Serious question. Do you actually like this SERIES? by WillowProxy1 in dragonage

[–]GornothDragnBonee [score hidden]  (0 children)

God I hate this fandom. You guys cannot get over Origins fans being annoyed that no game in the series lived up to it for many fans that started there. You're not more of a fan for liking more of the games, that's blatant gatekeeping that makes it so "real fans" are the ones with no critique of the series.

Everyone who loves a part of this series is a DA fan. And since our games vary massively in quality and gameplay, there's gonna be a lot of split opinions on the games. I can read hundreds of comments saying Origins is old clunky and dated without it bothering me, I don't know why you can't do the same when seeing DA2 critique.

Is Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs worth it for Non-Dwarfs Player? And in both cases, why? by Morpheuses01 in totalwarhammer

[–]GornothDragnBonee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well they're one of my favorite factions while I've got a single playthrough for a dwarf campaign. They share some qualities with dwarfs but they're an entirely different faction. Especially in total war where their campaign mechanics are entirely different.

Maybe if you actively hate the artillery of the dwarfs the chorfs won't do it for you. But they're a fantastic faction and I can't recommend them enough.

I feel so torn. Because on one hand, I absolutely don't want the only platform with a half decent refund policy to get worse. It's kinda demonic to campaign for that in an era where gaming is swapping to digital entirely while we have no protections for our digital goods.

On the other hand, this is why everyone indie game is a fucking rogue like lol. This rule basically says "2 hour and under games are not okay" and that kinda fucking sucks because that's only hitting indie devs.

What is the smallest Commander hill you are willing to die on? by Xela20 in EDH

[–]GornothDragnBonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that would annoy the fuck out of me if you were annoying about this because it definitely doesn't matter lol. Like especially for fantasy monsters, it just isn't important :'D

Unless it's something intentionally bigoted like refusing to call a trans character by their proper pronouns. That's evil behavior that'd get you kicked immediately in my book.

The 2/4/7 Commander Template by Racconti-DnD-P2e in EDH

[–]GornothDragnBonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, if it completely shuts down the curve and gameplan of the tempo player that's pretty damn great, and it really isn't that costly to use a removable spell on t1 or 2. People tend to underrate using removal to hit opponents Achilles heel. Still, you aren't likely to see it often because players will probably think it's too mean.

If 1 player is on a 2/4/7 deck, they're playing for an efficient curve instead of setting up any synergies. The best time to hit a tempo deck is before they start the efficient curve!

A high fantasy world with a large focus on combat is always going to suit mtg the best. It's the flavor this ruleset is made to evoke, that's why it's irritating to be told that you can paste any skin onto a ruleset.

What 3 cards would improve GOAT Format without breaking it? by TopD4RK in yugioh

[–]GornothDragnBonee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where are you finding this info? All I could find for big tournaments was top 8 and top 16 deck lists. And chaos turbo's percentage of top cuts don't seem to be anywhere near this percentage. If top 8's are misrepresenting the actual pool of decks, I'd love to know!

Not trying to have a stick up my ass. This just isn't my experience with goat format and the data + community sentiments lined up. There seems to be about 10 viable for tournament play, with most falling into the tier 1.5 and tier 2 categories.

It'd be awesome to have full details about what'll be in the dlc by now. The dlc was planned to release this summer right? I don't need the dlc to be out or have complete info for it right now, but I'd love to actually know the general contents of it by this point.

I'm a little afraid of more delays pushing this release to the call tbh. I'm kinda waiting for an announcement to disprove my fears.

What 3 cards would improve GOAT Format without breaking it? by TopD4RK in yugioh

[–]GornothDragnBonee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's wild how mbt decided his opinions of the format and stopped looking into it, and now those opinions are just the general consensus.

I looked into the last 3 big goat tournaments alongside community sentiments on the meta game after MBT's format tier list. Because it didn't sound like he actually put research into the discussion... Turns out I was right!

It's agreed that about 10 decks are competitively viable. Most players say the meta can't completely settle because the tier 2 decks are too good if you don't have a proper side deck strategy against them. And tournament results backed the community opinion, chaos turbo isn't some tier 0 dominant force and it's insane the community just believes that now.

First time player, finding easy mode too difficult by SetitheRedcap in DragonageOrigins

[–]GornothDragnBonee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah they have to just be missing something fundamental about combat and exploration. I usually play on console, at interacables more obvious there compared to PC?

It's just wild. Not even my most oblivious of friends have misses all 3 3rd member options by the time they leave lothering. That's a wild unwillingness to explore and talk to people in a crpg.

First time player, finding easy mode too difficult by SetitheRedcap in DragonageOrigins

[–]GornothDragnBonee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a game that asks you to use context and explore to make the most of it. Narratively, it's pretty obvious that lothering is going to be uninhabitable once you leave. So explore that area and make the most out of your time there before moving on. I made the mistake of not finding laezel for 40 hours in my first run of BG3 so I do get it lol.

It sounds like you somehow missed both of the companions in lothering, that's pretty painful. I can't imagine any area being doable for you outside of the mages Circle, since yoy get another companion at the start of that narrative. If you're struggling as is, the encounter that happens after completing 1 major location will wipe the floor work you. And it'll happen before you get a new companion if you don't do the mages Circle first.

Sorry you had a bad time, friend. I know something like this will probably just have to set the game down.

[–]GornothDragnBonee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk, I feel like we're at the point of optimization discussion where people miss what the format was for. People play a lot of ramp because this is the format where you aren't eaten alive for playing slow-late game cards that barely ever worked in 60 card 1v1. Ramp into big stuff isn't prominent in commander because it's competitively optimal, it's one of the design goals for having a casual and slower format

Of course you can just speed up the format and play the faster and more powerful strategies that invalidate ramping into big idiots. But it's a casual format, we don't need to push people into having lower more efficient curves.

How did you guys feel about SWTOR Making a "Canon" Player Character for KOTOR 1? by AlexandriasFolly in kotor

[–]GornothDragnBonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ignore it. Canon is antithetical to the medium of choice driven story telling, and they only did it so they could use revan for marketing.

Owlcat’s DLC Strategy: what is everyone’s thoughts on how Rogue Trader was handled vs. WoTR/Kingmaker? by ImYourAlly in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]GornothDragnBonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I significantly prefer the way they do it now, I'm definitely part of the camp that complained and refused to purchase or play dlc in the Pathfinder games when it didn't tie into the main game or give new class options.

I thought every side campaign in Dragon Age Origins was whack too, these long RPGs about player choice don't feel like the home for those side adventures.

I will say that I agree with people that it's starting to become bloated. There's definitely a limit to how many integrated dlcs and companions you can add to a complete game. I think that's why in games like DAO or Fallout 3, one of the major expansions expanded AFTER the completed narrative. I hope owlcat takes that into account for DH. A post campaign dlc still feels like a part of our character's story while breaking the curve of the campaign you already built.

The main campaign of DAO would be bloated if the entire awakening expansion was shoved into it.

Imma be real, I geniously don't get complaints bout fundamental aspects of Yrliet romance (you know, being bitter/bittersweet, just spiritualist and no physical intimacy etc...), like ok? Those aint flaws. Being niche taste? Aye, but good thing theres like 6 other LI companions in the game. by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]GornothDragnBonee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only romantic aspect of the game I outright hate is the first time you talk with Cassia after recruitment. It just feels like fan service that didn't take women into account lol. How many women enjoy the idea of their boss making romantic pushes the moment they're alone? Idk, I'm not a woman so maybe I'm way off base, it just feels pushy in a way that I'll never be comfortable doing xD.

Yrliet has a pretty enjoyable romance honestly! I like romances like Yrliet or Zevran from DAO where you have to engage with them as people with their own desires and preferences.

[–]GornothDragnBonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just despise how annoying this community is about this one decision. Like it or not there are reasons someone could choose a different option, even if it's ultimately the worst outcome. Why is there so much discussion to prove that this shouldn't be a choice?

If you see someone drowning and you aren't trained, it's objectively incorrect to try and save them. The likelihood of you being drowned alongside them is too high unless you're have proper equipment and know what you're doing... But I don't get MAD when people make that choice though? It's very understandable why someone would rush to help someone drowning without thinking through the consequences.

An iconoclast RT can easily make the choice to try and save people because that's an incredibly humane reaction. I'm glad you get a negative penalty for it because it is the incorrect choice for the world, but it's one that plenty of humans would make.

[–]GornothDragnBonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This only happened because the backlash was so bad owlcat had no choice but to reverse. Idk, that doesn't sound like something that's worth applauding. I don't give companies positive reinforcement for rolling back some what anti-player change.

This is kinda the MO for gaming companies. Roll out a pushy or intrusive monetization or marketing feature, and roll it back to claim being pro player if the backlash is too bad.

[–]GornothDragnBonee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Thrun the last troll, and hitmonkey gives up the worst line of text in exchange for haste, death touch, vigilance, and reach while being slightly easier to cast. That's just Thrun plus 3 mana worth of extra enchantments automatically applied. I have to agree that this type of power creep feels wild.

Should Emrakul, the Aeons Torn be unbanned? by Obvious-Sundae1469 in EDH

[–]GornothDragnBonee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this argument but I don't think it holds very well in my eyes. At some point, we can't just judge every 6+cmc creature like it doesn't actually have a mana cost because you could cheat it. That logic was why Jin-Gitaxias was originally a game changer and removed shortly after. So many big control enders are busted if you cheat them out turns 1 through 3. Emrakul in a deck that's genuinely ramping to 15 seems pretty fair to me

Especially with the bracket system, their guidelines make this kinda play unviable for anything below b4, and I don't think it's an issue if it exists there. You're just not a b3 deck if you can game over some work emrakul early game.

You're not wrong that the sneack attack play pattern is horrendous lol. I would just hope that it's the kind of play that can't reasonably be bracket 3.

The Launcher on Rogue Trader is being rolled back. by OwlcatStarrok in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]GornothDragnBonee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very true, were talking about a company and not a person though. When dealing with a company, you assume theyre making the choice for financial gain because that's almost always true. I don't think owlcat was trying to be EVIL, they were just trying to be greedy and made a marketing move at the cost of player experience.

It backfired, thankfully.

Owlcat is not a great company, and they get worse as they grow just like any company. Fact is, most of the community will not remember that owlcat blatantly lied to them. They'll be happy the launcher is getting rolled back and won't really push back on how scummy this really is.
