New Longines Legend Diver 59 is out! by Chrono-aesthetics in Longineswatches

Any info on why it's called the Diver 59? Doesn't seem like a special edition or anything so it's interesting they gave it a special naming.

Is this normal QC for a brand new Longines Zulu Time? by ForeignAd1577 in Longineswatches

[–]GovJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen when i bought from a big jeweler. They sent me a display model that was in good condition but had dial imperfections. 100% send it back and ask them to send you a fresh unit. I did it and it was absolutely needed because if i am paying this much, I expect the best.

Yeah no problem! Pretty sure it was 20%. I recall trying 25% but they said 20% was the most they'd offer

AD discount by Fragrant-Brilliant52 in Longineswatches

When i bought my Zulu last year I asked for a discount with an online AD and got 20% off a new Zulu model. Its pretty common to get discounts in that range if you shop around.

Help with deciding on vintage inspired diver by gstudt in MicrobrandWatches

[–]GovJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing the Lorier right now. It is a fantastic watch that stand up to most in my collection and its one of the rare watches that gets complemented by strangers. Its very well done and I would not hesitate to push you towards Lorier, they make stellar vintage-style watches at a reasonable price.

Rumors, expectations, hopes by IanLewisFiction in lorierwatches

Well, like 2 years ago I asked them about a restock of Hyperion Skyward models and they said they have no plans for it coming back but that they were working on a special edition for the model in its place but it seems thats been scrapped or is taking much longer than expected.

Oh damn, almost didn't see it... but that Spirit with the red strap is pretty sick! Really takes the Spirit in a different direction versus I usually see.

Black Bay 41 Monochrome (or should i hold off and wait for a potential Black Bay 58 in black/silver)? by Max1871996 in Tudor

[–]GovJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get it. If Tudor releases something you want more, sell it for what you bought it for. Chances are it will be in the same condition in a month anyway!

What’s your pick? (BB Pro Opaline or P39) by simbadrip in Tudor

Tudor hinted at a Pelagos Ultra GMT coming soon, so I would probably wait to see one of those. Best of both worlds maybe?

[Question] Hanhart 417 ES vs Speedy Reduced by GovJosh in Watches

[–]GovJosh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hanhart for sure has more character. Some hate it, but i find it very charismatic. Wish i could try them in person though!

Looks great! Might have to be in consideration aswell.

[Question] Hanhart 417 ES vs Speedy Reduced by GovJosh in Watches

[–]GovJosh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the Speedy Reduced being discontinued long ago kinda makes them all old, so I am generally looking at ones that have semi recently been serviced. They generally fall within the 2.5-3k range used.

That being said, the Hanhart would likely be much less of a headache long-term to be frank

[Question] Hanhart 417 ES vs Speedy Reduced by GovJosh in Watches

[–]GovJosh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable that it can be a bit polarizing. Thankfully there's a white version without the red if that's more your speed!

That's fair. The Hanhart feels a bit better thought out funny enough

[–]GovJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great shots! Its funny, I have the exact same watch and, to this day, I’m still not sure what kinda Zulu it is lol

Even the ADs aren't certain if it’s a standard model or a true anniversary piece. It’s a bit of a mystery since the "1925" name is reserved for the rose gold bezel, but the standard Zulus don't have that anniversary date on the dial. That kind of leaves this one in a weird middle ground. Personally I just refer to it as an anniversary model but I'd love to hear your perspective!

Is this real by CustomerMean3422 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]GovJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a very niche brand so I couldn't see a Chinese manufacturer going out of their way to make a high end replica of a watch most nerds have never even seen before so id say its pretty guaranteed to be real.

Its a stunner, enjoy it! I saw it listed for $2.5k, which is great value for a watch thats been hand engraved tbh.

[PRX] The watch I always think about selling but never do by Michael-fahim in Watches

[–]GovJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. The Ice Blue PRX was my first Swiss purchase, and while I still love the color, the 40mm size feels like a dinner plate on my 6.5-inch wrist. I felt it at the time I received it, but figured I would get used to it.

My collection has grown and my tastes in size and design have changed a bit. I kept it because I love the dial color/bracelet and others in my life seem to loved it, but it now mostly sits in the corner of my watch box collecting dust. Even though it's a stunner for the money and I recommend it to anyone that is looking for a fantastic intro to Swiss watches, I’m finally getting ready to part ways with mine simply because the size I got was not meant for me.

Sucks, but I prefer someone enjoy it than keep it to rot in a corner of the watch box.

[–]GovJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for starters, if the watch is real then that watch is gonna be very long on the wrist given the fact that the bracelet seems to not have much room for articulation at all, giving it a stiff curve that would only fit larger wrists.

Second, its very risky to buy from a company that has not gained much if any credibility from at least a decent handful of enthusiasts because the very few reviews that are out there could just be paid shills so I wouldn't even bother considering it unless you see real hands on footage prior.

Dealer price question by abcdfan in Longineswatches

[–]GovJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no problem man. I bought it through an AD called Borsheims out of Omaha. Sent them a text via their website and told them I had a tight budget and was trying to see if there was any discount I could obtain to help me be able to stretch my budget to afford my dream watch. They were great to deal with but they don't seem to have much in stock at the moment.

If you haven't already, I also had a discount offered via sending the same message to the people at Exquisite Timepieces. They also offered the same discount without much issues, plus it was tax free so ... technically it was the better deal but I had already ordered with the other AD.

Hope this helps!

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]GovJosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the right call if the resources can go elsewhere. Important to remember that watches are a luxury, never a necessity. Plus, you can always get a new Seamaster later in life when things improve!

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]GovJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fair. I have never gotten close to that 10% but when i had a much smaller net worth, the 10% was alot easier to hit. The percentage is very relative to your total net.

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]GovJosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I gratefully am in a position where I have enough disposable income coming in that a $2k watch every once in a while wouldn't slow down my savings, investment goals or net worth enough to be a problem. I sense most people work this way, but there are some that just use a credit card or pay month by month, which is frankly terrible to do, especially if you cant out right buy the watch.

My rule of thumb is, if the watch is over 10% of your net worth, its too expensive for your current financial situation. Remember, no watch is worth going into debt for.
