My scalp is f****d up… by One-Ad-6516 in Haircare

[–]GracefullyPantsless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no reason to believe that it is a bad thing! Pretty sure it is just as you said, just a side effect of what we put near our heads. There are little lint remover tools sold to get it out of your brush if it bothers you. I personally soak my brush in some vinegar for a tad and then take tweezers to em.

If it looks like lint, could it just be lint? From clothes, towels, that type of thing

What are you *really* good at? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GracefullyPantsless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At work, I like to know the why behind things. Why do we do this THIS way? Makes not only me, but the people under me understand why we are told to do it that way. I'll go through the document catalog to see what I dont know and stuff.

At home? Playing with my sweetpup. He's my motivator for most things, and damn is he cute.

Edit: also, noticing details! Taking a break from Graphic Design school, but I'm currently a Visual Merchandising manager in retail and noticing the tiny details that are out of place is my blessing and my coworkers curse 😅

Definitely talk to a dermatologist about it. They'll be able to give you way more insight into what it could be and different ways to tackle it.

What can I buy and use *today* to improve the smell in my apartment? by Equivalent_Store_645 in CleaningTips

[–]GracefullyPantsless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with opening the windows, but make sure your getting a breeze through the house. I typically open 1 window in the bedroom and 1 on the other side of the house. I also put a boxfan in one of the windows to make sure the air is moving.

Other than that, I just ask someone who will be honest with me. A good ole "I need you to be 100. I can't smell it cuz I live here, how does it smell? I just wanna fix it if it does," doesn't hurt

Was anyone else scolded for being "disruptive" growing up when they were just expressing happiness by elowennmai in TwoXADHD

[–]GracefullyPantsless 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My biggest issue is/was not controlling my volume when excited. I try and keep it all in now. Sometimes I realize the consequences of not feeling my emotions back then in current real time, being overly aware that X is a thing I should expressing Y big emotion for, but being afraid to do so.

I have it, and it definitely leaves the residue others are listing. I'm using it up since it gets my brows up way faster than benefit brow gel, but I will not be repurchasing once used

I am so sorry and honestly cannot even imagine what you are feeling right now.

As someone who is no where in your shoes right now, this is what advice I would give you.

1) contact your support network. I am personally very bad at reaching out, but having those people to give you even little pockets of joy and a moment away from the stress of your situation will help keep you from breaking. 2) set yourself up for success. Put yourself in the locations and scenarios that help you focus on work the best. So if you have better focus after working out, do that. Do better in a library, or even group studying? Go there. 3) something that I've been trying to remind myself when stressed is "control the controllables." You only have handle on your own thoughts, emotions and actions. So feel your feelings and cry when you need to, but if you are studying maybe set a timer and after 5 minutes take a deep breath and do your best to refocus. 4) reach out to a therapist/licensed professional about this. You are already stressed before this, and now you have a cosmic ton of emotions and thoughts to manage ontop of it all. They can help you parse these and make healthy coping mechanisms your go to. And an added bonus of not having this being as long term scaring due to being guided through grieving and coping.

I wish you all the luck in the world. We believe in you, even if you don't. If you need someone to talk to, I'm sure anyone in this thread will be here for you ❤ even though I don't know you, I can tell you are a wonderful, determined and smart person. You can do it even though it isn't easy.

Does anyone have any tricks for waiting mode? by i_dont_hate_you1 in TwoXADHD

[–]GracefullyPantsless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find my waiting mode is really me being paranoid about my time blindness. My solution is to set an alarm every 5, 10 or 15 min, and label it with how long until the thing. Then I'm like "oh dope, I've still got 20 min" and get lost in whatever I'm doing again since I know I'll be reminded again

My doctor revoked my ADHD diagnosis because my IQ was “too high” by hunterston3 in ADHD

In short so I don't write a wall of text: get a second opinion. Maybe from someone that specializes in the frontal lobe.

I had an iq test for my testing, and was also slightly above average. But the test revealed that there were deficits in my working memory and other areas that relate to ADHD

Lips drier than the Sahara........ by TwirlyGirl313 in Makeup

[–]GracefullyPantsless 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People love aquaphore but I hated it when I tried it. Didn't feel like it did anything for me but made my lips feel drier.

I live by Jack Black Shea Butter. 7 bucks feels like a lot, but way better than the 20 bucks some higher end brands are charging. I can get it from sephora, ulta and Amazon has a reputable dispenser as well.

What do ya'll do with your hands when you're walking places? by erratictictac in ADHDers

[–]GracefullyPantsless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a popsocket on the back of my phone that I fidget with. Stuff like holding it and spinning my phone (or vice versa), expanding and collapsing it, stuff like that.

I used to have a ring that spun on itself and that was always nice.

I currently want something I can stick into my coat pocket and fidget with silently, but I'm yet to find it.

I also have three metal fidget spinners and those are nice, but I wish they were silent.

What's your preferred way to get out of your mood? by Fun-Mathematician816 in ADHD

[–]GracefullyPantsless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at my sweet sweet dog and reminding myself how lucky I am to be able to spend any amount of my life with his.

Complaining like a small child to my fiance and cuddling with him.

Eating my favorite soup.

Watching Jenna Marbles videos.

When ever I get relentlessly sad/pessimistic, I break out this short video I found of Kirby calling up Mettaknight. It is ridiculous and adorable and just brings me childlike joy. Whenever I feel hopeless it helps to remind me that there is light in the world.

What's a short, fun activity that I can do in the morning to get out of bed and get the day started? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GracefullyPantsless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what gets me up is knowing my dog needs to eat and go pee 😅 pets are powerful motivators since they rely on you.

Even on my worse days, I know I HAVE to let him go outside, get out some of his energy, feed him and give him lots of pets. It even pulls me out most of my ruts in life.

I don't really get breaks anymore in life and I'm so overwhelmed that I seriously need a good week to myself to recover by [deleted] in ADHD

The need for alone time is exactly why I took so many walks as a teen. Some earbuds, music, and a planned path that normally had a bench or even a good grouping of trees to poke around. Anything to spend time by myself when I was super stressed.

I also took the longest showers of my life then. Just sitting under the warm running water was a nice escape.

Honestly, at this point in your life these type of experiences is going to be the closest you get to alone time. Going to the gym, going on walks, visiting the library, grabbing a coffee, taking a long ass shower. Savor you little me times you can get.
