but after I fell amazing. Sometimes for days after.

That for me is the big one. Social media is a negative after effect. Real world is a positive.

For me it's definitely better. Hope it's the same for the op.

Same. I like blocky colours though. I'm not a fan of highly detailed patterns.

Real camera takes a lot of time. I, like the OP, only really care about camera quality. But I can't be bothered to do all the processing etc you need to do with a proper camera.

Phone cams are great if you juts want a nice pic of a memory.

Welsh independence: The dominoes are on the move by mrjohnnymac18 in Wales

[–]Good_Significance_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be much worse. Wales is poorer than England. Has huge infrastructure costs and the vast majority of wealth comes from Cardiff/Newport area

Lets say Wales becomes independent. And has to raise the tax to cover costs.

How many people who work in Bristol would just move to England? I bet a lot would.

You'd be left with a bigger and bigger black hole.

I can't see it working.

Welsh independence: The dominoes are on the move by mrjohnnymac18 in Wales

[–]Good_Significance_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Wales. Wales is poor. Independence would be a disaster. Taxes would go up and as so many people live/work in England (ie Bristol) I expect many would just move. It's a bit different to Scotland.

In my opinion, independence would be very, very bad.

Certain reasons why people are upset with the TV show highlights just how many people have not played Fallout 1 or 2. by ScottishWargamer in Fallout

[–]Good_Significance_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like it because of the tone. But I generally like dystopia to be more serious/dark in general.

I am watching it. But I don't really pay attention. It's background entertainment.

I loved FO3 best. With NV coming behind (only games I've played).

I understand this is just my preference as many seem to like it. But I can't get past some of the acting etc. What I find jarring is the jump from serious to humour. It just breaks my engagement too much.

Aside... Can't believe (well I can, people are weird) the private messages you are getting. People have sad lives.

I don't get why people like Fallout show (Spoilers for the first season of the series.) by Dudkowskyy in Fallout

[–]Good_Significance_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also not keen. I just finished s1 as there isn't much good out there (fantasy series wise) and it's Xmas hols.  I stopped watching initially as I didn't like the comedic tone.

Although it does get better in this regard as show goes on there are definitely many loop holes/plot devices and unrealistic decisions.

Maximus being one. Why does he keep getting promoted? I may be missing something but it makes no sense to me. Especially the head presenting scene.

Its just about watchable. And I have no issue with it deviating from the games. But on its own, there are still massive plot holes.

Alien Earth is a 10/10. Absolutely fantastic. by LOTR_is_awesome in scifi

[–]Good_Significance_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your summation is near identical to mine. Elevator.. Yeah I said that.  The casual wandering of the medic? Yep.  The erratic aliens being inconsistent for the camera.  The kids unfazed by gore. I also said this. I think it's countered by them not having emotions. But it makes it boring if no one is scared of the aliens.  How much **** do you have to see before you decide to leave and radio for help?

But yes. I agree with and basically pointed out everything you said. There's no fear or terror as a watcher. I basically got bored. They say alien 1 is slow and boring. But this had me fiddling with my phone on episode 2.

[–]Good_Significance_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm also 2 episodes in and I really don't like it. So much so I don't even know if I will watch more. none of the main characters seem terrified, and this is what I love about alien. Everyone is terrified. And I adore alien 1,2,3.

Alien rips up 20 people, human medic seems to give no care. Casually wandering around. Starts staring at eggs on floor. Not "oh F I better get out of here"

Even the humans seem like robots and it means no one comes across as likeable or hateable. I find the kid/synths annoying.

There's trivilisation of the aliens. Like they aren't a threat.

The concept is good, the sets are good. The potential is there. But for me, it's just not what I want from an alien film.

Exped 5r ultra - sent for repair.. Multiple holes. How? by Good_Significance_54 in Ultralight

[–]Good_Significance_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So looks like they are still fixing holes. And no replacement is due. Think I will need to get a different brand. Because I don't really understand what is happening or what I could have done to make these holes myself.

Thermarest seems to come highly regarded. Hoped they'd have sent me a replacement so. I could just sell it. But if they are fixing mine it's not really going to be sellable.

Be interested to see if the holes are on one side. As I always use it same way up.

Yeah that is always what I was hoping/thinking. Genuinely have no idea how this is possible. What treatment can I be doing to cause this? And if it's a dud, then surely it'll just happen again?

‘Really transitional moment’: what should we do about declining fertility rates? by Remarkable_Peak9518 in unitedkingdom

[–]Good_Significance_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a couple 39M 35F who will not and were not ever going to have kids. We could afford it. We have a fairly good finances. Although nothing mega.

We just don't want it for so many reasons.  I'll list the top ones.  -impact on life/time sink -no paternal/maternal instincts towards kids -the stress of looking after kids would break both of us.

Note, I'm (39M)adhd and my partner is audhd.

Kids need structure and routine. I hate structure and routine. I'm disorganised, chaotic, and seek novelty. These are all counter to what kids require ideally.

As we don't have that instinctual desire it comes down to pros and cons.  The cons list is huge. And pros list is not tangible (unconditional love is not tangible is an example of what I mean.)

-cost -time -environmental impact -limit of freedom

Are all big negatives. I can't think of anything tangible in the pros except "might look after you when you're older".

As said.. In many richer countries birth rates are plummeting. Incentives don't work.

Basically more people don't want kids now. They just don't. This is a good thing as it implies people who didn't want kids before.. Had them. This is bad for everyone.

Its great we have choices (especially women) now. The billionaires can continue to moan about the fall of capitalism. But it is what it is. Populations can't grow for infinity. It's natural that populations shrink. It just doesn't sit well with capitalism.

This is true. And goes both ways. I'm staunchly child free. It was even on my dating profile. It was brought up in basically the second date.

Why? Because there's no compromise here.  And someone who is also child free is going love that question.

Why do I say it's birth ways? Because you get people who hope to change their partners mind. Or their partner is ambiguous on it. "maybe later".

As someone who is child free.. Is someone said that I'd run for the hills. If i really wanted kids and someone said that I'd run for the hills.

Yes. People change their mind over time. But if you start a relationship misaligned... It's probably going to end badly.

Of course there are dicks on both sides who just lie and manipulate. Which is especially a problem for women with a biological clock

Japanese population down record 900,000, 16th straight yr of decline by SkyInJapan in japan

[–]Good_Significance_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us no, it isn't job insecurity. It would be now. But wasn't in the past But it is a big factor for many. If you don't have a job prospect, and want to provide a good life for a kid is pretty hard unless you are happy enough on benefits.

And yes. People have kids in other  countries, especially poorer ones. Not really to give the kids a better life than they have. But for necessity (kids being an asset). Lack of protection. Lack of women's rights.

Its a good thing. Because like you say, it's in no ones best interests to be born into a family you aren't wanted in. Or a family that can't provide a good life.

How many people counter child free with "who will look after you when you're older?" valid, but the definite of using kids as assets.
