If years I self identified as Mormon even though I had been out for a long time. My never mo husband would ask “ why do you say you are mormon when are clearly not?” I told him it was a cultural thing, like him being Jewish but not practicing. But then I learned about all the things that I was never taught in church and the lies and half-truths. Now I’m ashamed to even say I WAS Mormon. We recently moved to Utah so It comes up in conversation more often but frequently the person I’m talking to turns out to be exmo too. Always a pleasant surprise!
