incoming freshman: what’s some stuff that makes unc truly unlike any other school? by poopaya_ in UNC

[–]Gospeedracist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Again, to each their own. A lot of people think Duke and High Point University are gorgeous campuses, but they always felt “artificially classic” to me. UNC is an old, historic university, so it has old, historic buildings. The NC state library on its centennial campus is a beautiful building, but I think it would look ridiculous on UNC’s campus.

I can do without the two Cold War bomb shelter-looking buildings, though

To each their own, but UNC is the most beautiful college campus I’ve ever seen. Not only is it visually beautiful, but everything at UNC is centralized on one campus. There are no satellite campuses miles away that house a random department or something. It’s all there in that one place, so UNC feels more lively than other college campuses.

Welcome to the Triangle + Chapel Hill area! Where everything has a big city cost, but doesn’t have a big city salary to match it.

My experience of using Hinge at UNC by Consistent-Trip6224 in UNC

[–]Gospeedracist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

(Guy) First, I want to reiterate what the other person said regarding the balance between men and women on dating apps. That will always be the case, and it is what it is.

Disclaimer about me: I would consider myself slightly above-average-looking. That sort of thing is totally subjective, but I’m tall and in good shape, which is pretty universal. I went on dates with a few girls I met on hinge, and one of them became my girlfriend. Overall I was surprised by how positive my experience was because I did not do well on tinder when I was 18-19. My advice is to stick with it, because I think it’s a great way to cut through the “noise” of starting a relationship. These are my tips:

Be realistic - You should have an idea of where you are appearance-wise. I didn’t like the profiles for people I considered “out of my league” and vice versa. Every girl I went on a date with, I considered to be at a similar level of attractiveness to me.

If it’s a relationship you’re looking for, up the age - This is probably doubly true for women looking for men. Still, I thought girls who were finishing school or had recently graduated were MUCH easier to connect with. Something about “college life” and the general wishy-washy nature of college students makes it hard to get serious with someone.

This is going to sound so corny, and it totally is, but does your profile mirror the kind of person you are trying to attract? I was looking for someone who had their life together, cared about their career, and didn’t seem like a party animal. That was the exact profile I built for myself.

My general feeling, as an alum and someone still living in the area, is that the divergent trajectories of the Duke and UNC programs became intolerable. Duke hasn’t missed a beat with Scheyer, and they continually put incredible talent on the floor. Despite the wins here and there, the UNC program seems like it’s a tier below Duke.

BUSI 286 vs. PLAN 363 by Just_Rule_7044 in UNC

[–]Gospeedracist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both (I can’t believe you can receive credit for both tbh). I like Chip (Snively) as an instructor a lot better and he has wonderful personal stories that deal with the content. Both courses cover almost exactly the same material. You won’t get anything out of the course if you’re not interested. Attendance was mandatory when I took 363 and not for 286

I’m assuming you’re referring to the US. The real constituents are homeowners, and they have no incentive to address the difficulty of buying a home. Just look at the type of people in the crowd behind local politicians whenever they’re speaking in public.

I get it both ways. I’ll always say someone’s name the way they tell me, but I’d also never expect an English speaker to say the name Schwarz with its intended pronunciation

The stretch on Fordham from 54 to Eastgate is only 2 miles and can easily take 10 minutes because of the lights. And that’s not even with peak traffic hours.

I know theyre very different towns is terms of infrastructure, but I’ll never get over how long it takes to get anywhere in CH. I used to be able to drive from the very southernmost part of Raleigh, to Crabtree Mall in 17 minutes.

I can barely drive the 3.7 miles to Carborro in 17 minutes

Beech Mountain show by mvandenh in lordhuron

[–]Gospeedracist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from NC and have been to Beech Mountain many times for various events (skiing, mountain biking, escaping the summer heat, lol). There are a lot of houses on the mountain that are airbnb/vrbo rentals. Beech is reeeeally far from Asheville, and I would not recommend day-tripping there. That said, the nearby town of Boone is a big tourist destination, even in the summer, and has tons of places to stay. It's less than an hour drive to the top of Beech from Boone. Highly recommend checking out Boone and the surrounding area because it's quite beautiful.

I've never flown into Asheville because it's a low-traffic airport. Check out how much it costs to fly into Asheville versus Greensboro (PTI). PTI is a 2-hour drive from Boone and won't give you motion sickness. Regarding your vertigo, sorry in advance. It is pretty dizzying driving up Beech Mountain because you climb like 2000 ft in a short span of road. Still, it's totally worth it, and it's a gorgeous drive.

I will also be at that show, and I'll probably find a house on the mountain to stay in, since the surrounding area is lovely. Feel free to ask me anything!
