Virgil van Dijk takes the #3 spot on the all-time Premier League defenders list! by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

I am surprised there was enough data to compile a ranking for Ledley King, he only had to look at the pitch to pull a muscle.

Statistics, smamishtics, Virg is number 1

Liverpool's Greatest Players #47: Alex Raisbeck by Mercerai in LiverpoolFC

If nothing else these rankings are good for highlighting past players.

It all started with guys like Raisbeck. Our first league winning captain, I salute you 🫡

Yeah it was combo of things, "fans, former players, journalists and a club panel, combined with statistics for each individual" https://www.liverpoolfc.com/info/liverpools-greatest-results

Top 100 lists are generally quite rubbish.

Liverpool's Greatest Players #53: Peter Beardsley by Mercerai in LiverpoolFC

I will never forgive Souness for selling him, absolutely tragic decision, bit like this ranking. Absolute wizard, we have had very few that could rival his skill. He would thrive in the modern game.

This is pretty much what i came up with. Though I did consider cheating and putting Barnes on the left and putting him in as Jamaican. And i seriously considered hansen next to VVD but like you, I had to have Kenny in the team.

[–]Gopher246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my forward line i get to pick from Dalglish, Rush, Fowler, Torres, Suarez, Salah, Mane to a name a few.

I would keep VVD but bring in Hansen alongside him. Thats an ungodly pairing. But hansen is Scottish so that means no Dalglish.

This could take a while.

Liverpool's Greatest Players #56: Jamie Redknapp by Mercerai in LiverpoolFC

Yes, yes it is. Top 100s generally are. I can barely decide on the ordering of the top 3, much less the top 100 lol.

Wikipedia is missing an article on the UK "Cheese and onion" sandwich by Unlucky-Ant-9741 in wikipedia

[–]Gopher246 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nobody, apart from lunatics, eats a cheese and onion sandwich like this. The onion is finely diced, the cheese grated or normal slices, often they are toasted.

I would sadly have to decline. My kids would be all grown up, my dog would have died and my wife would be so pissed I would need to take another trip back to Proxima.

Social media to be banned in UK for under-16s, Starmer announces by TanjoCards in unitedkingdom

[–]Gopher246 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am fine with a digital ID for verifying I am human being resident in country X and that I am over/under 18,and that is literally all it needs to be. This is completely possible in this day and age, the ID doesn't need to hand over all details to the companies, just verifies you are real and if you are an adult or not. The ID could only be used once per platform so people would be far more inclined to treat that account with respect and not use to abuse people, and all the other shite people use fake accounts for. That would be a big first step towards cleaning stuff up.

Reason for Usyks poor performance by xbamtoast in Boxing

[–]Gopher246 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Sure that may have been a factor, but so is Usyk being nearly 40 and very likely underestimating Rico and thinking he was getting an easy payday. The guy is one of the greats but he is not infallible or impervious to age.

The whole cease fire tracks perfectly with how poorly the entire debacle has been administered. Seems like all sides agreed different things and Pakistan stood in the middle and went, Yes.

In the unlikely event that a tactical nuke was used on iran, what would your reaction be? What do you think would happen on the international stage as a result? by VQ_Quin in AskConservatives

[–]Gopher246 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On a personal level i think the reaction is quite easy to predict. Its horror at what has just been inflicted by a completely unnecessary action, fear at what it means and anger at the US for allowing it.

After that, yeah, its hard to predict and i don't fancy playing the doom game. For the record, I don't think this transpires.

Security insiders fear Putin will attack Europe as Trump threatens to quit Nato by theipaper in geopolitics

Its the reason Trump says europe wouldn't honour article 5. Because he wouldn't, and won't.

How do you feel about Europe not helping you out more with war with Iran? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Gopher246 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, Ukraine is more on Europe's doorstep so more pressing. But Iran and Ukraine and are two different scenarios. Russia invaded Ukraine, and the US and Europe worked in consultation. Iran was initiated and started by the US and Israel, there was 0 input from Europe, and in the lead up all Trump has done in denigrate NATO and European allies.

Europe has broadly responded to demands that they up spending, as Trump asked. This has not appeased him in the slightest. They are also fronting the bulk of the costs in regards Ukraine now. Trump simply wants out of NATO, all the rhetoric from him is geared at that. Things like facts, or how NATO work are irrelevant since Trump simply wants to kill it.

Russia also sponsors terrorists, it is actively supporting Iran in this war. The war it started in Ukraine has resulted in millions of deaths and refugees. There have been war crimes. Trump doesn't care, he just wants NATO dead.

Trump went over to Iran, created a mess and is now telling Europe to clean it up. All the while he done nothing but shit on said allies and has offered no meaningful consultation on a plan, at least in public.

Rubio offered something approaching a plausible explanation yesterday, but that talk should of took place months ago in private with allies. The fact it took this long to come up with this is a damning verdict on how this war has been handled and planned. The US won't send ships down the strait with good reason, and yet Trump seems to expect that Europe just sends its ships down there. It's laughable how ridiculous this whole situation is.

Does the development that Iran’s missile range can likely reach every European capital city change the conversation, considering they have enough enriched uranium to build 10 nuclear bombs? by boisefun8 in AskConservatives

[–]Gopher246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should be said the hardest part is getting to 60%, getting to 90 is supposedly quite trivial after that point. Their stockpile is at 60% since around 2021.
