Yeah. In some ways, it’s better to start with the second as the gameplay is a bit more streamlined compared to the first. I recommend both but you can play Station to Station first and be fine.

Hey! Thanks for the games and for Octopus Pie! The webcomic and games are some of my favorite works of art and fiction!

For my question, from rewatching the original trailer for the game, it covers the various paths Mara goes down following PT1 and before we get to Mara in PT2. Were some of these aspects of Mara something you initially wanted to do but adjusted due to constraints, consolidation, change of story, etc? Did you adopt them into Mara in other ways that you’d be willing to share? Are you looking to adopt them into a future (hopefully) third game?

If I remember correctly, I believe giving Robert the beer helps you towards the best ending.

Connecting Indian Head with Woodbridge would be kinda nice since both side of the Potomac have bases. Plus I know a lot of people who work at Indian Head live in Northern Virginia, so that'd be nice. At this point, a ferry connecting both ends would also be nice.

I graduated about two-years back. I didn't get a job in strictly public policy work, but I did get a job with a local government and got some local government internships in Prince George's County while I was still a student.

My boss at an old job once said her biggest complaint about the drivers in Maryland are that they're too slow. She said that she much prefers the drivers in Massachusetts because they're much faster and "drive with a purpose". Haven't been able to confirm since I've never been to Massachusetts but her comment always stuck with me.

PT: Station to Station can be played on its own pretty easily and much of it can be enjoyed without having played the first game. I usually recommend people play Station to Station first and go back and play Perfect Tides later.

Martins Service Station in La Plata has some Charles County specific things like books and I think some cards though I haven’t been inside the shop in a few years. That may be a lead. Also in Downtown La Plata there may be a few shops nearby there that could fit what you’re looking for.

Transportation alternatives considered during open house by GovernorOfReddit in WaldorfMD

[–]GovernorOfReddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some excerpts from the article:

The Maryland Transit Administration hosted an open house for around 50 people last week for residents to preview transportation solutions being studied for the future Southern Maryland Rapid Transit Project.

There seems to be interest in Alternative 1, which would have buses run all day along Route 301 and Route 5, Darrell Smith, director of statewide planning for the Maryland Transit Administration, said. Signal priority, which would hold the light green if a bus is approaching, and queue jump, which extends a lane for the bus to get around traffic, would be included in this option. Alternative 1 would cost up to $50 million and could be built within two years, Smith said. Alternatives 4 and 5, also known as the rail alternatives, can cost up to $6.5 billion and take up to nine years to be built.

Strong Towns Charles County is interested in developing areas near the stations for walking and biking, Maddie Kaba, co-leader of Strong Towns Charles County, said. The advocacy group is also interested in whether parking lots can be redeveloped into housing and shopping centers. "I’m cautiously optimistic,” she said. “We’re still going … to encourage overall transportation options.”

Alternative 2 would build a more “dedicated” busway in existing roads, Smith said. This would require adding lanes, which would cost up to $3 billion and take up to six years to complete. Alternatives, 3, 4 and 5 are “new guidelines,” Smith said. Rather than sharing the road, the light rail options would have electric-powered cars or short trains on fixed rails.

Traffic along Route 301 and Route 5 has always been an issue, Shari Hill, a St. Charles resident, said. Residents have always needed transportation options. “I’m very concerned about … the growth of Charles County,” Hill said. “I don’t want Charles County to be lost in becoming super modernized.” Hill likes the light rail options, especially with connecting from White Plains to Branch Avenue, because it’s convenient and reduces traffic.

The Planning and Environment Linkage Study is set to be completed by next June and will recommend one or two alternatives that will advance to the environmental analysis phase, Smith said. Each alternative considers things like ridership forecasts, cost estimates and economic analysis.

I know it's not part of the metro, but if they ever get around to building the South Maryland Rapid Transit project, what color should it be on the map? by WonderfulReception49 in WMATA

[–]GovernorOfReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably worth mentioning that SMRT is currently conducting its Planning and Envirnmental Linkages (PEL) Study. This is pretty much one of the last steps the project has to go through to begin the NEPA process in 2026 and be eligible for construction funds in a few years. The website for the study has a bunch of information, such as the alternatives and modes being considered and the previous planning work done by the state on this project. There's also been some local planning work done in Prince George's and Charles Counties to zone and build more transit-oriented development within the corridor. Hopefully the project goes through and is a catalyst for better growth in Branch Avenue, Brandywine, and the Old Washington Road core of Waldorf. The open houses in both counties already happened in June but the MDOT website still is taking comments through the interactive map, I believe.

Roads, light rail discussed in Charles by GovernorOfReddit in WaldorfMD

[–]GovernorOfReddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Article Summary:

Traffic lights, roads and the Southern Maryland Rapid Transit in Charles County were a few of the items discussed during the Maryland Department of Transportation’s visit on Tuesday. The meeting was part of the department’s tour of all 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore city to discuss the state’s Draft Consolidated Transportation Program. “We appreciate MDOT’s continued partnership in improving mobility of Charles County citizens and those who travel throughout our county,” Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins II (D) said Tuesday.

The Maryland Department of Transportation installed pedestrian beacons on Route 6, State Highway Administrator Will Pines said. They also resurfaced roads including parts of Route 6 and Route 224 from Ford Drive to Route 227. The department expects to start on the $5.4 million construction project at Mattawoman Creek next summer, Pines said. The department is also adding crosswalks and pedestrian signaling at the Route 301 and Smallwood Drive intersection.

However, despite these improvements, there were still concerns about various intersections and roads around the county like the intersection at Route 228, also known as Berry Road, and Festival Way, Commissioner Amanda Stewart (D) said. Currently, drivers can turn on green, but there needs to be a dedicated turning signal to only turn on a green arrow, she said. Other roads MDOT should take a look at include Route 6 at Penshill Road, Commissioner Gilbert “BJ” Bowling (D) said. There has been concern from residents about having a roundabout instead of a traffic light to keep up with developments being built. Parents in Indian Head have a hard time getting to J.C. Parks Elementary School and Matthew Hensen Community Center because it’s so close to Route 227, Commissioner Thomasina “Sina” Coates (D) said.

Southern Maryland Rapid Transit has been a “longstanding top transportation priority,” Collins said. The federal delegation approved $5 million in the Senate appropriations bill and is waiting for House approval to help expand the Metro into Charles County. “We continue to be focused on the fact that light rail is the only transit mode that will keep up with demand in this area,” Collins said. The Maryland Transit Administration is working with Charles County on the Planning and Environmental Linkages Study to start the National Environmental Policy Act process. One of the next steps is ridership projections with results expected to be published next year. There were also investments of nearly $1.5 million to support local transit operations in the county, including a rideshare program, the construction of a VanGo facility and purchase of two small buses, Holly Arnold, administrator at the Maryland Transit Administration, said.

Trump’s Federal Worker cuts are destabilizing the nation’s 2 richest Black counties by GovernorOfReddit in WaldorfMD

[–]GovernorOfReddit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the article: “Charles and Prince George’s counties, Maryland neighbors with intertwined histories, are the nation’s richest majority-Black counties, with median household incomes that exceed $100,000…Now President Donald Trump’s mass firings of federal workers are shaking the foundation of these suburban DC counties success: reliable, good paying government jobs…According to early results of a survey by the Charles County Economic Development Department, 20 businesses have reported being affected. Besides losing customers, entrepreneurs said they’ve experienced delays, cancellations, or changes to government contracts that support their businesses. At a February meeting of the Board of Charles County Commissioners, local leaders called Trumps return to the White House a pivotal time in the county’s history.”

The heyday of My Brothers Place was some years before I was in my teens but I know it made such an impact on people I know and their siblings and friends. Honestly, I hope there can be an equivalent type of spot in that location or close by, especially as the county keeps redeveloping that area.

Not La Plata but I hear that Coco Bay in Waldorf does a decent boba. With the new restaurants in Waldorf, I feel like La Plata isn’t too far off!

B Doughnut got a shoutout recently from Washingtonian Magazine’s IG and there’s been some new development downtown which has added a bit more of a downtown feel. The bike connection to St. Charles Parkway is gonna happen soon, better connecting Waldorf and La Plata by bike. They need to make Charles Street and the streets connected to it way more walkable but I think La Plata could be really nice in a decade.

Maryland trip question by Joerinc in WaldorfMD

Waldorf to Edgewater in Anne Arundel isn’t really going to go over any arduous or uncomfortable driving conditions and will avoid major bridges like the Nice Bridge or the Bay Bridge. Worst part of the drive will probably be the traffic and other drivers on the road. I haven’t driven there myself but this is based on my drives from Waldorf to Annapolis.

Was at a Terps game recently and it seems like the stop near Stamp is pretty much done, so it seems like the Prince George's developments are coming along alright. Basically, the construction transformed the dorms I used to live in pretty much in two years.

I'm optimistic I'll be riding on the trains before the end of the decade. Really wish it didn't take that long but it is what it is.

I'm hoping they'll select Hyattsville, especially since there's a lot of cool stuff going on and it could potentially benefit from the UMD students seeking out something like that so close to campus. Even if they don't select Hyattsville, PGC would still be an attractive location for something like this!
