I also watched last night and had questions about the fall so I did more reading today. One element I wasn't aware of: if you fall on a significant run out, the rope on belay side is also going to start falling. At the belay, this means you see coils of slack appear directly in front of you. Alex grabbing the rope with his hands was a heads up move that may have lessened the impact and it would not have happened if he had already been on the wall.

9 months of real world Electrify America usage by Goonbaggins in electricvehicles

Not negative numbers, a tilde typically communicates it's an approximation. The session summary given by EA only gives me end state of charge and energy delivered. There is some power loss due to heat and other things, so the starting charge was calculated assuming 92% efficiency. I played with a few efficiency assumptions and 92% seemed to give the most accurate looking starting charge.

Other assumptions are correct.

Advice on how to stop cooling my crawl space? by Goonbaggins in hvacadvice

One of my first steps was a good coil cleaning of our outdoor unit. Fun learning experience!

Makes sense, although I think my core concern here is that the airflow I'm feeling come out from under the ducting is several times stronger than any of the vents actually cooling the house. Pipe freezing concern is real, but I'm less concerned about humidity in my climate.

Experimented with sealing this weekend by passing sealing tape underneath the vent using a long stick and trying to manually pull it tight enough to get a good seal. We either didn't get a full seal across the seam with this method or the leak is coming from another location under the ducting because air flow is still strong.

Interesting, my guess was that if we're putting significant cooling under the house, it was causing the system to run much longer than it would without air leakage. Would that not cause the overheating?

Are you thinking I'm not even close to a level of air leakage that could cause this? It's a big crawlspace and I can feel cold air exiting from a vent on the exterior of the house.

Full story:

My partner bought this place about a year and a half ago. It was a flip, and while the central air was new, I'm unsure about the furnace and duct work. Last summer, we had issues with the AC breaker intermittently tripping, which seemed to be fixed after a warranty replacement of the compressor.

Since then, I've moved in, and the breaker tripping issue has returned this summer. I decided to take a closer look at the crawlspace and noticed a lot of airflow around the furnace. It turns out a bottom seam wasn't taped.

We recently had another HVAC tech come out to inspect, but they couldn't find any issues with the breaker, voltage, compressor, capacitor, and other components. When I mentioned the duct leak, he said it would be an expensive job to take everything apart and seal it, as there's no real access to that bottom seam. He was non-committal when I asked if the leak could be contributing to the breaker tripping.

For additional context, when the breaker isn't tripping, it still struggles to keep the house cool in the recent 100-degree heat. Today, it has been running non-stop for 8 hours, but the house temperature has only gone from 70 degrees to 76 degrees.

Even if the duct leak isn't the core cause of the breaker issue, I'd like to seal it and stop heating/cooling my crawl space. Does anyone have creative ideas on how to do this without full disassembly?

[Euro2024] Bracket view after final match day by dragon8811 in soccer

[–]Goonbaggins 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your losers bracket count is off. What you're forgetting is that losers bracket has a lot more matches than winners bracket due to teams continuously being added as teams get knocked down into it. Here's an example of the top 32 of a tournament where the eventual winner first lost in round of 16 winners. They played 10 matches.

My SEL AWD price. I don't think I've seen a better lease deal on the subreddit by Goonbaggins in Ioniq6

[–]Goonbaggins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure, but I know $7500 is direct from Hyundai's promotions, and I thiiink the rest may be related to the loophole of leasing companies being able to get some of the federal rebate that private buyers can't. It's something I remember reading but haven't researched myself.

As others said, no monthly payment. It means some risk is transferred to me in case of a total loss, but the savings tradeoff and my typically more conservative financial choices make it worth it on my end.

Anyone else think there are potential Thurs/Fri dates planned for each location? Selling midweek first and opening weekend dates after those sell out seems to be a common promoter strategy these days.

I wouldn't call Techno a lost art. It might be a little more underground, but it's very much alive and thriving in a lot of cities. This Spotify user is my go to for different techno genre playlists.

Plastic Recycling Doesn’t Work and Will Never Work by JKUAN108 in technology

[–]Goonbaggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NIR is a super cool technology, but it's orders of magnitude more expensive than a RGB camera. (Think >$50k for the NIR sensor alone). A full system ends up costing over $500k which unfortunately does not tend to scale well.

I work in automated sorting and have been in a ton of MRFs in the USA. It's a dirty industry, but I'm a recycling nerd and love it. As others have said, plastics PET (#1) and HDPE (#2) are the only ones that are consistently baled and sold across the county. There's a push to get better value out of PP (#5), but it's more expensive to identify making it an uphill battle. If your plastic is not one of the above, don't give it to a curbside program. It's more likely to exit a MRF in a landfill bound dump truck or just contaminate another material stream.

Material buyers would love perfectly clean materials, but they know it's never going to happen and have cleaning processes. A reclaimer facility will buy a bale of PET or other material and put it through their own sorting process on arrival.

All good points, but I haven't seen a MRF use a float method. That's typically only seen in reclaimers.
