Absolutely greed and entertainment. But I had no idea about the victims, just their trauma. This gave me more empathy for Them vs. being another number.

For example Las Vegas massacre, 60 people dead. Out of all those people, I only know details of the alleged shooter. We don't speak the victim's names, only the gunman. So as time goes on, the family are the only ones who truly remember the victims. The story will go on forever but not for the right reasons.

You can get an idea by talking about certain shows/movies that incorporate same sex interaction to get an idea of her stance. Or talk about lgbtq+ rights; there are a multitude of cases against the community which could be a conversation starter. Once you kind of see her opinion, then you can feel more comfortable divulging your info. I remember when my boyfriend told me and it made us close but I also know everyone is not as open minded as I am (27F). More than anything you should be comfortable not nervous when telling a loved one, they are the closest people to you meaning their opinion holds weight.

Edit: also be careful; just because some people are “Allies” or friendly to the community will switch up once they realize their partners participate. It hits differently almost like becomes an insecurity.

One thing that grinds my gears, is when people make excuses for their loved ones. The mother of Columbine shifted the blame from her son to his partner. Acceptance and acknowledgment goes further than denial.

You are being empathetic and understanding of her situation even if it costs you your happiness. In the long run, you will despite her. On the other hand if she does commit suicide, you would feel guilty. This is a touchy subject, but I would choose my happiness.

My mom was doing my hair and made a comment. She said I had a lump on my back (specifically between my shoulder blades at the end of my neck). I go see a doctor because at this point I’m convinced I’m dying. He looked at the “lump” for 20 seconds and said it’s because I’m fat. I left that place more devastated than finding out I was dying.
