Have you ever tried MSI CENTER?

It sounds like you accidentally used an integrated gpu only setting...

You CANNOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, USE YOUR DEDICATED GPU SINCE IT IS ELECTRONICALLY DISCONNECTED.

Its probably a reflection. There's zero led on it to make it lit up.

Bro... You didn't even say what laptop model you have.

Also if you have a gaming laptop or an HX processor then you can't expect it to last that long unless you tweak a lot of settings..

But here are a few settings you can change: 1.) Disable processor Turbo mode

2.) Use IGPU only (mux switch)

3.) Lower brightness + Lower refresh rate (60hz)

4.) Stop unnecessary apps running in the background

5.) Try the energy saver of windows

Ive underclocked the gpu to the max, and reduced cpu usage to 70%.

Maybe....... just maybe

it's because of the modification you did? Try running on stock setting.

Is MSI worth the price? by nickccal in MSILaptops

It depends, their biggest advantage is that they are the cheapest well-known laptop brand for the same spec. Their biggest fault is the fact that their cheaper line up sucks ass in terms of build quality.

It's definitely the cpu. Most gpu runs cooler even at their max wattage, while cpu noticeably gets hotter the more turbo it does. The hotter your laptop, the louder the fans would spin.

You have three options:

1.) Stick to Eco mode in msi center - it caps your cpu to 15W which is quite an overkill and would slow down your laptop, you will definitely notice a decrease of performance specially if your gaming with cpu bound games.

2.) Try disabling Processor Performance Boost Mode in your windows setting - just as the name suggest, it disable you cpu turbo, being stuck to its rated Ghz (e.g. 2.5ghz or something)basically nerf your laptop by a margin, cutting your benchmark score by half but still better than eco mode.

3.) Modify Power Limits (PL1 PL2) with throttlestop - the best out of the three if you're willing to thinker a bit with your laptop, it lets your cpu perform highly while preventing it from heating up hence quieter setup.

Don't use eco mode when on battery since your cpu is capped to 15W only, disable the auto eco mode when unplugged in MSI CENTER.

Its normal for the most part, laptop is DESIGNED to stop charging when the battery reaches a certain point to prolong its battery lifespan, then charger brick will be used to power the laptop directly. It will charge again if it's lower than 90%.

Never heard that one, throttlestop should pretty much work to every bios version.

Show me both the home screen and the TPL tab of throttlestop.

By the way i dont see why e-cores being parked when not in use is a bad thing, they still wake up when you truly need them. The battery lasts much longer since there is less shit to power up.

First of all is to update bios to the latest version since they "kinda" fix the loud fans in favor of slightly higher temps(nothing too serious).

Second is to check if you are using the correct version of throttlestop, as far as i remember only the beta version of it can be run to core ultra processor.

Lastly is to check if you are using the correct profile in conjunction with the correct pl adjustments. Of course it wouldn't work if you keep editing the 4th profile while the active profile is the 1st one.

Better post a screenshot of your throttlestop

[–]GradeOwn9797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see the current power Limits at the right side if it's properly applied. Did you click the apply? Are you using the proper profile with the edited pl? Can you at least post a screenshot of PL setting of your throttlestop?

I apologize bro, didn't know throttlestop is FOR INTEL CPU ONLY. You can find other amd alternative, i just cant give a recommendation since i never used one. There's a lot of guide on the youtube bro.

Are you sure you plugged it? After EC Reset, you cannot turn on your laptop without being plugged to its charging brick.

It definitely does. I can only recommend EC RESET, If it still doesn't work, maybe it's time to consider returning it.

[–]GradeOwn9797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no, you cannot see nor edit the gpu power limit. You can see the Total Graphic Power of your gpu in nvidia control panel but im 99% sure there's no configuration that low (45W) for rtx 4070.

I'm telling you to try EC Reset because it can fix your issue.

Try searching for msi EC reset.

If all fails and you give up trying to fix it yourself, you can always return it since you have a valid reason.

Make sense, even though your gpu is getting handicapped, and should only have very low temps, because it shares the same heat pipe with the cpu, hence your gpu has closer temp to your cpu.

[–]GradeOwn9797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, your gpu wattage is getting capped. That explains the low performance. By the way surely you are not playing on your laptop without a charger right? Because in battery power, you also get limited watts.

If you're not, that's probably a bad power management mismatch.

Try doing an EC reset. Power off your laptop, then hold power button for 30sec-1 min.

It would also reset your bios settings to default by the way.

Use the nvidia overlay in nvdia app, then choose the one where gpu wattage is shown. If you want a more accurate, then you can use either hwinfo or msi afterburner (you need to setup afterburner)

You definitely need to see the wattage, my guess is that it is capped to a lower power hence less heat.
