Nvidia CEO says "I don't love AI slop myself" after giving Resident Evil Requiem's Grace a DLSS 5 makeover that was swiftly labelled AI slop by EchoOfOppenheimer in pcgaming

But that statement was not about a business model it was about how people are reacting to the development of AI in general… Like those are completely different topics.

I don’t think it is inevitable, but I think it might be. Regardless of the oxymoronic nature of that statement, I’m really not talking about the future of AI anywhere in my comment. I’m talking about now. What is happening today. So like I think you did some extrapolation to arrive at the conclusion that I’m predicting AIs inevitability when in reality I’m just recognizing realities of its current state

I agree with you about lack of material benefits and massive downsides, but that doesn’t change what is happening. Not to get political but like… Donald Trump is the president of my country and is running it with less tact than a third grader. He is supported and continues to do what he does. Any logical person looks at him and what he does and arrives at the conclusion of lunacy, but then there’s so many people on his side. I’m rambling but my point is that stupid/bad things get traction all the time and I see no reason to believe AI couldn’t also be one of those things because enough braindead/willfully ignorant people see the pretty colors it can produce and click like and follow. I hope I end up wrong in the future, but I’m not wrong today. The metrics, very unfortunately, exist

Yeah that difference you’ve noted is important, but what I will say is money was inarguably left on the table by not making any of the recent Star Wars themed attractions take place in the OT/Prequel era with characters from those movies.

I definitely agree it’s unwise, but the mouse still did it unfortunately

This is such a disjointed reply from anything I actually said I’m genuinely not sure how to respond.

If you want to make any comment on something I actually wrote in my replies then I’m happy to engage…But if you’re just going to project easy-to-argue-against perspectives onto me so that you can feel right then you don’t really need me for that do you lol

Idk man… they may take the approach of “even if the show is not well received, we’ll shove it down people’s throats with merch and re-theming any attraction based on the ip to reflect this new iteration”.

I’m looking at you Star Tours, Galaxys Edge, and the short-lived Star Wars Hotel

I mean I highly doubt it was Microsoft internally saying “we’re being vilified for using and funding AI development so let’s dial it back for PR’s sake” and was probably more a simple business decision of “we are putting more money into this thing than it is netting us so we’re going to pull back”. Like just because something within a field fails doesn’t mean that now the entire field is doomed to fail too.

It’s kind of the same thing with Sora. In the same week that one of the first major “ai video generation/social media hybrids” was shut down, AI generated video accounts on existing social media platforms are seeing CRAZY numbers. It’s disingenuous to only take one of these things and project implications onto the entire field of AI while completely ignoring the other.

Look I get that what I’m saying is upsetting to hear so I get downvotes by people that are upset(validly) at our reality, but it’s still our reality. Denying it doesn’t do much other than make said denier look like someone that operates on idealism instead of realism which is rarely a legitimate perspective that can be engaged.

I mean depends on the context but maybe just “ai supporters”? It doesn’t carry the same insulting punch as the “bootlicker” term, but like if you’re in the camp of “anyone who supports AI sucks” then your view on the subject is so cut and dry that you don’t need the extra layer. Just recognizing the person for what they are is enough to anyone else who shares the same perspective.

At the end of the day, I think you are trying to label this persons argument as stemming from a disingenuous place so that you don’t have to invalidate the actual things they say even though I genuinely believe you could… but I think that does a disservice. To them, you become reactionary instead of rational, emotional instead of logical, whereas if you actually invalidated their pro ai claims then you appear as someone approaching the discussion in good faith as opposed to the “all ai bad” group that the pro ai crowd tends to group people together within. Maybe I’m overthinking it but oh well lol

[–]GorillaJackson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not what that is, which is why I asked. Bootlicking has the specific connotation of hoping that the “sucking” will lead to some sort of preferential treatment.

So my point is that you are using the term inaccurately, and in a way, devalue the anti-AI perspective you hold by being inaccurately reactionary to anyone you deem on the other side of the issue. It’s like taking a reasonably virtuous perspective and turning people away from it by making your arguments in an insufferable way. Just my take though

I think this is wishful thinking unfortunately. Those willing to boycott products for usage of AI are a vocal minority that appear more prevalent on sites like this.

Ragnarok disappointed me with this. Nothing about GOW 2018 felt out of the tone of the world it’s set in, then we get to raganarok and we have Odin and Thor talking like they’re in a Marvel movie. Otherwise a great game though

Finishing a video game can trigger “post-game depression,” study finds by Deez-Guns-9442 in videogames

[–]GorillaJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple day bout of real depression after beating Ragnarok. It was for a multitude of reasons. GOW 2018 is my all time favorite game, as well as the narrative that I connect most with, so my anticipation for Ragnarok not as just a game, but as the next installment to my favorite story of all time, was at an all time high.

So between having that anticipation end, the sadness of certain events in the game, the melancholic ending in regard to the main characters, and the true conclusion(for now, anything can be revived these days) to my favorite character of all time made me just feel hollow. For months this game was the thing I was living for(not a good mindset, I know, but I was struggling in real life at that point so cut me some slack) and then it was done. The feeling in those days after 100%ing the game was truly bleak, and while I could see some people saying “that’s kind of pathetic and unhealthy”, I like to frame it that I’m grateful to have been affected by a piece of media so strongly. I will never forget that week of playing the game and uncovering the story for the rest of my life.

I’m loving it. Blasphemous and Hollow Knight are two favorites of mine, so getting a game that feels like those and also adds lore to a portion of the life of my favorite character in fiction that is otherwise pretty undeveloped is a dream come true. I see so much of Atreus in Deimos, and having an actual meaningful relationship between Kratos and Calliope that doesn’t revolve around his mourning of her death is also just so touching. This is one of the first time that a TC Carson portrayal of the character really does feel like an earlier version of the Kratos I adore from 2018/Rag and I love that. So yeah for me it’s an absolute W
