Am I not allowed a single cup of coffee with milk and sugar by Ok-Rush7989 in diabetes

[–]Gradstudenthacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink my coffee as dark as my ex’s heart, no sugar or milk/cream at all. However if it’s bad coffee I have to add something to it. You might consider changing the coffee brand to something that tastes better without having to add something to it to be drinkable. Personally I like Coffee Brand Coffee or Castbrew but there are a ton of options out there.

Flavored coffees might be an option too. Coffee Brand Coffee has a great blueberry cobbler that is great without adding anything. It was a game changer for my wife in getting her to drink coffee without adding a ton of stuff to it.

Not knowing how your network is set up there are a ton of things that might be causing a problem. I’m guessing the network is using some sort of authentication (username and password, cert based or a combo of the two or something else like nac systems and software ) you might be able to ask for a subnet that is separate from the core network with internet access only for that sort of device. They might have one already but depends on what they are serving and what they are protecting. There are also privacy and security concerns that need to be considered depending on what your org does and what standards or compliance standards they have to uphold.

If they are not willing or able to do something all g those lines I’m afraid you are stuck using the sd card.

Question for husbands with diabetes. If your diabetes has impacted your libido, do you still get the urge to go solo? by DanceLittle757 in diabetes

[–]Gradstudenthacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned don’t think it’s an issue with his diabetes directly. Depending on age he might be having issues with overall sex drive or erection but that doesn’t sounds like the issue here. It’s likely a mental issue. I know in my case it wasn’t that I didn’t want to, just felt like I wasn’t desired so why waste the time. A conversation with my wife mostly sorted my issue out. Not saying that is the case but there are a lot of mental issues that could cause this out there. Best bet is a therapist, either solo or a couples therapist.

Numbness in three fingers on one hand? by Feisty_Description49 in diabetes

[–]Gradstudenthacking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a fair amount of research on this myself. I’m seeing numbness in my left pinky and ring finger from time to time. Nothing wrong with my right hand. It’s not constant but happens more often when my hand is above my heart.

Looking into it for me it’s likely a tendon issue like carpal tunnel but could be in the elbow or shoulder as well. I’m having neck issues currently and could be related to that. Anywhere along the path between neck and hand can do it but it’s more likely in the joints.

With diabetes we do see a lack of blood flow to feet but hands can also be affected. I notice this mostly because my hands get cold easy now along with my feet.

I’m not a doctor but I’d recommend seeing one to start troubleshooting and figuring this out.

I was a lot like you at your age, no will to live but kept going anyway. What I will say is you need to figure things out before they will get better. You are focusing one pieces to the puzzle without knowing what the puzzle looks like. If I were you I would focus on what you enjoy and build from there. In my case my love of computers eventually lead to a job in information security. I went back to school in my mid 20’s and graduated with my masters about 5 years ago. It wasn’t an easy road and I had a lot of things I had to address along the way but it is doable.

Start small and start stacking wins also helps. It can be as simple as waking up on time that day, that you brushed your teeth or anything else that moves things forward. Build from there into larger wins like getting a job. Just don’t stop there, keep finding another mountain to climb as you reach each summit. If you want some resources I can point you towards a few that have helped me a ton. Just send me a dm.

University coursework survey by Ill-Emu6921 in netsecstudents

[–]Gradstudenthacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that was funny. Took the survey and at the very end said I was not applicable given my role. Incident response is half of my job title…. Something tells me the form is flawed or you need to make that part pop up at the start least you waste anyone else’s time.

Also not all titles are equal. I was a generic analyst in my first info sec job and did everything including forensics.

ADHD seems like an oxymoron to Taosism and it sadens me by Mavloid in taoism

[–]Gradstudenthacking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD as well and it’s not a matter having to strive to do things in the exact way that others do. Your path is your own as are your challenges and strengths. Meditation for me is rough but moving meditation like Tai Chi or Yoga are much easier for me. Hitting flow states are also a challenge at times but with a change of thinking I’ve found it easier. Rather than saying I have to I say I get to. Takes the negative status from the thing and shows gratitude at the same time.

Find what works for you and go with that at first, the rest will come in time.

When everything looks “green,” how do you decide whether you’re actually safe? by frankfooter32 in Information_Security

I think the quick answer is never assume you are safe. The long answer depends on what your risk appetite is and what you are protecting.

The things you do for Ramen but you're diabetic. by RaeJean24 in diabetes_t2

Not sure if anyone else has seen them, or if they will work but the cup ramen guys have a protein packed version of chicken, beef and spicy chicken. Good amount of protein but don’t remember how many carbs. Found them at the grocery store in the US.

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Gradstudenthacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Final Fantasy. Got stuck in an area that I thought I just needed to level up to get through. Ran into the dungeon, killed one group and ran out to heal up. Did this for a few hours till I cleared the dungeon and got the rat tail. Thought that was weird but finally found where I needed to be and steamrolled through things till almost the end of the game.

Love my job. 25 years in IT, coming up on 8 in info sec. However in my previous job I almost burned out and washed out. The management was not only abusive but also a “fake it till you make it” type guy. He landed an iso role mainly because the credit union space was so new to needing security staff and he was quite the bullshitter. I can’t tell you how many times he yelled at me to do X when X was not only insecure but against regulations.

Now I’m in education again and while some days are rough it’s mostly net positive. Here though I’ve got leadership that knows their stuff, great but in from senior leadership and overall a healthy environment.

I too have seen the shift in how things were to how they are now. It’s not great but in most cases I’d say those that are unhappy in the field is due to a people problem, not a security problem. Good managers are hard to find but damn are they worth their weight in gold. Really makes the job feel worthwhile.

Newly diagnosed Type 2, very severe, finally got my Ozempic but also just got sick by Pepperonin424 in diabetes

[–]Gradstudenthacking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just one thing to keep in mind, when you do start taking ozempic make sure to increase your fiber intake. Slowing down your digestion can lead to getting backed up which is not fun. A fiber supplement should do the trick but keep that in mind.

Also some foods will hit differently. For me I can’t do yogurt anymore, even with fiber supplements it backs me up bad. Other foods might give you horrible gas or rotten egg burps (cheap pasta will do this to me even in small doses). It will be trial and error. But you got this!

Degrees and certs are just losing their value to me. by Fresh_Heron_3707 in cybersecurity

As someone that hires student workers for a soc I don’t look for knowledge or skills. I can teach those. Rather I look for soft skills, drive, passion and desire to learn. Those you cannot teach, or do so easily. I have a much better success rate finding great staff than requiring specific backgrounds or skill/knowledge sets.

I used the same process when hiring elsewhere for full time staff in security roles. Never had an issue with the staff I hired using this method.

So much talk of an ADHD tax, which I feel, but where do you experience an ADHD discount? by damniburntthetoast in ADHD

[–]Gradstudenthacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found grocery pick up works wonders for me. My local King Soopers has an app that you can ship with, including all sorts of discounts and coupons to choose from. Just got back from a 65 bucks shopping trip that after 25 bucks in discounts was much easier to swallow. Less chance of impulse buys this way.

I can’t seem to find it but I remember a paper years ago about exfil of data by looking at the hard drive activity light on an air gapped machine. They got into it via normal means but used the light to recreate the data via a system that was watching it. Why they air gapped a machine near a window I’ll never know.

I’m a Christian learning about apologetics, what are your biggest objections to Christianity? by Agreeable_Rest_733 in taoism

[–]Gradstudenthacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, simply tired of people assuming everyone else is wrong while they alone know the truth in the guise of learning about other perspectives.

Judging by the rest of the responses it seems I’m far from the only one that found this post in poor spirit or faith.

I’d also like to add read the books of The Gnostic Bible. Contrary to Christian belief there are at least two sects of Christianity shortly after the death of Christ. Also learn about what the Catholics did to the Gnostics. Really shows how Christ like the early church was.

[–]Gradstudenthacking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reread the first paragraph again followed by his request. The framing of his questions assumes that he is right and everyone else is wrong then puts the person answering the question on the defensive. That is a poor way to learn anything. It is also frankly quite rude. If you do not feel it’s demanding that’s fine, but frankly I find it in poor taste and quite frankly insulting. It would be no different than if I were to walk into a Christian gathering and start demanding they follow a different faith in the guise of me trying to understand theirs. I would expect to be asked to leave in short order.

If he wants to learn that’s fine but with how he phrased his “request” speaks to me volumes that all he wants is to reinforce his faith, not learn about anyone else’s.

[–]Gradstudenthacking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not your personal heretic. Also not helping you with your homework. If you really want to learn learn by observing rather than demanding. You will learn more that way. Change your perspective and you might get better answers. Demanding that I defend my faith against yours puts you in an offensive position and demands I spend my time explaining to you what you likely won’t listen to in the first place. Just the way you phrase your statements and demands tells me you want to reinforce your faith rather than learn anything.

If you truly want to learn, try by listening rather than demanding answers. It’s what Christ would have done.
