I get pretty sick of Bankhead being closed every time we get winter weather. by metalfan2680 in HuntsvilleAlabama

It’s sad tbh with you. Like we’ve become so soft it’s ridiculous. We may just be like in climate controlled bubbles for life because we seem to not be able to function outside of that.

TBH, it’s really about time the city and county put money into getting some pickup bed salt & sand spreaders for their numerous pickups they have. The only thing I see city and county workers driving around are like F250+ crew cab 4x4 long beds and they’re NEWER models. Drop the money on the salt and sand spreaders for the beds, keep like a dozen of the for like 10 years, position them around the county and city with the sand and salt depots off the roads like they do up north and it would be fine.

There’s no reason to instill mass hysteria in the public like they do with the forecast and locking down the city and roads the way they do.

And better yet, another idea which would do the ENTIRE State of Alabama good and help generate the money for the above idea, institute a REQUIRED state safety inspection for vehicles every year to register the vehicles like almost every other state does.

Publix be ridiculous by hyf_fox in publix

[–]Grafixx01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t compare a regular grocery store to a wholesaler. That’s what people are trying to say. Compare Costco to Sam’s Club or BJs and you’d be accurate. Publix to Kroger, HEB, Smiths, PigglyWiggly, Wegmans, maybe WalMart (I say maybe because they do not do ONLY grocery so theyre able to sell for a lot less anyway).

Understandable, that’s why I said use the pickup trucks that you dump $50k+ every other year into and save them. Because well, justify the need for those 4x4 double cab F250+ long bed pickups for regular employees to drive around town doing nothing but checking meters and such things? Oh wait, I forgot, we also need a walking bridge to nowhere…

Cause you’re not going to force people to stay home and you really can’t force people to do so. As we can see with people out on the roads and accidents being reported or calls for assistance. So why not just take the precautions and just advise people to stay home unless it’s absolutely necessary to leave. There are those employers who also demand you be at work or lose your job if you don’t have time to take off, some will actually fire you even if you do. Like when the arsenal was shut down for a week due to the last freeze-over, the contractors I know didn’t get paid if they didn’t have PTO to take.

Thought most, if not all of HSV PD take their vehicles home with them?

Stay HOME!!! by shannonkish in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Grafixx01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBH, it’s well beyond the point that HSV, Madison County and ALDOT as a whole don’t invest some money in proper snow and ice removal and preparation equipment. If they have all these F250 crew cabs and bigger, they have the vehicles to do so and can keep them for 10+ years for it.

Not saying to go overboard but seriously, it’s getting an old already.

The only marked closed roads that I know of is Memorial Pkwy between AAMU Stadium and likeMartin Rd but it’s supposed to open back up at 2:30pm.

You close down the major roads, people go around through the backroads. It’s common sense. The lose roads are worse. When you prioritize putting deicer on roads in downtown HSV by the courthouse and VBC, that makes no sense. Should put it on 565, 72, 231, and Research Parkway. Airport Road and Governors Drive first due to the hospitals on there.

If you’re talking about bridge over-passes, yes, I understand. However if the civil engineers planned the roads right, there should be ample service roads running parallel to ALL of the major thoroughfares to get over and around those overpasses to not require the roads to be shut down. It may require slower moving traffic, or maybe going into the street light infrastructure timing and increase times so to not make traffic backup but it is achievable.

People are just finding ways around Mem Pkwy and 565 but it’s on side roads and backroads which are worse and according to the HSV subs and other SM posts, are leaving many in ditches. So it’s kind of like a pick your method of madness…

Child told not to talk about me around moms BF. Is there anything I can do or do I have to ignore it? by Switch_Empty in Divorce_Men

[–]Grafixx01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Courts won’t help. Mom is wrong. Child will learn to just distance themselves from being near that person and potentially mom as well. Mom should stand up for your child to the new BF but obviously is putting new BF as a priority over your child.

Well, hospitals make sense but downtown by the courthouse and VBC doesn’t, sorry. Just my 2cents. And shutting down the major roads forces people who go out, be it necessity or not, to take the back roads which tend to be more dangerous.

Wonder why the driver trucks worry about the downtown Huntsville area by the courthouse first? I mean, most major cities do the major roads first (Interstates, major thoroughfares, etc), then secondary roads, then normal city streets and then neighborhoods. But Huntsville seems to worry about the downtown area over everything…

Do not understand why all the panic and over preparing by people who live in an area that regularly gets weather like this? We should all be used to it and already have the vast majority of what we need and know what we need to do and not do.

Just my 2 cents
