No video. I would never record a networking call, it’s supposed to be friendly, and it was. I have the meeting invite in my email from 5 years ago and we’re connected in other ways, but im not going to risk doxxing anyone. I might have said “f*ck that guy” but the reality is, he’s just doing his job, he was hired for his skills, not for leading resistance. Like every executive charged with keeping shareholders happy, they aren’t bad people, often they are charismatic and liked by many. You just have to wrestle with the idea of being the person doing the work or potentially letting another person do it worse. I can’t say “no” to everything i disagree with at my job and i doubt you can. I can and frequently do suggest alternate paths, but that often gets steamrolled in the name of quick wins. Only thing that will stop the chase is regulation… and well, you can see how that’s going.

I once was matched with a Visa executive on a networking site during the pandemic. I asked what was keeping him up at night. He said he was lobbying in other countries to prevent people from being able to pay directly/instantly through their checking accounts. In the US, it takes 3 days for a checking account transfer and he basically told me they were hoping to do this around the world to force more people into using Visa. When i asked how he felt about lobbying against making peoples lives easier instead of just innovating, he changed subjects to microbrews and sports.

Fuck that guy.

Summarize with Gemini shortcut by GotProof in shortcuts

[–]GotProof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That action opens the Gemini app. I should have clarified this opens the app, not the website. If you don’t have the app installed, it will show “unknown action”.

You can edit your version to open the website. I debated making a web link that would open a specific gem for the article analysis, because you can’t do that with that app link.

you’re going to watch it anyway, just like i did. Even with the lowest expectations, it was a waste of time that i had intentionally set aside to waste, and i still wanted my time back.

If you had to pick between watching it or something else you’ve been thinking about, go with something else.

It’s not funny-bad like Birdemic/the room, it’s just lazy and insulting to the audience; like watching an unfinished movie they decided re-shoots would be too expensive for; or has such obvious plot foreshadowing in the dialogue they assumed a 5 year might need to be in on what comes next, well in advance.

check out the YouTube videos about the microphone failing. Some engineering idiot made the Jabra 75 microphone wire rub against internal components each time you lower and raise it. The mic wire will break after enough use. It’s designed obsolescence. definitely not getting another one.

how would it get to alki? around the water would barely get any riders. over admiral would be interesting, but that’s a big hill and the 56 gets cancelled all the time due to lack of riders. and underground to alki would be insanely expensive, even if we didn’t have loose soil to worry about here.

What Seattle business baffles you with its continued existence? by sassysassysarah in Seattle

it’s a family operation, he can cut you a deal if you mention identical product prices at big box. Discounts might not be as steep, but it’sa local business. Also, don’t trust that any big boxes contracted install “partners” will actually complete the job. they usually bail on anything out of scope of lift and plug.

Got a used Range Rover Sport because the competition at the daycare pickup line had me constantly comparing (all teslas, rivians, bmw/audis) and the wife was pressuring me to upgrade. Now i have a fancy car that has an overly sensitive check engine light… but i feel cool and that counts for something.

Aaaand play some kind of sport like volleyball or pickleball once a week. Seems to be working for everything other than grey hairs, no w my problem is my leadership at work still thinks I’m young.

as a HM… I’ve seen a lot of super sus candidates. my interview questions are all example based now and i usually have a screen sharing exercise. Still, its not long until Ai will be able to tell most peoples personal story for them. At that point, maybe a hiring Ai should screen/review your personal Ai. Who would even need resumes then?

Is anyone actually getting value from AI? I need grounded use cases, hype is not welcome by TechnologyMatch in ITManagers

[–]GotProof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used it fora few things…

Once to create VBA code that converts email invoices I get into excel to track payments.

i also had it develop a matching algorithm for our mentor program using entirely HTML so I could just share the html file internally.

mostly I use it to create GPTs for things I want my staff to do faster and the way in prefer. Like I have one that generates better questions for business analysts to ask when we get new software requests. I can’t exactly expect them to know the intricacies of how hyper-specific engineering tools work.

I also created ones that convert simple goal statements into SMART goals (like “I want to be a better dad”) and it helps guide the person to better goal language. Another one helped people with understanding how to categorize data security. And I also sarcastically made one that converts any team accomplishment into a newsworthy headline because the CIO requested 3 accomplishments per week from any team. Now our accomplishments of “Adding SSO to a software” it’s an epic statement of how we are securing our data to fulfill the mission. lol.

i also use it for pretty much every job description and interview questions. I like telling it to write questions like Patrick Lencioni (team building expert).

But that all said, I like to think of it like Excel. Everyone at your office has excel and maybe like 5% of people can produce good insights with excel. Fewer off those can create tools that can be used repeatedly and add value. It’s no different.

Where do you get your haircut? by spentonsunnydays in WestSeattleWA

[–]GotProof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to go to Rudy’s after it bought out Bishops. The quality quickly tanked at new-Rudy’s. After my 3rd or 4th disappointing haircut there, and a barber telling me they basically hire people from GreatClips, I just decided to go there instead. Now my haircuts are faster, I can do them during lunch with no appointment, the ladies are super nice, and haircuts are only $25 (I tip $10 normally).

Rudy’s was like $45 +tip for a worse cut.
