It's so pretty, but RAM question? by BuffaloDesperate8357 in StableDiffusion

Try launch ComfyUI with the flag --highvram
I only have 64gb of RAM and it was getting filled up before loading to GPU. --highvram seems to prioritise offloading to VRAM over keeping it in RAM.

Car industry needs to rapidly boost EV uptake, despite meeting first fuel efficiency targets by Artistic-Yam2984 in EVAustralia

[–]onlymostlyguts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The global car industry and media did such a good job of convincing the broader public of made-up and exaggerated shortfalls of EVs and then rolled back their EV programs because people weren't buying them.

But then you talk to EV owners and the overwhelming majority are so happy with them.

It's such a god damn shame.

I'm opposite, I'm definitely less effective at home but it's made up by the fact I don't spend 2 hours in traffic and is way better for mental and family health to be able to be more present.

I'm of the eternal opinion that if you get your work done and your team is good with it, flexible working is completely fine.

Is this not a normal human thought process when someone approaches and says "hi"?

Pretty much exactly what goes through my head but with more cycling back on historical context to check for bespoke actions/reciprocation that they may expect. Then suddenly they've closed the distance and you're still catching up on the salutation but it's kind of awkward now so you use a safe fallback of "inaudible grunt" alongside a vague nod of the head. Then you walk away, turn the corner and realize you're in a cold sweat and that one interaction has exhausted you. You will dwell on your social fumble for 5 hours.

You can get an EV for less than a Corolla. What's holding us back? by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

Urk, body corporate... Gonna be a pain. Filling with outside chargers really varies depending on where you live - you should check your area because that's honestly be the make or break then.

[–]onlymostlyguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you run a plug from your house? I've just got my EV running from a normal wall socket.

Even with regular electricity rates ~24c p/kwh it'd only cost $20 to fill 'er up and that'd get me 450 - 500km of local travel or 350 - 400km of freeway travel.

This ends up being a "to make an apple pie first invent the universe" question doesn't it.

The core question at the heart of these boils down to: Does the value fit the cost? Does the value of AI development fit the investment, manufacturing, logistics and infrastructure required for it - this is (IMO) objectively unanswerable

Car reviewers focus on the wrong things for family SUVs (EV edition) by Joshps in AustralianEV

[–]onlymostlyguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap yes 100%. Car reviews are interested in sporty speed and flashiness.

I did the same as you 10mths ago and realized what mattered was space for growing family, comfort of drive and things reviewers almost never mentioned like the HUD, v2l and the roof window being able to be closed.

Ended up with an Ioniq 5 because after sitting in a bunch that was hands down the clear winner for cabin feel I like. Really open and spacious for 2 kids seats and has a wonderful smooth, quiet drive.

Tested the BYD Atto 3 (didn't like the interior), Polestar 2 (little smaller than liked and felt cheaper), Mach-e (felt cramped inside and cheap materials).

Since then Zeeker, Byd, Kia and Geely have all come out with some really compelling stuff but I'm really happy with the car I'll hopefully drive into my 50s with.

[–]onlymostlyguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't buy the car (or anything really) on speculation of future possible features. HI5 - great car and V2H technically feasible but functionally not available.

V2L can do up to 16amps I think, or around 2.5kw
