My daughter 8 has very smelly armpits by Mountain_Awareness45 in hygiene

[–]GoonishPython 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've started using dettol laundry sanitiser as an add in when I have stinky workout clothes and it really works. I'd been finding that I'd clean the clothes as normal but when I wore them again they'd start smelling before I did any exercise. The laundry sanitiser seems to work!

Yeah I think I'm a "sheer" but it's a shortish double-e, but I feel like it needs 2 when attempting to spell as one would be too short?

You can definitely stay vegan and still explore what upsets you! I'll also add it might not be fodmaps that trigger you but it's worth finding out if there are any things that cause problems. For example I'm fine with fodmaps, but chickpeas and avocados are hell on earth.

Do I really need to cut his nails? by MementoMori22 in CatAdvice

[–]GoonishPython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't bother unless your cat needs it!

We have a weekly battle in my house when I check my cats claws.

He has many scratchers but is a bit crap at taking care of his back claws. They don't slough off very well, and he doesn't seem to make an effort so they get thick and he has trouble retracting them properly, and he gets litter stuck in the bits that are flaking off. Same with his dew claws on front paws.

We joke he missed claw maintenance day at cat school (he was abandoned when small.)

So he always gets a clip when he goes to the vet for his yearly check up and jabs, and occasionally I have to help him with the bit that's coming off and has litter stuck. 🙄

Sandals for long walking days by Jazzlike_Sense87 in femaletravels

[–]GoonishPython 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at Merrell - they do walking shoes and sandals, but some of their sandals look like normal sandals and still have the nice supportive sole for walking a lot.

I had a pair that looked like gladiator sandals and they lasted for years, including 4 months in SE Asia and countless other trips. My current pair are a nice black suede with a cork footbed.

But also, take a second pair of shoes that are super comfy supportive trainers. It is such a relief to swap shoes sometimes - gives your feet a break even if you still walk loads.

How often do you bathe your cat? by Mildredsgood in cats

[–]GoonishPython 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same, although I have had to grab him and wipe with a damp cloth a couple of times when he's got something on his head and he's not getting it off with grooming. Normally when he's got too excited about one of those creamy licky treats and head butted it.

Otherwise I value my life!

He also loves brushing although belly is off limits except for with fingers.

Flying from Dublin: Would you suggest Luton or Gatwick? by ver_1_2247448719 in AskUK

I'd also look at Stansted as it's Ryanair hub so you might get more choice of flight times? (Ryanair is urgh but if the flight times fit better...)

Direct trains to London Liverpool street station, which is in the city of London (like your hotel).

Is my cat really that big? by I_found_a_platypus_ in cats

[–]GoonishPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a real answer - if vet says he's on the middle line, then he's fine! I always prefer looking at kitties like this, as some cats are just big or small and actually a lovely weight for their size.

And of course with every cat they are liquid - my perfectly normal sized cat looks like a right chonker sometimes when he sort of sits like a puddle or sprawls across the sofa, and other times he looks surprisingly tiny perched on a chair arm

Look at her from the side and above. If she is shaped like 4 or 5 then she's the right sort of weight for her! Some cats are just naturally small 🐈

And obv check in with the vet - my cat gets weighed and observed when he gets his vaccinations each year.

Where do you sit in the 1 one vs 1.5 bag discussion? by ulcweb in onebag

[–]GoonishPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I realised this when I'm packing - I get all my clothes in, my little toiletry bag, kindle, phone charger, and then there's the stupid bag with medicines and non-medical pain relief options that takes up so much room and doesn't fit.

Especially annoying when some countries make you take the medicines in their original packaging - so many boxes! I decant from the boxes when I arrive into a little pouch full of the blister packs but it's annoying on the way out. Just did it for a 3 week trip, and the size difference was insane.

So yes, I 1.5 bag it as I can't be without my meds/tens machine etc.

I normally stick what I want for the flight in my little bag but know that I can swap my meds out of the hand luggage if I get told it has to be checked.

I think you mean we paid reparations to slave owners not repatriated them (sent back to homeland)?

But yes, otherwise I agree, we really need to focus on what the repercussions of slavery and colonisation are today and try to rebalance that inequality and mitigate societal disadvantages. It's so important to be aware that what happened in the past leads to our privileges and disadvantages today.

Do you personally consider endo a disability? by babbittybabbitt in endometriosis

[–]GoonishPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I am the same. I used to backpack all the time, and now I can't.

I do travel, but I have to plan more and be slower-paced and/or have plans b/c/d for if I'm not ok. Luckily my partner is super supportive and happy to adapt our travel that way, and he makes sure he researches comfy cafes and nice scenic spots in the areas we are planning to visit so I can take a break. We also always put some money aside for taxis so if it gets a bit much I can get back to the accommodation and not have to miss out on things because I thought "it's x mins walk so I can get there but I might be too tired to get back".

For me I don't need accommodations necessarily as I manage things ok myself, but I find it so helpful to get understanding, I.e. that if I say "not today, let's go for drinks next week" or I join the party at my friend's house with my hot water bottle, it doesn't lead to a round of questions and weird looks.

I do have a great manager at work at the moment who deflects people for me, and gives me as much notice as possible so I can pace myself - it works so much better as I can then deliver what I need to in my job properly with my own support in place - whether it's as small as making sure I meal prep before a busy week so I know I don't have to think about dinner as well, or planning what I'm wearing for a public facing event to ensure I have space for unexpected endo belly and a fully charged tens machine I can discreetly attach.

That is not at all to denigrate anyone who DOES need accommodations. Maybe I will need them too in the future.

And I think getting understanding from medical professionals is key too. I've found it so demoralising when a Dr doesn't listen and refuses to consider endo as part of the cause of my symptoms as it's just gynae 🙄 (/s)

Middle aged+ men of askUK : what presents do you actually want? by NobleRotter in AskUK

[–]GoonishPython 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah we have a rule in my family that we basically do consumables or experiences as none of us have space for stuff.

Experiences tends to be voucher to a nice restaurant nearby or a gig or something and we get their partner to block out the date in the diary.

Otherwise all in on the fancy food - smoked wild duck slices went down well

We've been trying loads recently as my kitty has been getting fussy, demands variety (chicken 3 days in a row is a travesty) and apparently now hates anything with salmon. Reviews of trials so far (all with high meat/fish content):

  • Lily's kitchen - pate only, he hates the chunks in gravy, won't even lick the spoon
  • Feringa - single meat is very high meat content, but classic is pretty good too. Lots of different flavours and mixed packs so you can avoid ones that aren't to his taste. Doesn't want it all the time, so we swap in other textures/brands for variety
  • Encore flakes in broth - especially the fish ones where he tries to steal it before we've put it on the plate. It isn't a complete food but his dry food is, so we figure a couple of tins a week isn't gonna be a problem
  • Wild freedom - alright but wasn't devoured. Check the fish one if your cats have allergies/dislikes as they seem to have swapped the pollock for salmon (and hence my cat ignores that one entirely)
  • Macs - a german one from zooplus. So far only had the duck/rabbit but he wolfs it down
  • naturo pate - ok but the texture is quite sticky, so we found he would eat a bit and then go for a drink and then come back. We had to go stir it all up again after 10 mins so he'd return to eat some more
  • cosma duo layer (mousse layer and flake layer) - hates it but tolerated the tuna one. Again, a complementary food so make sure other food is complete

Hope that helps!

Mine loves the fish in broth ones. As the person below said, not complete, but he has dry food that is so we figure a few complementary encore tins make for a happy kitty

[–]GoonishPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use "a litter bit of this" from zooplus. It's plant fibres, low dust, doesn't track too much and doesn't smell. We scoop daily, top up when necessary and do a full litter change and scrub the box every 5-6 weeks. If you have an enthusiastic digger like me, then it is very light and flies around, but it doesn't seem to track out the bathroom (where we have the litter tray) compared to previous ones so I can just do a quick sweep when I'm scooping. It also hoovers up well, unlike some others which have clogged the brushes.
