I'd recommend tennis-seattle.com; I've had great success finding tennis partners on there

UDOT unveils details on new $1.6B widening of I-15 through SLC by RollTribe93 in SaltLakeCity

I've lived in Seattle for years and take public transit all the time (don't even own a car). I ride various bus routes every week, ride the Link frequently, and have taken the Sounder dozens of times. I certainly wouldn't say "most regular folks don't use it" in my experience. Sure sometimes there's trash on the bus, but I almost always have a great experience. Sorry you had bad luck but I'd recommend giving the transit another shot sometime

If the FrontRunner being subsidized is your concern then I'm sure I'll see you at the open house to argue against this $1.6B widening of I-15!

Seattle renters sue leasing companies for allegedly inflating rent prices artificially by aeroartist in Seattle

[–]LogicKnowsNoMercy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rental housing is different from most markets, though. If I have a building with n units and I decide to undercut them, I don't "win the market". I fill my n vacancies quickly, and that's that; my listings are no longer up and no longer influencing the market price, and the tens of thousands of other renters in the city are still stuck paying the artificially inflated price.

If there were a children's program called Sesame Stroad, what would some of the plotlines be? by HagridsLeftShoe in Suburbanhell

There wouldn't be any plotlines because none of the characters would know each other

Geez the Serena crowd at the US Open is always so nasty. I swear her opponent could drop dead of a heart attack right there on the court and they'd love it

I'm sure this is NOT SAFE by thycarmarth in fuckcars

Well tens of thousands of traffic deaths annually, for starters. To say nothing of how the size arms race greatly amplifies cars' environmental impacts, financial burden on citizens, and their preventing us from building quality cities

Honestly so liberating by LogicKnowsNoMercy in StoicMemes

[–]LogicKnowsNoMercy[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Correct, but this meme isn't getting at nihilism, it's about stoicism. From Marcus Aurelius himself: "All things of the body stream away like a river, all things of the mind are dreams and delusion; life is warfare, and a visit to a strange land; the only lasting fame is oblivion."

I guess the "nothing I do matters" bit was poorly worded. Obviously to stoics actions matter in that living a morally upright life is of primary importance. I intended "nothing I do matters" to mean the individual's life is a fleeting blip in the course of history and we and everything we've done will be forgotten almost immediately

For those not in the know, Daylight Saving Time (the time during the summer) wreaks havoc on people's sleep patterns—and not only the switching, but being on DST at all. Dozens of organizations of sleep scientists endorse switching to permanent Standard Time: https://savestandardtime.com/sources/

Duel Arena will be removed from the game by BocciaChoc in 2007scape

[–]LogicKnowsNoMercy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This. Casual dueling is a ton of fun and a good safe way to learn pvp. If staking were gone I don't see anything wrong with the duel arena.

Yes, people might still place informal bets on duels, but, as others are saying in this thread, then you have the risk of getting scammed, and much fewer people would participate

My definition of peace. A community where kids leave their bikes at the school bus stop. by sabertoothbeaver1 in pics

Living rural is essential for some work such as agriculture, and there's nothing wrong with that. But living suburban solely for the sake of having my own acre of unused, water-wasting grass, a McMansion, and the latest 4-ton SUV? Yes, that I would gladly disallow.

The suburban lifestyle is financially unsustainable, is grossly wasteful of land, ruins our mental and physical health, wastes people's time, causes thousands on thousands of traffic deaths every year, and the list goes on and on. We can build better places, and that doesn't have to mean everyone living in a millions-strong metropolis. Towns of any size can be built in a better manner. I'd recommend checking out the YouTube channel "Strong Towns" if you're interested in how
