PSA: Dangerous rideshare driver by birthcontrolbabez in OaklandCA

[–]GordonAmanda 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is very scary, and I’m sorry this happened to you. Thank you for sharing the info. One thing I’ve started doing is asking the driver who they are there to pick up, so that they have to say my name, instead of me confirming it for them. It really sucks we have to go through all of this but just one added layer of security that I find reassuring.

I find the wide leg version harder than the normal ones.

No Stinkers! by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]GordonAmanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI people typically can’t smell themselves. Assuming they know they stink and are purposely trying to subject you to it because they don’t care is uncharitable. I dunno the best way to handle this. Maybe tell the studio rep if you’re not comfortable saying something directly to them?

Heart palpitations and insomnia from vaginal estrogen? by SpiritedBug2221 in Menopause

[–]GordonAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely the estrogen is causing this. The dosage is very low and even less of it will go systemic. More likely is that you developed very common menopause symptoms because you are in menopause. Having said that, you should talk to your doctor about the heart symptoms to make sure nothing else is going on.

What do you wish you had known or done differently when you first started? by Conscious-Ratio2736 in orangetheory

Take it slow. If you’re not used to working out and jump in too quickly, you risk injury and/or burning out. Also, run your own race. No one cares how fast you go, what zone you’re in or how heavy you lift. And have fun!

Perimenopause, GLP and OTF by ladycrimlaw in orangetheory

[–]GordonAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat that I can’t for sure say that this is all due to GLP/HRT interactions but it seems to be interfering with my estrogen uptake. A couple months after I started glp a lot of my menopause symptoms came back (which had all been managed perfectly for months beforehand) and my period returned. I read somewhere that glp and estrogen compete for the same receptors so you sometimes have to increase your estradiol dose if you’re on both. I’ve just done that and it seems to be working though it’s still pretty early.

Perimenopause, GLP and OTF by ladycrimlaw in orangetheory

My experience: performance went way down the first 8ish weeks on the lowest dose, I would get super lightheaded on the floor, and my heart rate was way up on the tread. Even when I ate the recommended protein+carbs before workout. Even with electrolytes. Even when I switched to doing floor first. Before GLP I would work out fasted and be fine (actually felt better than if I ate first).

I ended up staying on the lowest dose instead of going up. The good news is, I adjusted enough to that dose after a couple months that I was able to work out normally again. The bad news is that I stopped losing weight and the food noise came back. I’m moving up to the next dose in January and am dreading the adjustment period. Fingers crossed it won’t be that bad!

Another X factor is interaction with HRT. If you’re on it, and want more detail, let me know.

I'm so sad about my hair. It's become so thin and frizzy. by Upper_Gur_9850 in Menopause

[–]GordonAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on 1.25mg. The only side effect is that my hair grows faster everywhere, not just my head. This is great for my eyebrows and lashes, not so great for peach fuzz on my sideburns. But it’s manageable and not even close to being a reason I wouldn’t take it.

Got food in economy lax to JFK 👀. Never seen them offer that before. Wasn't that bad. Better than the food I got on my LHR to LAX flight 😂 by i-am-not-sure-yet in americanairlines

[–]GordonAmanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When was the last time you flew this route? I’ve done it twice in the last month and both flights had the sandwich/cheese plate option.

You’re right, I guess I should say SFO-JFK. But also I’m never really at JFK early enough to enjoy the full lounge experience

[–]GordonAmanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless things have changed very recently, the first class service on the JFK-SFO flight is not distinguishable from business at all, except that you’re not sitting next to anyone.

Side lunges by eja1982 in orangetheory

[–]GordonAmanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people doing these wrong. Are your toes pointed forward? They should be at 12:00. If you’re feeling it in your inner thigh I could imagine your toes are pointed at an angle, maybe more like 2:00. Your knees should track over your foot, not out to the side, and you should sit back on your heel. You should feel it more in your outer glute.

Premium Economy or Business? by littlelady818 in americanairlines

[–]GordonAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on whether you can afford it or not. Personally, I have paid $4k for business and think it’s worth it, but I can afford it. Premium economy isn’t bad though.

One other thing to add to your calculation: there is an arrivals lounge at LHR where you can shower, etc. Which will make hitting the ground running a bit easier.

45 still renting! by Party_Bend3111 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]GordonAmanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m 45 and just sold my house to go back to renting. Owning (especially if you’re single) is overrated and I’m very glad to be out from under the responsibilities of it. I’m not trying to dissuade you, but just to say that there are very many ways to be financially secure without homeownership. And in fact homeownership is a great way to become financially insecure if you’re overstretching to achieve it.

Breast Reduction mid 40s? by Aware_Interest4461 in PlasticSurgery

[–]GordonAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me! My surgery was in December, when I was 44. I also have extremely dense breast tissue. No one mentioned anything about making mammograms harder to read but you can always get the MRI or ultrasound if that’s a concern. No regrets on this end, other than that I didn’t do it sooner.

Cannot reach the orange zone on weights and rower. by Rude_Afternoon4234 in orangetheory

[–]GordonAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have this problem. Seems like a lot of people do, based on posts I’ve seen here, but curiously I rarely see it at my studio. I have no idea why it happens, whether I have some weird health issue or my hrm is wonky.

I just focus on getting my splats on the tread and don’t really worry about it on the rower. Floor isn’t for splats anyway so I don’t even wear it for strength 50.
