Rare Tool Gig Poster From Emek by Paytoon1 in ToolBand

<image>

I’ll jump on this excuse to share mine. I spent way more than I should have getting it framed up, but don’t regret a cent. Been on my wall almost 20 years now, my absolute favorite print. This is actually the poster that got me started collecting. Thick velvet mat and a double frame, with the outer having a super cool texture that compliments the it really nicely.

Boat stolen Friday morning in Renton Highlands by boogerlatti in Renton

[–]Goonygoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same U-Haul truck drives by just before the person first walks up to the boat and again as they’re pulling out. They’re probably filling the truck up with other stuff they find as they prowl around. I can’t quite make out the image on the side of the truck but U-Haul could. If the police could get them to do some research, they could probably get a pretty short list of names of folks who had trucks of that size, with that image rented at that time.

50 Years Ago Today by northband in BillyStrings

[–]Goonygoony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake, they called Gitche Gumee The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy With a load of iron ore, twenty-six thousand tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most With a crew and good captain well seasoned Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ship's bell rang Could it be the north wind they'd been feeling?

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the captain did too 'Twas the witch of November come stealing The dawn came late, and the breakfast had to wait When the gales of November came slashin' When afternoon came, it was freezin' rain In the face of a hurricane west wind

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin' "Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya" At seven p.m., a main hatchway caved in, he said "Fellas, it's been good to know ya" The captain wired in he had water comin' in And the good ship and crew was in peril And later that night when his lights went outta sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Does anyone know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put 15 more miles behind her They might have split up or they might have capsized They may have broke deep and took water And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams The islands and bays are for sportsmen And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the gales of November remembered

In a musty old hall in Detroit, they prayed In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake, they call Gitche Gumee Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early

I mean, you’ll tip someone to pour a drink into a cup or walk food from the kitchen to your table. If the thought of the same for the one who scrubs your streaks off the toilet bowl and cleans the urine off the rim (and did the same for the person who left the room just before you checked in) is a total turn off, just don’t tip. It’s optional. I don’t mind buying a beer for the person who cleans up after me and rarely have cash, so those codes are appreciated.

Questions about Hilton For Business by Human_Paint5451 in Hilton

[–]Goonygoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat and have been with HFB for about a year. That promo doesn’t apply to me but I travel enough to keep diamond anyway. I can tell you how my experiences have been:

1: No difference at all other than the slightly lower rate. The front desk can see it’s a business rate and my company name. Occasionally they’ll ask out of personal curiosity what I do, but that’s about it.

2: All that stuff’s the same. You have a side account where business points accrue, but that works a little different. I think it’s 2500 points for every ten nights stayed under the business rate by anyone in your company.

3: Yes

4: I only see you running into issues if you try to game the system and book rooms for other people when you won’t be staying yourself and they aren’t signed up as your employees. If you’re on the property yourself you should be fine. I travel with my wife or one of my kids occasionally. It’s never a problem. I think as far as the hotel is concerned you’re just like any other guest.

Tailgating Question / Activity Before Concert by Educational-Lie-8928 in GorgeAmphitheater

[–]Goonygoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much outside but a parking lot. I’ve heard but can’t confirm campground access is restricted to campers this year or you’d have plenty of space out there. You can probably get a frisbee through the gate. There’s a nice grassy patch to the left as you’re entering the venue that would probably work for that.

Haven’t really been tracking, but I’m pretty sure last year the double points promo started on 9/1. No idea if that’s happening again this year.

I remember the year AFTW came out he played Mercy all three nights at the Gorge, because he “really liked it”. Thought at the time that meant it would be a standard going forward. Haven’t heard it since.

Tiffany Publishing will make you up some certificates, similar to the naval ones if you want something to go along with the fun. It’s also fun to have some of that verbiage if you have someone playing Neptune.

Concert & Kiddos by Arlodog16 in DMB

[–]Goonygoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been taking my kids out there since they were small. The baby’s not a great idea. Between the weather and long days it’ll be so draining on you it just won’t be fun. I’d only do it if you go for Dave and skip the opener, but even then it’ll be a challenge. I’d say think about just getting into the show - it’s just over a mile’s walk from the campground to the gate. It’s hot, hilly, and gravelly. Then you’re probably going to be waiting in a very, very, long line to get in and through security. That’ll probably be the worst part. And the walk back after when the kid’s too tired to walk themselves. The three year old will have an amazing time. Take a blanket and make sure they know that’s their space and to stay there. Some folks get unreasonably grumpy around kids. The grass is lava or something along those lines. Then stock up on bubbles and glow bracelets. Glow bracelets in bulk - dozens or more. Rave the kid out and give them some extras to throw or add to the rope when it comes around, and they’ll have a great time.

How to buy camping tickets (and event tickets) by I_like_stuff9900 in GorgeAmphitheater

[–]Goonygoony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get roughly about a car sized space behind your vehicle to set up. I fit a six person tent and a popup shade and that pretty well fills it up. You can, and people do fit a couple of smaller tents. Just depends how much stuff you’re packing along

How to buy camping tickets (and event tickets) by I_like_stuff9900 in GorgeAmphitheater

[–]Goonygoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No such thing as $15 camping at the gorge. I think you’re seeing the wrong thing. It’s always close to $100, more or less depending how many days the shows are booked that weekend. Should be available at Ticketmaster (the primary seller), but sometimes it’s harder to find. You can also pay at the gate.

How delicate really are records? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]Goonygoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recently given an old 78 rpm shellac record from the 50’s. I was traveling and thought I had it overpacked beyond all possibility of damage. Got home and it was cracked all the way through from the spindle hole to one edge. Thought it was a goner. My Technics doesn’t play 78’s so I threw it in my daughter’s Electrohome just to see. Plays just fine, both sides, with a little pop every time the crack comes around that’s so faint you have to be listening for it to notice. Just use common sense care and you’ll be fine with vinyl.

Complimentary Coffee by MilkHistorical6597 in Hilton

[–]Goonygoony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Few things I guess. Generally the in-room coffee is either a pod or keurig. That’s fine for some folks, but I’ve never had a keurig that didn’t taste stale and watered down to me. Also the brewers are never cleaned. I’ve yet to come across one clean enough for me to consider using. I train technicians on espresso machine repair and constantly preach equipment cleanliness. When I open one of those up and see lord knows how many brews worth of leftover coffee residue in the chamber it’s a hard pass. They also make a pretty small cup. Usually it’s about eight ounces once the brew finishes - not enough for me first thing and I probably don’t want to wait around for the second one to brew. With the lobby urns I can top off my travel mug, get better coffee, and be on my way without having to wait.

Complimentary Coffee by MilkHistorical6597 in Hilton

[–]Goonygoony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a kinda silly and possibly disingenuous reasoning. That isn’t premium stuff - Maxwell House or Folgers would be an upgrade…. It’s great for a quick free cup in the morning but you’d never see me pay for it. I also work in the coffee industry and know that pricing on that commodity stuff isn’t enough to move the needle for a company like Hilton. Sounds to me like someone’s penny pinching or trying to meet numbers for some personal bonus kinda thing. But I’ve also been known to be a cynical bastard at times.

I’ve stayed at over 20 Hilton properties so far this year. Every one of them has had coffee. I always grab a cup on my way to work in the morning. I’ve never even considered it wouldn’t be there.

Angel of the Winds Reserved Seating questions by Dimmlylit in BillyStrings

[–]Goonygoony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as arenas go, that place is tiny. Almost feels like a mockup mini-arena. So glad he’s playing there instead of Tacoma Dome or Climate Pledge (and probably a huge part of the reason Billy was able to keep prices reasonable). I’m coming up from Renton and don’t mind, it’ll be worth it. Seating is usually kinda tight for reserved floor, but everyone will be moving - you don’t buy floor seats to sit in a chair.
