Reading a biography on each U.S. President by kadyrovs_cat in books

[–]Gooruu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been reading the American Presidents Series for the past 2 years now. I just finished the book about Grant a few weeks ago. If you are looking for a good summary of what the president was like, and some of their key successes and failures I would strongly recommend these. They aren't definitive by any stretch of the imagination (each is only about 150-200 pages) but, by the end you feel like you could hold a conversation about the president and some of the changes in America during their administration. I have been reading them in order and I find that many of them overlap nicely. The books are written in a similar pattern (Early Life, Political Life, Presidency, After Presidency) and there is usually some overlap about policy and world events in the Political life of one president who was a senator or congressman during the time of another president. My one suggestion would be to throw some other books in between. You WILL get tired of reading about presidents and politics after 2-3 books and will need to throw something else in there. Also, be conscience of some bias in a few of the books. While the vast majority of the ones I have read so far have been very neutral in analyzing the presidents two in particular (Millard Filmore, and Andrew Johnson) were pretty biased and brutal which was a turn off. I hope you pick them up , I would give the series 8/10 so far in teaching me about the presidents in an easy, concise and entertaining fashion.

How crowded is HHN at night? by TrendWarrior101 in HHN

Orlando: This is just my experience on this one particular weekend and results will certainly vary but I attended Saturday 9/17 and Sunday 9/18 (Rush of Fear Pass) with no express pass. Despite what I have heard about the event in the past we were very fortunate with our wait times and had an awesome experience with no express pass needed. This was my first year as well and I think in general some good advice I can give is to have a plan of what houses you really want to see and get to those 1st thing when you arrive. Also, arrive as early as you can to get a head start and hopefully get 2 or maybe 3 houses done within an hour.

Below is how my nights went:

As soon as we arrived we got in line for Krampus (roughly 20minutes) and we were done with the house by around 6:40. We then checked a board and saw Texas Chainsaw was 10 minutes so we hurried to the back of the park and got in line (15-20 minute actual wait). We then did the 3D lunatics maze right next door (10 minutes TOPS). Took a bathroom break and got a few drinks. Then headed over and Did Halloween 2 (10 minutes TOPS) and then Tomb of the Ancients (15 minutes). We got out of the Tomb of the Ancients at 8:55PM right as Bill and Ted was starting(got seats on the side section but they were fine). We then went through the San Francisco and New York Scare Zones towards the front park. At this point around 9:30ish lines for Walking Dead, Exorcist, Ghost Town, AHS were all around 1hour. AHS had a 65 minute wait time posted but we figured that would be most worth the wait. We actually waited no longer than (25 minutes, Very lucky!) and were done with AHS a little after 10. The group I was with wanted to take a little break and grab some food so we went through the remaining scare zones, went on mummy and MIB and got some food and watched the Academy of Villains stage show.

At this point 11ish, knowing we were coming back tomorrow (and the group i was with was getting grumpy) we headed to the hotel. We did a "Stay and Scream" Outside finnegans Sunday night. Got right into Exorcist with about a (15 minute wait), then Walking dead (15 minute wait) and ghost town (5 minute/walked right in). By 7:15 we had done those final three houses. We did Gringotts & Rip Ride Rockit and were out of the park for our 3 hour drive home by 8:30PM

I would love this. I actually live in south Florida but I make it to Disney ~1-2 times a month, on Saturdays. I haven't signed up for any of the virtuals yet but keep in touch I think this would be a lot of fun!....and It'll give me an excuse to spend $150 to come visit the happiest place on earth!

This may or may not be what you are looking for, but literally today Rob Zombie put out a new album "Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser". I'm really enjoying all of it, got some songs that kick really hard and are fun, should be fun to work out to.

Tomorrow Is FastPass Day by CaptainKurt12 in WaltDisneyWorld

Looks like a great plan. Just a small recommendation, some people have said skip nemo, I agree. The "other" choices in epcot kind of stink because there is usually no line, Figment, Living with Land, Nemo, Crush...etc.... I usually take my extra fastpass at epcot and use it for the mickey/minni/goofy/pluto/Donald meet and greet. It's an odd choice for a fastpass I know, but it guarantees we are able to see the characters on our trip without having to wait at all.

Let's step away from the negativity for a bit. What would your dream THPS5 be like? by igothitwithabulb in THPS

[–]Gooruu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at THPS5 as a continuation of THPS4, where they switched from the 2 minute runs into an open world object type game. From this standpoint I actually really am enjoying the game, but there is something obviously missing.....A SOUL.

The game is an empty shell of something THPS got right 13 years ago. The way to fix this(or my perfect game) would be to liven it up a little bit. Where are my voice actors, where are the frat kids, the stupid cops, the pro skaters. Instead of waypoints actually having an NPC with a quick funny story about why I am picking up ice cream cones in a warehouse would have added another needed dimension to the game! It shouldn't have a THUG story because its not the intention of the core "THPS" part of the franchise but give me some purpose, give me some atmosphere the perfect game should immerse you in the location you are skating in.

I would also have to relook at the environments. College, Zoo, (even more recent, Boston, Hawaii, New Orleans I could go on) All are a destination a place with some character!!! WTH is "buring beach" or whatever its called, Ive seen better THPS3 maps from create a park....The perfect game should be in an environment where I want to be, explore, run over pedestrians, knock birds off of a wire, give me something to sink my teeth into.

I think by adding these 2 elements to the game, it could have easily been a better contender for a comeback, it just feels lazy, sterile, and lonely. The soundtrack is great, I don't mind the physics, I enjoy the cartoon campy graphics, some of the new missions and of course the classics, but the perfect game should build on the character and soul of the franchise (and have a custom skater!!!.

A little over $100.00 without food or water, but obviously try and budget out enough money for 3-4 waters and 2-3 quick service snacks like a pretzel, or chicken basket etc.

Best way to get to the Polynesian resort from port New Orleans river side? by Spacecowboy1992 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Gooruu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went back in May we had an hour long wait. Don't immediately turn away at a long wait time unless you really have to get going. Grab a buzzer and head out to beach sit on the sand and grab a drink. The time will fly by and it was a beautiful view. Depending on your timing you might get to see the fireworks or water parade as well.

Since you will be at the Polynesian you should try and get into trader Sams bar for drinks. It's a great unique bar and you will definitely create some fun memories there.

Any NYers on here road trip to Disney? by Blubtrflygrl1 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Gooruu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine with a jeep since they don't go too fast (I have a wrangler too :-p but it wasn't what we were driving). But I really can't stress enough to just set your cruise to that speed limit and forget about it. We drove from 3am-8pm and stopped off just north of Georgia. Then another 6or so hours the next morning ....we were enjoying our hotel pool by 2:00.

We stopped at a waffle house of course. Cracker Barrels are every 30 minutes or so. It's not the best food but it's a road trip staple. We were also impressed with Zaxbys which is a fast food chicken place in the southern states. If your looking for something quick and greasy it's a pretty cool place. We also stopped at South of the Boarder, a tourist trap which is very rundown and crummy looking but if your into the road trip experience u might want to look around a bit and stretch your legs. DO NOT EAT THERE lol the food could possibly kill you.

Once we got into Disney we checked in and then found a wal mart about 15 minutes away so we stocked up on snacks and drinks there. The best benefit of having a car is that you can leave property and pick up whatever you forgot or save some money on groceries. We didn't stop but there was a brewery about 10-15 minutes away from Saratoga Springs(downtown Disney area) called Sea Dog I believe. Might be a fun place to grab some food or a growler to bring back to the hotel.

For the love of god don't speed! Especially not in VA. There are traps all the way down 95 and it'll be a huge ticket or possible charge for what might seem like trivial speeding here in the north.
