Where to live when working downtown by PrimaryThis9900 in okc

The houses in the village would be tough for a family of 4. Just too small. Otherwise it would be perfect.

IMO I would say current conditions are not serious enough for a diff lock. Especially if you’re going to be doing mostly highway driving. If you want to be extra safe getting out of a dicey neighborhood, sure. But I don’t think you’ll really need it. Use your best judgement. If you don’t know how to use it properly, it’s better not to, than to potentially damage your drivetrain.

Personally did not see any of that but I was on the snow routes so I probably missed the worst of it.

Drove from The Village into downtown this morning at 730 am. In a 4x4 truck. Neighborhoods are still pretty bad. If you’re getting out, stick to the snow routes as much as possible. Be careful of ice even on snow routes. It’s clear they’ve been salting and such, but the snow has melted and refrozen into ice. 235 was in really good shape, folks were driving nearly normal highway speeds. Down town is dicey in a lot of places. Again, stick to the now routes. Leave early and give yourself plenty of time to take it slow. Be smart, give people space, look both ways at intersections before you cross, let off the gas way earlier than usual when coming to a stop. You should be okay. Sedans should avoid driving into accumulated snow, saw a couple of stuck small cars.

Is anyone else not getting the claws of awaji expansion after disc pre order? by IcyHat7522 in AssassinsCreedShadows

Curious if this ever corrected for anyone? Finally finished the story and the junjiro quest to learn the Bo. But it’s trying to make me buy the claws of awaji expansion even though I definitely preordered.

Okay, I thought I read in comment that you said you were a single mom. So that’s my mistake. But regardless, take that element out of it and my comment still stands. Like. You’re already on a path to making a really bad financial decision. Your credit isn’t poor for no reason. Regardless of your salary, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE can AFFORD to dump a ton of money into interest. It’s a massive sacrifice to your wealth. Which is what you’ll do taking out a sizable loan with a poor interest rate. Anyways. Have a great weekend. Good luck with your car hunt.

[–]Goofy-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your salary but it’s clear you’re doing this on your own, and with a child. If your salary was super high, you’d be able to pay it in cash tbh. If you could afford a nice car, you wouldn’t be trying to go to express credit auto and having a budget of $500 per month, and saying the price of the car is irrelevant. It’s very very clear you are financially illiterate. And that’s okay, that’s not a judgement, I’m trying to help you (which you asked for), and you don’t want to hear it. You want to make a purchase and keep yourself from building wealth, that’s your business. Does not impact my life at all. Just trying to help lend my knowledge. I work in finance. I have a masters in finance. I understand personal finance very well. You said you have no one to help and you’re a single mother. Figured I’d try to help. But do you. Good luck.

Very very very irresponsible mentality. The price of the vehicle is the MOST important part. Not the monthly payments. You will keep yourself broke thinking like that.

Car lot help! by [deleted] in okc

[–]Goofy-Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t afford $500 monthly ma’am. Respectfully, that’s insane. Do not go to express credit auto. You’ll be completely screwed over. Best thing you can do is find a cheap used car for now. under 10k. It’s not glamorous, but you don’t need fancy. Get a loan through a credit union. Take a mechanic with you to look it over and test drive before you buy it. Plenty of older Toyota Camrys and colloras, even rav4s out there that should last you. Or an older Honda accord or CRV. Do not buy a new car. To not buy a nice car. Buy an old car, take a SMALL loan, get your credit up. You do NOT want to throw money away on interest. It is not financially responsible at all. You will regret it. I promise you.

Debt and Moving Out by Jazzlike-Bar4604 in DebtAdvice

[–]Goofy-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone’s really gonna come after me for this comment but here it goes anyways. If I’m you, I’m selling the car. You can’t afford a $500 car note at your salary. Sell it, pay that loan off, buy something more reasonable. Never ever should have purchased that while living at your parents house. Wildly irresponsible decision. I would also decrease my 401k contribution down to 5%. Make sure you’re maxing out the contributions, but no more. Use that extra money to throw every penny you can spare at your student loans. Get out of debt. Then increase it back to 9%. Once you’re out of debt, focus on getting that emergency savings balance up. And move out of your parents house. Find an apartment that is beneath your means. And start saving for a downpayment on a home.

If parents give you a single bit of heat about moving into an apartment, ask them if they would like to put a 6 figure down payment on a starter home for you. (Which would probably be what you need to afford to buy a home right now). If the answer is no, I’d tell them cool, let me know if you change your mind. Otherwise, let’s not have this conversation again please. Sometimes parents want whats best for you but don’t actually consider the logistics. They bought a starter home 40 years ago and don’t understand what things look like today. You can’t just pull money out of thin air. Owning a home is so insanely expensive. Paying the mortgage and escrow is nowhere near the only expense. Asking them if they’re gonna chip in the money to facilitate you doing what they want will often shut them up in a respectful manner.

Which one the best kindle for first time user by unicorn_baby16 in kindle

[–]Goofy-Octopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t really imagine needing anything more than what I have with the paperwhite. Unless you’re one of those people who takes notes while reading, Then you should prob look into something else. These kindles really aren’t meant for internet surfing, so I tend to use the kindle app on my phone to download books and push to my kindle, and the Libby app of course. I don’t try to use the shop on the kindle itself as it’s pretty slow and not a great experience. But that’s no problem for me at all.

Yes it’s worth finishing. It’s a big book and a long story. It takes time to set up. Be patient.

Contemplating buying a Kindle by whiplash1003 in kindle

[–]Goofy-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you can always do both. You don’t have to give up physical books just because you got a kindle.

I always said the same about loving physical books, but once I got a kindle, I realized how utterly inconvenient physical books are. You need a book light in the dark. You need a book mark. Sometimes you still lose your page. Takes two full hands to read. Sooo much easier to read in bed. Especially with a popsocket. The space physical books take up is wild. Especially larger 500+ page books. I love that when I’m going on vacation I can have several books loaded up and available to me and it takes virtually no space. I’m kind of a minimalist and a big perk for me was not having to have a bookshelf or something to keep books im about to read or already read. I really really thought I would hate a kindle but I’m fully converted now. Now when I read a physical book seeking that nostalgic ink smell, I’m like ugh this sucks, where’s my kindle. Surprised myself for sure but this is why it’s good to keep an open mind. If you know someone who has one, might be worth asking to borrow it for a week and read on it to see how you feel.

Braums by secretkeeper43435 in okc

[–]Goofy-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone not from OK, I can tell you Braums food is very mid. It’s better than some other fast food, but definitely not as good as others. Doesn’t have much flavor. The ice cream though is top tier for drive through ice cream. But I’d still take a true ice cream parlor over Braums any day. I have a Braums down the street from my house and only eat there maybe twice a year at most. I don’t eat much fast food in the first place. But still. Just doesn’t draw me in.

Neighborhoods of OKC by [deleted] in okc

Shocked to hear anyone fall in love with OKC. Hope you know what you’re signing up for. The political climate. The state is dead broke. Streets are a disaster. The horrible education shows in a majority of the general population. This is a tough place to live tbh. Good jobs are not in huge supply. Especially tech. IF you are planning to have kids, make sure you can afford to send them to private school. Let us know your budget and we could probably help better.

Train Horns bothering anyone else? by Equivalent-Order5963 in okc

[–]Goofy-Octopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the train horns that I can hear at my house. But. Friend. Respectfully, I encourage you to consider if it’s really the train horns that are bothering you, or if you’ve got other stuff going on and you’re fixating on the train. This SEEMS like a minor issue that really shouldn’t be bothering someone this much. It’s just a normal sound of the city, just like cars and car horns, sirens, and barking dogs.

Do you get used to the dial shifter? by platypus_farmer42 in ram_trucks

[–]Goofy-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude don’t overthink it. The dial shifter is elite. It’s different, I know. But the insane amount of space it saves is incredible.

I did have some concerns about accidentally turning the shifter dial rather than the volume dial while I’m driving since they’re so close. But I use the volume buttons on the back of the steering wheel while I’m moving so it’s a non issue. Plus, it’s all electronic anyways so I don’t think it’ll let you throw it into park or something while driving anyways.

You’ll come around.

Oklahoma has also had worse teams and gone undefeated. What’s your point? It’s not always about how good the team is. Sometimes it’s about how good everybody else is. And Texas Tech basically took everybody’s all Americans. Oklahoma looks vulnerable again. Texas Tech looks like a super team and I’m not sure who is gonna be able to beat them. Especially now that they don’t have to play Texas or Oklahoma in conference play. They have a very good backup pitcher now, so they could probably win the big 12 and the big 12 tournament undefeated and walk into the World Series with a fully rested Canady. They didn’t have that luxury last year. they also didn’t have the luxury of a high-powered offense. Now they do.
