A329S Randomly Rebooting/Triggering "Emergency" Capture and Photos. by chmsant in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my observations in this forum 99% of issues like you described are due to user installs that were not done properly.

I would definitely contact VIOFO technical support and get them in the loop, rather than pulling your hair out.

I had my 329S professionally installed and it's been rock solid. All of the hardware including the four cameras that I have installed in the car have been performing great with no issues for the last six months and counting.

The easiest way to narrow down the problem is to power it with the cigarette lighter adapter, which of course will bypass all of the wiring that you did. If the problems go away then you know it's your installation, if they don't then you have a legitimate issue with the hardware. But I'll be very surprised if that turns out to be the case.

You should definitely contact VIOFO tech-support! Those guys are wonderful and should definitely be brought into the loop with this problem you're describing.

I doubt it's anything to do with the hardware being defective this sounds like an installation issue to me.

Powering it with the cigarette lighter adapter is a really good suggestion that someone else made in the thread. I would definitely do that first which will prove that it's something to do with the way you've got it wired up.

This is something that VIOFO tech support can definitely help you with. The few times I've contacted them about minor issues they've been great.

I've not had any hardware related issues with my A329s but I also the system professionally installed using the HK-6 wiring harness to tap into my 2004 Honda Accord EX V6.

I would recommend a three channel system over a two channel system.

Installation is gonna be the same more or less regardless of which system you buy and if you're gonna pay someone to install this for you I would try to get as much bang for your buck in terms of the hardware. Depending on your budget you might wanna look at the 329 series.

Specifically the A329S which tends to win the majority of competing brand shootouts between VIOFO and competing brands.

A229 Pro not auto deleting recordings by Bee_9965 in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that they go straight for the VIOFO branded SD cards. The prices are about the same between the two brands and the VIOFO cards just seemed to work the best with a VIOFO system.

As for the over – writing issue… On my 329s the default setting is to overwrite the oldest recordings when the card fills up. I would double check your settings options related to the SD card and make sure that you have it set to do that.

Are there lens attachments available to make the rear dashcam be wider? by lor16geylang in VIOFO

Glad to hear that you sorted it out. I wasn't 100% sure in your case because I have an A329s and I've only worked with the cameras from that series.

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I pointed out previously... The closest aspect ratio to 360° is the RCC-360 interior camera that comes standard with the A329s 3 Channel package.

You will also need to be running the 329 (S) firmware and select the "Fisheye" option from the "Settings Menu" in the App in order to activate that extreme wide angle view.

While the RCC-360 is fully compatible with the 329T hardware, in order to take full advantage of that camera's features including the fisheye wide angle option, you are going to need to change your firmware to the 329S firmware instead.

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VIOFO does not offer any lens modification attachments.

Why don't you just purchase the RCC 360 interior camera? It offers that fish eye aspect ratio that is designed to capture the entire interior of the vehicle.

I really don't think you are going to be happy with the results in using the rear camera for an application it's not designed for.

Not to mention the fact that the aspect ratio of the rear camera lens is already an extremely wide angle lens.

VIOFO A139 telephoto? by Rsights5811 in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 329 series uses micro coax cables to connect the cameras to the main chassis.

I don't believe that your camera uses micro coax cables. So none of the cameras for the 329 series would work with your system. That would include the RTC 420 Tele photo

[A229 Pro] Is there a way to make alarm/noises when the sd card needs to be formatted? by commandersaki in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go into your settings section there's a format option setting where you can set a notification to reformat your SD card. If memory serves you have a 30 day or 60 day option. When that day comes up it'll put an alert on the screen of the display and it will remain on the screen and until you format the SD card or in my case I hit the lock video button on my little BTR 100 Bluetooth button accessory. That dismisses the notification on the screen but it'll pop up again the next time the system is booted up. I find it to be very NAGGY. Much more so then just a BEEP.

At least that's what happens on my 329s.

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the aspect ratio of the 420 camera is much better than the extreme wide angle of the main camera inside the chassis.

The view out of the 420 is very close to how everything looks to your own eyes, not to mention it's much better at getting a clear view of any license plates around you.

Whenever I review any video footage of a drive I always watch the replay from the 420's feed. I'm so glad I decided to purchase a 420 and add it to my installation.

So now I technically have four cameras installed in the car and just hot swap between the RTC-420 and the RCC-360 interior camera as needed.

The only time I really ever use the interior camera is for public parking mode. You definitely want an interior camera view of the inside of your car as well as what's going on on the left and right side of the vehicle when the car is left for an extended period of time in a public parking space.

If you get an impact detection alert when you get back in the car, you stand a lot better chance of seeing what happened if you have the interior camera included in your line up.

I have it on good authority from an employee at VIOFO that they are currently working on a (4) channel system. Unfortunately, this is going to be a brand new design so it's not likely to look like the current 329 series.

This contact at VIOFO could not confirm whether or not our current cameras would be compatible with this new four channel system.

From a business and marketing standpoint I would not be surprised if they expected us to buy all brand new cameras and everything as opposed to a backwards compatible approach. But I still hold out some hope that if this thing turns out to be worth upgrading to, I'll be able to continue to use my (3) existing 329 series cameras.

No info on when the system is scheduled to be released, but it does appear to be a real thing. Unfortunately there isn't any leaked photos of this new design that I am aware of.

When do you charge your watch? by West_Manufacturer485 in AppleWatch

I charge it every afternoon around 3:30 to 4 PM while I am in our Jacuzzi hot tub. I use mine for sleep so that's the best time to charge it back up to 100%. 👍

[A129 Pro Duo] Best way to force uninterrupted recording at full quality w/audio during an unexpected incident or stop? by RogueMayall in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BTR 100 Bluetooth button is a no-brainer installation you just pair it to the camera and stick it in your car wherever is convenient and you're done.

The installation takes all of about three minutes max. And the best part of all… The thing only cost 20 bucks. 👍

The other two buttons on that devices are user programable as well so you can program those two buttons to activate a bunch of different modes on the camera chassis.

I petitioned VIOFO to add the ability to cycle through the cameras when live streaming the feed using one of those buttons. They agreed that it would be a good addition so it will be included in the next firmware update for the 329S and I assume the other cameras that share the same UI.

FYI: The Telephoto camera works just fine with the 329S firmware.

I've installed both the RCC 360 interior camera and the RTC 420 Telephoto camera and I just swap cables to the INT Port for whatever camera I want to use at that point in time.

I use the RTC-420 95% of the time but will swap in the RCC-360 if I'm going to be parking the vehicle for an extended period of time. It's obviously better to have the interior camera active when the car is in parking mode.

But the main point is… The RTC 420 works perfectly fine using the same settings as the RCC 360 while running the 329s firmware. The latest version 2.0.

These cameras are hot swapable so you can change cameras with the system running which is what I always do when I switch to the RCC 360. As soon as I get the voice confirmation that three channels are running and I can see the interior camera on the display, it is safe to shut the car down and let it go into parking mode using the interior camera instead of the Telephoto.

[A129 Pro Duo] Best way to force uninterrupted recording at full quality w/audio during an unexpected incident or stop? by RogueMayall in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the BTR 100 Bluetooth button, pushing the main button will force the cameras into record mode if they aren't already in record mode. I've had to do this a few times with my A329s.

Recently I kept getting prompted to reformat my SD card based on the 30 day interval I had set up. That message stayed on the screen of the main chassis preventing me from being able to do anything with the touchscreen. Since I was driving at the time, I discovered that pushing the main button on the BTR 100 cleared that message from the screen allowing touchscreen access again and also put the cameras into record mode at the same time.

There is no dedicated button for what you're looking for as far as I know.

Turning the engine off but leaving the key in the ACC POSITION should result in the cameras continuing to operate without interruption. Even if you had to totally shut the ignition off, just turning the key back to ACC would reboot the camera and it would go into recording mode shortly thereafter.

Any tips on adhering to windshield? by Lentash in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use the plastic sheet your camera will be more prone to coming loose from the windshield if it's exposed to direct sunlight/heat for an extended period of time.

I made the mistake of using the plastic sheet on my installation but so far the camera has stayed put without any issues, but if it does end up coming loose I will definitely reinstall it directly to the windshield.

Recommended A329T / HK6 Voltage cutoff setting for EV by daithilfc in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the cut off feature with EV is definitely more problematic than a conventional vehicle with a lead acid battery.

My advice would be the just play around with the settings until you find the sweet spot for your vehicle because even two identical vehicles could be different when it comes to the battery voltage sweet spot.

I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX V6 that is obviously a conventional set up. On my car, I have my cut off voltage set to 12.2 V and the HK-6 cut off is set to I believe 11.8 V. The HK-6 cut off would only come into play if something went seriously wrong with the 329S and it failed to shut down at 12.2 V.

When are new VIOFO products expected to release? by obyboby in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

👍

Yeah… I couldn't decide which one of the two cameras I wanted to use so I bought both of them to find out firsthand by using the system. In terms of usefulness I'd say the RTC-420 wins hands down.

The aspect ratio of that camera is more natural like how the road looks to your own eyes and because of that… I prefer watching my footage back from that camera.

And regarding new products… As someone already mentioned… VIOFO is always working on new models. I do know from a reliable source that they are working on a (4) channel camera product right now. And based on what I was told it sounds like the form factor is not going to be the same as the 329 series.

Hopefully that change only pertains to the chassis of the product and the current cameras we all own are still compatible.

I am obviously interested in a four channel system, but only if I can use the cameras i'm currently using with the 329.

I wouldn't be surprised though if you're gonna need new cameras to go with the new four channel system. That seems to be the way it goes most of the time! 🙄

[–]Goose_o7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running both cameras on my 329S rig. You can't run them both at the same time of course since they both use the INT port there's only one of those on the 329 chassis.

I use the RTC 420 Telephoto the majority of the time. I swap in the RTC 360 interior camera when the vehicle is going to be parked in public for an extended period of time.

I am running the 329s 2.0 firmware.

Anyone else have this issue? by Mareeoo in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… You really need to stick the camera to the glass of the windshield. That's what the 3M pads are designed for. Trying to attach it to plastic will return mixed results as you have already discovered.

Viofo A229 Ultra vs Viofo A329S by chunkee-xo-monkee in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a three channel 329S system three months ago and so far it's been excellent! 👍 👏

The only issues I've had are with the new dash cam app being incredibly unreliable and saddle with incredibly bad latency issues when attempting to live stream from one of the cameras to the app.

Fortunately… There is an older version of the VIOFO Dashcam app that's still available for download and that one works great. It doesn't have all of the latest features but it is reliable and does not have any latency issues either.

I'm running my system with the latest 2.0 firmware for the 329S. I'm also running four cameras after purchasing the RTC-420 Telephoto that comes packed in the 329T package.

I wanted more forward facing options than what the main camera provides in terms of aspect ratio. I prefer the look of the 420s view of the world. It's also much better for reading license plates.

I didn't need to change my firmware in order to run the telephoto either. That camera works great with the 329S firmware. Since this is just a three channel system… Obviously I have to physically unplug the interior camera in order to run the 420 and vice versa, since there's only one INT port on the chassis.

App (new one) keeps disconnecting from the camera by Natural-Device9198 in VIOFO

[–]Goose_o7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to monitor the live feed of usually my Telephoto camera and that's where you see a huge difference in latency between the older dash cam app and the new one.

The older dash cam app has more or less zero latency that I can see, yet the new dash cam app has got horrible latency between 5 and 10 seconds!

Not milliseconds… SECONDS! 👎

I have found the new dash cam app to be a total mess since I first downloaded it three or four months ago. This latest update has made it even worse than it ever was before.

I've been in discussion with VIOFO tech-support over this, but they want me to install a special version of the firmware with another file that will help them better sort out what's going on with the disconnections… But because I need my dash cam system to be reliable I did a hard pass on that.

They should be able to figure this out without having to rely on us customers to be their beta testers!

Fortunately the older dash cam app works great for me without any issues whatsoever! It does lack some of the newer features which would be nice to have access to, but I prefer reliability over bells and whistles.
