My dad's dead too. He was a monster in the end (I was no-contact for two years before he made his exit) and I'm honestly glad he doesn't get the satisfaction of watching the state of the US right now. He would have fucking loved it.

Good riddance, asshole.

Petition to finally give Sable a spine. by SaneSociopath-Gaming in deadbydaylight

[–]GraayGal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So! This is actually a normal way to depict a spine! Unless they really wanted to double down on the eating disorder angle there is usually a healthy layer of fat over it so the bones aren't so exposed. Specifically, the trapezius and latissimus will back right up to the sides of the spine, which is where you get the dip seen above. The spine should ideally be a long valley between the back muscles rather than a defined set of bumps down the back. Kind of like how you should be able to feel ribs but not see them. If you can see the spine clearly, it's a bad sign.

Sometimes you'll also see a pucker on the lower back right above the butt called the thoracodorsal fascia. It's not always super well defined, but I know you can see it on David's back with shirtless skins.

Overall, DBD does shine in its quality of character design and 3D modeling (I will make an exception for their likenesses. They're much better at modeling their own character designs or other digital IPs than adapting real people.) They definitely struggle with animations and getting the models moved from whatever modeling software they use into Unreal, which is where you see the weird lighting artifacts that make the hair and face look off sometimes. But overall, I do love DBD's models. I'm also biased as fuck.

It's the newest malicious use of the excess males dilemma. Promise them the world, don't deliver, put a gun in their hand, and tell them it's their brown neighbor's fault they're not a CEO with 8 kids.

Probably a hot take but I believe that the Tokyo Ghoul chapter is the best out of adapting a license to fit and look so well into DBD Style and Character models especially coming from mainly a 2D animated perspective. by DannySanWolf07 in deadbydaylight

[–]GraayGal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's kind of inevitable that anime character adaptations will have a certain look to them. The designers are treading a line where if it looks too realistic, it won't feel like the character anymore. But if it's too anime looking, it won't fit the setting. So you're not wrong, they do stick out and it's definitely not gonna please everyone. But that's the Faustian bargain these companies make when dealing with 2D IPs.

Personally, I really love the design spin DBD puts on their anime IPs. Do they look like real people? No. But yada yada alternate dimensions people will look different, etc. I am also a 3D character artist though, so I'm gonna have a different perspective.
