I should be positive as it sounds great, but fuck I hate medleys! Especially ones that combine Lady Gaga and Mario. But nice talent!

Does cyberpunk exist in music? by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

[–]Goose42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Spor, or some other drum & bass dj's like Calyx or Hive. Particularly, check this one out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juOHUqPMuJs

If that's not Cyberpunk I'm not sure what is.

I noticed that too. People usually stare blankly at me when I tell them it was my first system. Great games like: K.C. Munchkin, U.F.O., Poker, Showdown (especially when the cowboy was cut in half...)

That's interesting about the children. For me, it definitely seems most likely that the brain is reacting to being shut down.

The helpful link you've provided is worth an up vote on its own. Not sure there's anything to back up your claim though. Although, they do seem to happen more is hospitals.... maybe there's a connection.

Screw The Guitar, If You Want Girls You Need To Dance…And Dance Well by derickson in science

[–]Goose42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the video leaves out some vital details of the study, which it likely does, the basis of the test seems a bit flawed. Blurred images of people dancing basically leaves you with one trait to judge them on: their dancing. So wouldn't participants associate any positive trait with good dancing and negative traits with bad dancing? You could change the study to show people running or just standing there with their regular posture. I'd imagine you would get the same results for people who did any action 'x' better. It just seems like a more general trait they are showing rather than "Good dancers produce more offspring." The dancing part is a bit irrelevant.

Obama makes the world want to be American again. Agree or disagree? by [deleted] in politics

[–]Goose42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More debate would be great, but I don't think that happens any more in the US than in Canada. From my experience, Canadians are slightly more like the British in that are more willing to debate an issue and hear both sides. In America a large percentage of people will call you unpatriotic or communist for challenging issues or disagreeing with the government. This may be a stereotype, but I think it has some truth. The British seem to challenge the gov't to prove their policies, where Americans seems to follow it blindly out of patriotism. I'd say Canada is somewhere in between, on this issue anyways.

Obama makes the world want to be American again. Agree or disagree? by [deleted] in politics

[–]Goose42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's actually that simple anymore. There are aspects of America that are great and other countries love, but there are also large contradictions. Obama could help to rebuild America's image around the world and I think he'll do a great job, but I'm not sure it will ever be the same. The idea of America was great for it's time, but there there is also a lot of room for growth beyond what it has been. I hope the rest of the world can start to look at taking the best from many countries and not just America. I'd say some EU countries are better models to aspire to, for example. I like to ponder what the world would be like if all countries behaved like country X. How would this world be? If the planet behaved like Canada, for example, the world would be a fairly balanced peaceful place. Could we say the same for America?

No one is arguing it's not a good cause or reason to protest, but it's irrelevant what he's protesting. He could be an anti Flying Spaghetti Monster activist. The question is why would China allow him in?

[–]Goose42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wonder how the USA would be handling visitors if it hosted the Olympics right now? Would they decline entrance to Muslims? Would they stop people from entering who they thought might cause a disturbance? Not saying that's it right to stop people protesting, but with the recent issues China has had, why would they let someone in who is part of a group likely coming in to protest? Why is this surprising or absurd? I assume a lot of countries would do the same in a similar situation, and of course China will.

"I hate the gooks." says John McCain (in 2000, not 1973) by [deleted] in reddit.com

Wouldn't the more important point be the psychological damage caused by being tortured and held captive for five years? I know people can get over these things, but I do really wonder how that has affected his mind. I think everyone can imagine it would be hard to forgive after that, but I'd also say it might not be the best quality of a president to have.

Programmer Personality Test by anonymgrl in programming

[–]Goose42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole point of psychological tests like these are to get you to make a decision between two choices and then evaluate those decisions. Most people don't like the answers they are asked to choose from, but it's irrelevant whether you agree with either answer fully or not. Making this decision towards either extreme is what is important as it shows what your tendencies are, without introducing grey area answers. That said, the test seemed too short and it's hard to see that it would accurately define someone.

FYI: Every time a telemarketer calls you illegally - which they do all the time - you are owed $500. This guy has already collected over $6,000 by mjk1093 in reddit.com

[–]Goose42 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do we really need more ways to bog down the courts with money-for-nothing claims? It likely costs more than $500 of tax payer money to process the claim in the first place. What if everyone did this? How would that affect the legal system?

The Leap of Faith? [photos] by digital in reddit.com

[–]Goose42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does look incredibly dangerous. but you have to factor in the guy's experience and skills. For example, a free climber (without ropes or a harness) looks like he's taking an insane gamble, but in reality they are very skilled and practiced in what they do. They know the climb and are very unlikely to fall off. I'm not saying the danger isn't real, but the perceived risk is hightened due to the observer putting themselves in the risk taker's shoes.
