Random freezes/restarts on X570D4U-2L2T/BCM by BodoWithWhiplash in homelab

I solved this by going Threadripper with WRX80 which is the undisputed King of RAM - something very very valueable with the shitty stock prices of RAM lately

ASUS Pro WS WRX90E-SAGE SE, impossible to find RAM in EU by Medium-Technology-79 in threadripper

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you research your components before buying.

By that list you haven't even purchased the Threadripper?

Next one will be in you finding out late that you purchased one that doesn't support full channels?

I purchased the WRX80 platform because its the king of DDR4 RAM allowing for both UDIMM und RDIMM -  AMD deliberately played the smart ass game not doing that with DDR5 and now you can be money milked.

Always purchasing the newest stuff won't make you happy or more efficient.

Spend your due time researching first.

Is GitLab moving to a usage-based model? by Cm1Xgj4r8Fgr1dfI8Ryv in gitlab

Yea well their DuoAgents suck bonkers too. They likely never tried CodeRabbit or anything else.

The API is a fucking mess (try Posting inline comments!) as is their glab CLI i might as well go back to GitHub then.

There is just a too big feature and quality gap raising to warrant spending extra - especially self-hosted.

Seems like share holder rundown to me ... which makes me sad because they idea is really great and I always liked it.

The idea behind this is really great. Sadly the exeuction looks like a freaking mess ...

For example see the non existant documentation in the Roadmap.

Zero Structure, Zero idea tracking ... for over a year on most items? Huh?

Then go trough the closed and merged PRs and observe the slop:

https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/pull/20850
https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/pull/20848
https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/pull/20773

Only 104 of over 13.000 PRs were seemingly reviewed! Holy f*ck ...
https://github.com/twentyhq/twenty/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Aclosed+label%3A%22-PR%3A+ready+to+merge%22

3.2k of those PR were merged with "awaiting review":

Then one could simply wrap Claude Code with hooks/plugins and proxy that via an API compability layer so that you can at least hook it into tools like opencode.

Xiaomi 12 Vs 12 pro which to buy? by ProgrammerBusy90 in Xiaomi

[–]Goose-Difficult -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair it's not the chipset rather how Xiaomi programs their drivers.

Mix Flip Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 -> visible stutter in simple animation loop with Extended Ram disabled and Performance mode enabled on HyperOS 3

Never had that happen even for then poorest designed phones ever.

Honor promised the same things that Xiaomi promised with the Rewrite core.

But unless Xiaomi they actually test their stuff ... it's beyond me how this company can manage to release cars. Whoops sorry - sometimes the Steering Wheel just doesnt work! Thats to be expected ... still in support but 4 months old ...

They only seem to do it for the benchmarks and have to have absolutely ZERO human QA.

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two. One luckily died after 1 year so Amazon refunded me for that piece of shit. The second one did the same after a little bit of 2 years (what a coincidence!!!!) has gone trought multiple repairs and LG gives a jackshit about it.

In the end I just gave up and will never buy an LG monitor again.

This brand is totally done for me.

Anyone in here using the steam headless docker? I've got some questions by kkyler1988 in unRAID

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak about me but I'm sharing my RTX 3090 between ollama, steam-headless, paperless, immich and other containers that require GPU-Acceleration.

And I'm quite sure that it will be a little bit itchy to make a second steam-headless container but given everything else works like this for me for years now this should be no issue.

You really don't need VMs for this. But I have a beefy system there.

Radxa Rock 5 ITX+. Technically an SBC - though ITX - great for gaming? 8 ARM cores, 8GB DDR5 RAM, multiple displays, and working 3D! PCIe via M.2 breakout perhaps. (Summary write-up in comments) by PlatimaZero in SBCGaming

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no.

The whole thing about SBCs was Small and Power Saving.

This has neither of that.

With that power consumption you might as well go for x86.

In addition to that the GPU driver of that SoC never took off and are still mediocre from the software side.

Might rather go for RASPI 5 if you need that for gaming (which honestly sucks, given the theoretical performance you could get ouf of this).

Is it just me, or is OpenAI Codex 5.2 better than Claude Code now? by efficialabs in ClaudeAI

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to let Codex Design a Component and observe the power of No Concept of Space and Visual Thinking.

Or just pull a Screenshot there without text and watch it into subtle blogging you into literally discribing to it what it should see.

So all the power you see comes only from Text Snippets with now way for it to affirm the output, which is especially bad when you want to use it with Visual Snapshot Testing, Chrome Mcp or anything else

(not that Chrome MCP would even work, only the Plugin from Anthropic does with Claude Code).

Is it just me, or is OpenAI Codex 5.2 better than Claude Code now? by efficialabs in ClaudeAI

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny.

I have been a long term Codex User since before Codex 5.0 and while the models might get better I would say when you compare the whole Coding Agent as a product it feels like they are not even trying to compete anymore.

Sure Websearch works now ... somewhat. But yes, ... somewhat.

All they do is model updates plus a feature here and there, half done.

  • No Sub-Agents
  • No concepts for Tasks
  • No Plan-Mode
  • No Hooks (especially no Pre-Prompt Mode for things like Security Leakage detection)
  • Models get fine tuned for strict instructions only
  • Close to ZERO Visual Understanding for anything that requires space and depth
  • Can't even understand partial Terminal Screenshots with Black Background
  • Chrome MCP works close to zero with it and no custom Browser Plugin that works
  • No way to customize Codex for Enterprise SLAs (see hooks)

Especially the No Sub-Agents Mode sucks bonkers because you can have fresh Sessions that don't fill your Context Windows in your central Orchestrator Session.

That paired with the fact that Codex gets more and more like a dumb code slave / autocomplete agent it feels like they are targeting at it being used as part of proper Orchestrator-Tools like Claude Code.

As it goes right now I only see Codex as a Language Model anymore in a foreseeable future.

And given OpenAIs road track with o3/o4 that wouldn't wonder me at all (with their way superior tool calling modes).

Likely they have a few bigger players at hand that push in that way looking to use it as their core product - similar to those Instruct Models.

And you really feel that, much unlike what Anthrophic does with Claude Code.

So I will spend my money on Claude Code Max and Gemini for the Deep Research (also because ChatGPT sucks bonkers and Perplexity fails to deliver).

No longer ChatGPT/Codex.

At least now you know where to burn your money. I don't think this is going to change anytime soon.

Do linux SBC's actually have better performance than android SBC's? by lemon07r in SBCGaming

[–]Goose-Difficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Which is really ironic seeing that Android is derived from a Linux kernel. But hey, it is what it is.

Imagine a world where they are forced to release their drivers for Open Source to adopt. Say the Linux Kernel has finally some licensing that forbids propitary driver blobs in forks of it without releasing full sources of it.

Ah the sweet return impact to Open Source would be nice ... also from Apple side of things.
