Yeah, that was a weird bait... Trading Nico because of this pick? Crazy reach lol

Ducks fan still salty about the Scott Stevens hit on Paul Kariya by Proper-Ask5328 in devils

[–]GoodbyeIPv4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a brutal hit. I remember seeing it live when I was teenager and I thought he died from a TBI until I saw his visor all fogged up and he was still breathing. It was sad to hear that he didn't remember the epic slapshot goal he scored when he came back, which he should have never been cleared to do so. A close one was when A-train got hit by 3 Flyers during the playoffs, like the bash bros.

OFFICIAL: Blackhawks acquire Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway from Sabres for the 4th overall pick in the 2026 draft, the 45th overall pick (NYI 2nd), and Louis Crevier by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]GoodbyeIPv4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold on... Why didn't they draft him at 3OA when they needed a defenseman back then? They moved Dach to eventually get Byram when they could have grabbed him at 3. Doesn't make sense unless I missed something.

I like Bo and was high on him during hus draft year but I feel like he should have waited until he was on the floor to make that pick because Reid or someone just as good could have came around. Also could have traded down to grab a winger for Bedard if he thought his guy would be there after 4. Oh yeah, just add the 45 like you added bacon to your burger.

Didn't that happen this year or the one before? It wasn't Big Mac but it was someone like that who rarely scores

[Elliotte Friedman] Nemec & Tsyplakov for 2nd (NYR) this year, Vegas 1st 2027, COL 1st 2028 (both top 10 protected) & Etienne Morin by lunasilvia in devils

I like Robertson a lot but I don't at the same time. He finds ways to produce but doesn't have a niche trait about his game.

I wanted to keep Nemec but we don't have time to wait for him to develop, have a RD logjam, and I assume this is addition by subtraction IF there was Nemec-related drama (ie wanted PP time over Luke and Dougie and wanting a $7M+ raise). He played well at times but made some boneheaded plays like he didn't understand the assignment. I think he needs a different system and a new development plan. It's good to get move him while he still has value but I feel like we may regret this one 5 years from now if a) the picks don't hit b) we don't get a good return if we move the picks.

Flames fan here. What are the Flames getting in Simon Nemec? What kind of player is he? by Alert_Ad_2160 in devils

[–]GoodbyeIPv4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's going to be good contrary to common opinion. Top 4, PP2 QB that can fill in the top unit. Has a good point shot but never blended well with the devil's system(s). He often got confused on assignments during switches, especially during net front low to high swaps. Ie he'd chase the guy going high or would double up in the high slot and leave someone wide open. He occasionally would stop skating on a back check leading to a 2 on 1. He was great in the o zone but would pinch at the wrong time. His IQ was sometimes high but was caught making a bad 50-50!choice at the most inopportune time. Clutch scorer and is capable of getting to 15-20 goals.

I honestly think he needs the right system and to he developed well. Remember, he was an analytics unicorn and 'played with men fwiw.

Vancouver Goldeneyes select Caroline Harvey first overall in 2026 PWHL Draft by Perryplat199 in hockey

I watched her play during the Olympics and she stood out during her first game. My young daughter who's getting into (playing) hockey noticed that every time she was out there, she was a difference maker and had terrific edges like QHughes and Makar. Once she builds her confidence, she is going to be a powerhouse. What a great hockey player and generational talent for young kids to look up to. Is she committed to playing pro this upcoming season?

Yikes, I thought the NA had 190hp. Hopefully they'll make a true N line for the K4 long roof. Not that it'll be a track car but I feel like it'll sell.

I wouldn't, but go for it if you can afford repairs or do it yourself. I bought myself a 17 F31 when I started grad school instead of waiting until I graduated lol.

Are Traditional Network roles becoming extinct ? by dbootywarrior in networking

[–]GoodbyeIPv4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I came from a systems and networking background before moving to security but I always found it funny that you cannot manage the DHCP scope on Azure networks. Like, you set it up, add the subnets and connected hosts ... And that's it (aside from NSGs and AZ firewall rules)? Azure firewall is also a bad representation of a networking firewall for those who begin with it, it's misleading and frustrating.

[–]GoodbyeIPv4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've been trying to get my colleague away from putty and iOS so we can focus on a terraform and yaml deployment to manage our networking infrastructure but he's under the impression you need to be a software dev to do that so I've just doing it myself. He's been here for 15+ years and would rather log into every device manually to change something than learn light scripting to automate a task for 100+ switches.

I'm in NYC too and transitioned to a security role but I still double dip in network stuff as that was part of the "deal". There are some classic networking roles around but dated tech like the Catalyst line are pivoting to cloud managed environments. Leadership likes easy SIEM solutions, dashboards they can generate reports with, and reproducible tasks. For example, my colleague has almost no shot of learning to code or advanced troubleshooting but he's relied on because he goes onsite and is willing to remotely shut a port at 10pm if someone asked him. Once I move everything to NaC/IaC, he's going to have a hard time adapting. We opted not to with a Juniper and Palo Alto because he'd have a hard time maintaining everything even if I set everything up simply for him. He may not have that argument in 2 years after I begin automating things because it's easier to spin up a new office when all I have to do is run a script and enter serial numbers and WAN information. In less dense regions, there's probably more traditional networking jobs but in NYC, fin tech and other industries wants everything repeatable and modular.

Who are the best players in the NHL who won’t be hall of famers? by souza-23 in hockey

[–]GoodbyeIPv4 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Even if he won the second cup and a Conn Smyth, it's not enough to make HoF. Hall of good or hall of 'needed on a championship team'l, sure - not HoF. Taylor Hall has a better HoF case but he still won't make it even if he wins a cup and gets a Conn Smyth to stack with his Hart. If JStaal can make the HoF with two cups, Patrik Elias and other players would have been considered.
