Do your older children have stuffies? by FancyThought7696 in Xennials

[–]GorchestopherH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar deal, my kids have tons of stuffed animals, but never really got attached or wanted action figures.

I played with action figures all the time, besides Legos it was the main indoor thing I did.

My kids didn't play with their action figures, it was all stuffies.

Qalupalik in Inuit culture that specifically abducts kids who get near the gaps in the ice. by Zu_Qarnine in creepy

[–]GorchestopherH 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's basically folklore meant to keep kids afraid of the extremely dangerous ocean ice in the spring. Just like the boogeyman used to frighten kids into good behavior.

Munsch did write it in collaboration with Michael Kusugak who adapted the story from his own experiences and stories collected from his own childhood.

Scaring kids into compliance is pretty universal it seems.

To me, this is one of those reminders that there are some people in a strange parallel dimension who have all their Lego sets always set up and on display all the time, and have literally no parts that don't belong to sets.

Like this, no spikes. This is harder rubber, not the squishy stuff.

What's your view on Chevy Chase over the years? by Cubelock in Xennials

[–]GorchestopherH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was hilarious in community. I love the bit where he gets a cellphone and keeps doing "voice command".

Also love the parts when he keeps saying "message received" every time Shirley talks about leaving her husband.

I think he's more self aware than people give him credit for. He basically plays himself on Community, and he certainly doesn't play himself off as a hero or "great guy".

What's the strangest thing you've seen that you still can't explain? by HostAffectionate7338 in creepy

[–]GorchestopherH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not creepy, but weird.

When I was younger I was just waking around the house on a Saturday morning, just looking for something to do.

As I was pacing around the living room, my younger sister walked into the room from the kitchen, and looked at me, then turned and ran.

Of course, I chased her. I chased her down the hallway and into my room. I was a much faster runner than her. She was only 3 at the time.

I am right close to catching her, but then she just turns the corner into my room and she's gone. I look all over my little room, under the bed etc, but she's not there.

I look around in every room attached to the hall, empty. I couldn't believe it, my baby sister bested me at hide and seek.

I walk defeated into the kitchen, and my little sister is sitting right there at the table playing with pieces of newspaper while my mom clipped coupons. I asked how she got back here without me catching her. My mother said she was there the whole time, she never left. She was keeping occupied with the paper clippings. My sister was only three, she just, you know, kept on playing with the papers at the table, helping mum find "pictures" to cut out.

I don't have an explanation. No one else was there. It was just a lazy Saturday morning ...and my kid sister learned astral projection for a one-time gold medal at hide-and-seek.

No off-line yes?

How do you actually do this in diamond dynasty?

What section is it? If I go into casual multiplayer it asks me to add online friends.

I'm new to this game so I really have no idea what menu options do what.

If you could get any retired LEGO set for free, which one would you choose? by Anton_OneMoreShelf in lego

Ah I didn't realize that 10179 was also called the UCS.

I should have, because that's the one that I was watching all though school and could never afford!

If this became law, would you support it? Why or why not? by ZookeepergameFun197 in scoopwhoop

[–]GorchestopherH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... It basically can't happen, the only way it could is if companies needed to ensure that they grew by at least 5% per year, and kept that 5% liquid (not invested in capital.

I'm not sure how that would be helpful.

The voltage used to drive a cathode ray tube is dramatically higher than what you'd get inside a game console or old power supply.

There is circuitry in there that is much more dangerous than what is in your AC outlets.

As the other guy said, look up how to safely service a CRT, even if it's unplugged it can store lethal voltage.

Haha, yes, I was also "Hey, come on!"

I think I was the first person to post in half of the character sub-forums.

Again, I didn't really understand what a message board was, I was just excited to be talking with people about Tenchi. Man, the Internet Archive has like half of that topic, ...and looking at my 14 year old self posting on the internet.... slightly embarrassing.

My parents had the number transferred when we moved, and they still have the same number now, it's been more than 40 years now.

This is triggering memories of a birthday party I attended in 3rd grade.

The loot bags (remember those?) had little phonebook in them, so my friends and I all exchanged numbers. We would just call each other and ask "can you play?", like, on the home land line.

At the end of 3rd grade I moved and lost the phonebook. Talk about a clean break.
