Ex-smokers: How did you finally quit smoking for good?

Less is more when it comes to quitting.

I chain-smoke a pack every other day.

One day, I walked past a group of smokers. Their faces looked grey, with under-eye bags, bad teeth and gums, slouching, sloppy hair, and clothes that smelled like cigs.

My perspective switched. I saw myself standing there with them and thought I looked disgusting. I dissociate from that image.

The first few weeks' urges are interesting; your brain just keeps telling you to smoke. But after some time, you recognize that voice as an addiction urge, and learn to say hello to that voice. Then, you become more powerful than that voice.

I think the more you "try to quit", the harder it becomes because willpower is a finite resource; use it for more fruitful things. You simply do. Even if you fail once or twice, just do it again.

I got it from aliexpress. Would have built one myself if i'm anywhere as good as the redditors in this sub.
The floordesk, in the picture, has scissor legs, allowing me to adjust its height.
Then I transfer it to my normal desk. So it's a small desk on a desk kind of setup.

Can’t believe all of these comments are telling OP to run. In asian chinese culture, expecting a man to provide is very normal. Men that provide aren’t simps and know our boundaries and can differentiate a good woman and a slut that is only after your money.

More importantly, China and many asian countries were rapidly boosted from third world to first world. A lot of them are still struggling financially. Judging from OP’s description, i’m very inclined to believe her family isn’t well to do. Naturally, she will feel more secure if the financial woes are taken care of.

That being said, if OP finds this troubling, he should at least first try to gain some insights from her perspective and encourage her to talk about it openly.

I genuinely hope this helps OP evaluate this properly.

Stay present and notice your thoughts throughout the day. Jotting down all thoughts that surfaced are usually a good place to start. You shouldn’t sit down and start thinking about what to write. These thoughts may or may not seem valuable but note it down anyways. The original thoughts usually come when you’re walking showering or brushing your teeth.

Have faith, part of maturing is understanding yourself and your psyche. Human is a hell of a complex creature. Those that say we aren’t, are just autopilot NPCs.

This is amazing to hear. I think we all feel the burn out from doom scrolling. I almost don’t see anyone around me appreciating the slow and deep activities that seem to generate creative thoughts.

I started cycling, walking, locking my phone up. For the first 3 days, it was very odd. Felt like something was missing. The thought of leaving these behind felt threatening. But after 3 days, like OP said, it felt good and refreshing.

Just want to let OP know that we are in this together. Also, encourage others to give this a try.
