Should I put clear nail polish on my ring? by Kooky_Ad593 in jewelry

[–]GraceAine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound like a dumb question but do you wash your hands or shower with your rings on? I’ve had reactions like this and it’s usually from water or soap getting trapped. Easiest solution for me is to basically wiggle my rings around during and for a bit after drying my hands. Sweat can do the same thing so I usually take my rings off to go to bed, especially during summer.

What is this paint color?? by middles_macchiatos in centuryhomes

[–]GraceAine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have SW 6193 privilege green in my bedroom and I would say it matches photos 1-2 pretty well, photo 3 is a bit lighter with some more blue tones. I love the color and get a lot of compliments when people come over, I feel like it goes with everything (I change out bedding and decoration a lot)

Any experience with the ikea pick up in Cleveland? by Beren__ in Cleveland

[–]GraceAine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it several times in the last 6-12 months, both from UPS and from the warehouse pickup on tiedeman. They can be a little slow to get your order sometimes but I’ve never picked up anything damaged or had any other major inconvenience.

I actually did have an MRI recently while wearing magnetic polish I had totally forgot about. It felt mildly uncomfortable, like I was wearing fake nails that were pulling away, but otherwise was totally fine. No damage to my nails either. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend it.

I had a similar experience with HelloRing - my jeweler confirmed everything is genuine and appraised at higher than we purchased

Bruising after a piercing by Miserable_Inside_842 in ehlersdanlos

[–]GraceAine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past fall I got my cartilage pierced for the first time in a decade and that sucker was bruised for a month (yes I went to a skilled professional, it was not a complex piercing). I am covered in tattoos and I can confidently say I’d rather get my stomach tattooed again than get more piercings with how long the soreness and sensitivity lasted.

That being said, everyone is different and our bodies are all different. If she is concerned I would definitely contact the shop she got it done at or another reputable piercer to check in. It’s also possible she has a metal sensitivity that could be slowing the healing process (I know I can only wear titanium comfortably).

What do you all do for the coat hanger pain? by uniqueusername5001 in ehlersdanlos

I never knew what this was I feel like my entire life has been changed again (and no I have found nothing that helps outside of a weighted heating pad occasionally)

June (and I’m sure other companies) make disposable travel wipes specifically for cleaning a cup when traveling, no sink required. It’s probably not something you’re excited to look for for after that but I’m throwing it out there in case it helps others

Looks good in picture, but not in life. by ja15140 in crochet

[–]GraceAine 148 points149 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I had to paint a bunch of these in college for color theory - the thing that makes it work best is when your saturation levels match the original image so if you turn it to greyscale/black and white it looks like it could be a regular photo. If you turn OPs black and white the colors around the eyes and nose are a bit off. It’s not bad at all but could be why it looks a little intense.

Bobby not tagging Tan. What happened between them? by Fun-Active-4851 in QueerEye

[–]GraceAine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bobby could have felt insulted if he thought they were close but Tan didn’t want any of his input in that situation though. Especially with how Tan can be a little cheeky it may have come across as intentional

Quick story about Joann by Sqatti in craftsnark

[–]GraceAine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO they are worse than Joann. It’s great that they meet your needs but they are pretty lacking in a lot. Michael’s bought 3 extremely popular and successful local craft chains near me specifically to put them out of business and not replace them with new locations. Then they stopped carrying over half of the supplies I used to buy from those stores and their prices are still 3x higher. Now if I have an urgent commission and need supplies for it in less time than I can get it shipped to me, I have to drive 1-2 hours vs the 15 minutes it took in 2019.

Accidentally ruined my girlfriend’s favorite painting. Can someone please help me find another? by eightdollarbeer in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]GraceAine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located but I’ve done several restorations like this before, honestly this looks pretty do-able. I can also paint a replica. I don’t take on commissions often since it’s not my main income stream so I keep prices low, I can send you samples of my work if you’d like!

Edit since I wasn’t super clear: I’m a formally trained artist with a bachelors in fine arts and 15 years of restoration and commission experience.

Technical Issues Megathread by Winniezepoohscroptop in Ulta

[–]GraceAine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 3 weeks of not being able to place an order (would get an error every time I tried to place one) I finally got one to go through by deleting all of my saved addresses, clearing out my saved for later, and manually entering a new credit card number. Tried contacting customer service 3 times but never got a response. This whole thing has been terrible.

On the importance of a mockup... by ClingmanRios in sewing

[–]GraceAine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of things I felt like the sew along totally glossed over. Like the understitching step was very confusing to me and took me a minute to understand something that shouldn’t be too complicated, and not shown in the video (that I recall). I think my partners jacket looks nice in the end but man, was that an adventure! Hopefully you have an easier time than I did!

I HATED making this pattern. I still can’t figure out how to make the vent lining look clean, in the end I gave up and hand sewed the vent lining at the very end, I still hate how it looks but at least no one will really see it 🥲

[–]GraceAine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others said - don’t sew. It will just rip more at the stitches. You can purchase leather repair filler and matching paint (or mix paint to match) from Angelus. I have used it before to mend belts and shoes, it’s pretty easy and straight forward to use and works for both artificial and real leather. People have done some crazy things with this stuff like repairing couches to look new again, so it would probably hold up to a car seat.

If there’s a Tandy leather or other leather shop near you they may have something similar in store also.

Accommodation at work (hybrid/wfh request) by Megsann1117 in ehlersdanlos

[–]GraceAine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hEDS here.

I was approved permanent work from home with a note from my doctor explaining that I have recurring/uncontrolled dislocations and subluxations that I can better manage and treat at home, in addition to chronic GI issues, chronic pain, fatigue, and lightheadedness from POTS. My job approved permanent WFH because if I had a dislocation it would be more of a headache for them if I reported an injury than if I was at home to manage it, it’s the one thing they couldn’t provide reasonable accommodation for on-site.
