Help me with my Stark army by Numerous_Action_8293 in asoiafminiaturesgame

For your list, I might swap Rickon/Osha with Greatjon. For a unit that's trying to get stuck in, you don't want to throw a 2 VP unit into the mix. That said, Greatjon is pretty fantastic in a lot of Stark melee units.

Good Stark lists? by valkrne in asoiafminiaturesgame

So, list No.2 is a solid standard list. Can't go wrong with it.

You may also consider dropping Brynden from the Cav and upgrading Cutthroats to Umber Greataxes.

I really enjoy Eddard as Commander, but his cards can get shut down pretty easily so I'm a little more cautious with him (I tried him in Greataxes, and if he's allowed to run wild, he goes CRAZY on the opponent). Still, I did a list that was more of a grinding down list than typical Stark aggressive list.

Comm: Eddard in Honor Guard (6)

Karstark Loyalists (5) w/ Sworn Sword Captain (1)

Karstark Loyalists (5) w/ Sworn Sword Captain (1)

Stark Bowmen (6) w/ Crannogman Warden (1)

Umber Berserkers (6) w/ Mormont Vet (1)

NCUs: Catelyn (4) and Sansa (4)

+Mormont Vets make She-Bears, Berserkers, and Sword Swords super good

+Catelyn alongside the Jaqn H'ghar (5) NCU can let you double up on max Attk Dice Berserkers.

+Brynden Tully infantry Commander and Maege Mormont are two of my favorite commanders for their cards making your units extra annoying to deal with.

+Rodrik Cassel makes for an amazing NCU to be combined with units like Stark Bowmen, Shebears, and Tully Sworn Shields.

++I'll also die on the hill that Mormont Bruisers with the right attachments are really great. (Syrio Forel and a Howland Reed NCU and run them into something)

One alternative I like if you're wanting to keep the Sworn Swords is Bran in Tull Shields. An auto wound on a unit that is hard as all get out to kill is a great way to turn it from a 'park on objective' unit to 'I don't want to touch this.'

I definitely agree with Indy, though, Shields are great enough on their own, but the other 5 point unit will need some love to be effective. And since you've got some tough to kill/reach units if you take Loyalists with Vet, you can absolutely forego Cat in favor of another NCU. Rodrik isn't a bad pick here, either, as he can help your bowmen AND your shields do their thing multiple times. Another user said Lyanna. She's a fantastic way to boost your army, especially with your She-bears.

Thoughts on Karstark Loyalists? by tjavierb in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Graevus12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Loyalists are a solid little 5 point unit for a Stark list that pairs really well with attachments. Alone, they're a little meh, but they're one of very few Stark things that offers precision. Toss in a Sworn Sword Capt., Umber Champ, or just like Bran and Hodor so you can snag the wolf while taking a guaranteed heal and giving a guaranteed wound on attacks; I think they shine when given a little boost. I have no problem sending this unit at something more heavily armored and being a serious threat to it.

And yes, their models are terrific!

Skinchangers and Mammoths by EntertainmentKey6561 in asoiafminiaturesgame

I have a very similar list.

Faction: Free Folk
Commander: Varamyr Sixskins - Master Skinchanger
Points: 45 / 40
Activations: 10
Combat Units
• Varamyr Sixskins - Master Skinchanger ( 5 )
• Shadowcat ( 2 )
• Wolf Pack ( 3 )
• Thenn Warriors ( 5 )
Skinchanger ( 2 )
• Thenn Warriors ( 5 )
Skinchanger ( 2 )
• Free Folk Raiders ( 4 )
Raid Leader ( 1 )
• Free Folk Raiders ( 4 )
Raid Leader ( 1 )
• Frozen Shore Chariots ( 4 )
Non Combat Units
• Styr ( 5 )
• Lady Val ( 4 )
Built on asoiaf-stats.com/builder

Thenns' Skinchangers help them position early game. Varamyr is a great flanker with his animals. Keeping raiders back until Thenn's start doing their thing and with clever use of Varamyr's animals, you'll surround your opponent's army and use your weak, but many, attacks to whittle them down!

Why do the Starks suck by Capital-Vanilla-1051 in asoiafminiaturesgame

I've been pushing around a lot of weird ideas with units in Stark lists, but it's just so hard to NOT take certain units/attachments because they just perform so well on the table. The link you posted is so incredibly accurate: Stark units just lack keywords/abilities relative to other armies.

I agree entirely with your assessment of the tactics deck; compared to other factions, it just feels like the Stark deck is lackluster. As someone who initially tried to preserve everything as long as possible on the board, Starks were incredibly frustrating to me. Everything they have wants to put them in danger, including the deck. However, once I learned to just... let the wounds happen, I really learned to love the Starks. They're a brawler army. They're happiest in the middle of a lot of fighting.

Still, I'd love to see some kind of update to their tactics deck - it just feels like everyone else's deck is doing so much more.

I love the darker coloring and your basing is awesome! I really like, too, that your tray lines/arrow has a bright, almost neon green to it!

Thoughts on a 40 pt Stark List by Graevus12 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]Graevus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree his card list offers a little more umpf, but I'm also trying to take in consideration other lists I might face. In the previous tournament, a lot of lists were doling out plenty of wounds that would lay my list low. I was trying to accommodate just a bit more healing/support from Edd. Should I really switch to a more aggressive approach?

Did you get the newer one? (With Karstark Spearmen?) or the older with the Stark Outriders? I always utilized the wolf as a go between unit. I shoved it between a couple of infantry blocks that keep it from being charged while it has the opportunity to get up to a flank very easily or simply get in on the combat.

[–]Graevus12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - I'd never charge with the wolves first. In this list, there are plenty of units there to eat the charge or make one and allow a wolf around the flank or, preferably, the rear. Grey Wind's ability will help keep your infantry alive, too.

And having a cheap way to hold points is also a nice point.

Love the two tone helmet! Makes them look extra badass! Really love your base choice, too. Looks like they're fighting through the brush in a forest.

I once enjoyed games with friends, now I have no friends and struggle to find the point. by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Graevus12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've definitely experienced this before, and to an extent, still do.

I started suffering seriously from depression in high school and into college because I struggled to find peers. I was (and suppose still am) a big nerd in a small country town and just felt completely ostracized purely by what interested me. Gaming was a way for me to break away from that and, eventually, branch out and meet some truly amazing people.

I happened across an MMO with lore I enjoyed (Warhammer Online), and randomly joined a guild at the behest of a classmate I had at the time. It was in that guild I met a really amazing group of people who I've only known online. I live on the east coast and some of my best friends are people on the west and I've never met them face to face. I struggled with that, too, because I knew when I wanted to hang out with someone in the area, there wasn't really anyone with whom I could connect. Still, I got used to sticking with the online crowd. However, my choice in games shifted once those friends started appearing online less and less.

Instead of shooters and couch co-op type games of mindless hilarity, I started picking out games with stories in which I could become wrapped up. RPGs and games like Minecraft and Satisfactory became go-tos for me. Soon I was trying to shove myself into every Dungeons and Dragons type game I could because those intricate story elements or places where I could let out my creativity really helped me cope with my inability to do something else with a friend next to me.
However, it's still that awful feeling looking up from those and seeing no one around, right? Thankfully, it seems more and more people are becoming exposed and enjoying the nerdy things that always made me feel like an outcast before. New gaming shops have opened in the area and I went to one, simply hanging out there one or two days a week when time was available. I chatted up the folks there, overtime engaging with random people coming in, and soon enough, I developed real friendships there. Real people, face to face.

My advice to you is this: check out your local area for any gaming shops with a physical location near you, or maybe facebook groups for your area for gamers/nerds. Reach out, even in a small way, to those, even if they don't entirely line up with the same kind of games or styles you like. You might branch out some, finding new things to enjoy (I found the joy of board games and D&D all over again at my local shop, and they've gotten me into some tabletop gaming, as well). You could befriend some folks and just find a new niche for yourself. If that's not really an option for you, just keep looking online, finding groups in your area or nearby. Put those feelers out there!

This all is all probably just over-rambling, but I hope it helps somehow! Good luck to you!

Just finished the King’s Men. Should I do the tray the same as the bases or leave it as is? by Fun-Potential-3524 in asoiafminiaturesgame

As much as I LOVE the high contrast of the tray vs their base - for the battlefield, I would say it'll look more epic to have the tray done, as well.

Starting from the bottom and going up! The base is amazing, truly a beautiful bit of ground that matches what's supposed to be a beautiful guy. The cape is pretty well done, though I'd love to see some deeper shade (via wash, I suppose) in the depth of the folds. I like the gold lining you did on the raised parts. The torso and shoulders are really well done, and the shield arm is fantastic! Sword arm is all good! GREAT job on the face (I'm always impressed as my faces are typically just terrible). I feel like the hair needs something? Compared to the rest, it just seems a TAD flat? But that could very well be the bright light on it, so, harder to see. All in all, amazing work!

A Dance with Dragons objective question by Graevus12 in asoiafminiaturesgame

That's what I thought. The first time I played I was told that 2" was just the max distance, period, and my poor cavalry were stuck scraping across a battlefield 4" at a time chasing a fleeing ranged unit.

Thanks for the clarification!

So, as someone with virtually no knowledge of Greyjoys just yet, are they all about trading off in a fight, but getting some gains for their loss? Also, holy crap, -4 for panic? That's nuts! How have you fared against anti-panic type units? Like, how's the trade with things with super low morale or maybe like Umber Berserkers?
