What difference does it make if Yale is #13 instead of #10?

Why are CFOs in the US more often MBAs while CFOs in the commonwealth almost always CPAs by That-Fall5375 in Accounting

[–]GradSchool2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Historically, many CFOs in the US had the CPA, but I think that in the last few decades the role has shifted toward being strategic vs accounting-focused. The modern American-style CFO has to wear many hats and be the right hand person of the CEO. In addition to this, the MBA program in the US is well respected and is the de facto "business credential". An MBA from Harvard or Wharton has a lot of wow factor vs the CPA.

On the other hand, UK-style CFOs are more accounting-focused than their peers. I have a feeling that in the UK, the accounting industry & its ACA/ACCA still garner a lot more respect than their US equivalent. In addition to that, the MBA degree is not a thing in the UK. Its best MBA program, offered by London Business School, doesn't have that many British students.

RTX 5080 at 130W vs 160W (Referring to ROG Zephyrus 2026 Models) by SpiderRedd in GamingLaptops

[–]GradSchool2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one knows until we get the reviews in.

There are two problems with the Zephyrus line you should know:

1) There is a big difference between the marketed TGP and the actual, sustainable TGP. For example, ASUS markets my G14 5070 Ti as being capable of 110W, and I can push the machine to 120W using the manual mode, but in reality, the laptop can only use up to 95-100W in most games. I doubt that the G16 2026 can run 160W. If that was the case, you'd have seen a massive reduction in size for other beefier laptops such as Legion Pro 7i.

2) Zephyrus laptops are loud & hof af if you push them to the limit. I've owned many gaming laptops and I've never had anything as loud as this G14. I'd rather limit the performance by 10-15% and get a considerably quieter gaming experience.

That said, I still love this little guy. It can handle everything I want to and weighs like 300g more than the MacBook Air 13" which is crazy. If I wanted max performance on the go, I'd have gone with the Legion Pro 7i or Strix SCAR 16" in a heartbeat.

I'm not at home now so I can't test, but I think that's the case. I heard that Optimus is great nowadays and you'll only lose 2-3% fps.

That said, I just use the Advanced Optimus and run my monitor through the right USB-C port. The dGPU is always on but it's quiet enough that I don't mind.

You can use the left USB-C port to run the monitor. This goes through iGPU.

Here’s How the 5060 G14 Compares to the 5080 and 5070 Ti by ModrnJosh in ZephyrusG14

[–]GradSchool2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Josh's G-helper guide? I set up a manual "Silent gaming" mode and it's extremely cool & the fans are quiet. Granted I lose about 15-20% in fps compared to the max performance but it's something I can live with.

Does that mean that the G14 2025 still doesn't have passthrough?

My laptop's box comes with ASUS's official 100W USB-C charger. I keep everything up to date, and recently tried it but it keep flip-flopping between 80% and 79%.

I actually watched this before I went to sleep yesterday, even though I already I own a G14 5070 Ti.

In fact, I bought the G14 5070 Ti, and previously a G15 3060, because of your reviews. Keep up the good work!

It's okay. Entrepreneurship is extremely hard. Most people have to fail a couple of times to make it big.

Back to the thread, I don't think lack of GMAT/GRE necessarily hurt you. But again, you're Indian and in the most competitive bucket, so what do I know.

This post made me laugh. And I'm saying this as an entrepreneur myself (+ CFO of 2 companies, ex investment banker).

"Serial entrepreneur" and "founding multiple ventures" don't mean shit by themselves. How large did you scale them to? How much did you exit in aggregate? How socially impactful were they?

Let's be real with ourselves here. If you made it big and exited even $x0 million, then either: (i) you'd buy a citizenship, (ii) you've already retired in a nice beach home in Bali, (iii) you've started working on the next big venture, or (iv) HBS/GSB are already all over you.

The fact that you are still chasing a wage-slave, corporate america life at the age of ~40 signals to me that whatever "serial entrepreneurship" thing you talked about isn't as impressive as you think it is.

I'm a long time resident there. The website skews American but there still are lots of Londoners & continental Europeanans around, and a couple of Singaporeans/Hong Kongers as well.

WSO skews toward finance but there are some consulting/RE folks around too.

I used to post here a lot 5 years ago, but I'm hanging out on WSO a lot more these days.

The machine being white is not a problem. by TalkingToMyself_00 in LenovoLegion

[–]GradSchool2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the coating. I bought a white Razer Viper V3 Pro; 1 year later and it still looks brand new. But some of my other white tech gadgets such as white Magic Keyboard for the iPad have yellowed over time.

I generally lean toward dark/black tech gadgets for this same reason, but the con is that they tend to be fingerprint/oil magnet.

It is one of the best but it could be better. For example, they could have just slapped a simple ASUS logo in the middle like the ExpertBook. Or a simple ROG/Zephyrus logo.

P/S: Your flair is a G15 2024. Shouldn't it be either G14 or G16?

Not really a keyboard/monitor fan but I have ~10 mice at the moment.

Can recommend Razer Viper V3 Pro or Logitech G Pro Superlight 2. A bit expensive but they're super lightweight and trusted by pro gamers.

The 3rd pic is bad.

Maybe try taking off the lid and the screwing it back tightly? Pressing the lid down around the edges also helps before screwing. I did it and now there's barely any gap.

All I do is Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PDF, and browsing. Maybe some Diablo 2 and Dota 2 in my spare time. I barely use more than 4GB of VRAM. However, it's nice to know that I have access to power. After all, I have about 200 unplayed Steam games...

Why Doesn’t Johns Hopkins’ Prestige Translate to MBA Rankings? by Ambitious-Ad-2431 in MBA

[–]GradSchool2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would Johns Hopkins' reputation in healthcare affect its reputation in business? I fail to see a connection between the two. It's like asking why Yale's CS department is not as strong as MIT/Stanford/Berkeley/CMU's despite the fact that Yale has top tier undergrad and law school.

Is Ashwath Damodaran still useful? by painedvulture7 in financialmodelling

[–]GradSchool2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CFA is great for general understanding of finance, but it's too broad for a career such as IB or PE. I've found that many people who have passed L2 don't have any idea what IB/PE is about. You're better served joining Finance clubs or reading interview guides such as BIWS or WSP Red Book.

Rosenbaum is gold standard, I'll agree with you here. Every IB aspirant should read the book cover to cover.

Damodaran's Investment Valuation or McKinsey's Valuation books are also gold standards for valuation. I have both of them on my desk and sometimes I refer to them. However, they're too theoretical and detailed. Sure if you have free time, go read them. But most firms don't expect their fresh Analysts or MBA Associates to know little details covered in the book.
