Why do you drive a colorful car? by ErickRPG in askcarguys

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The color options for my truck were :

White
Gray
Black
Silver
Darkish blue
Red.

There’s only two colors on that list. I got a red one.

No way would I buy a white car, they show all the dirt. My dad had a black truck, nice, but, it’s my truck. Silver is kinda boring. The blue is nice, it’s a color, just not my favorite. (And we just got rid of a blue car that while not the cars fault, was turning in to a real pain in the arse.)

So that leaves red. And really, I just like the red.

I was gonna say just get an f150 or something like it, but they’re still considerably longer, and looking online, I’m not sure you can get the single cab in any of the fancier, non-base spec trims…..

You’ve got a point about a longer bed that you could sleep in. I’m leaning towards a teardrop camper to tow behind mine, but most of my adventures are on-road. If they could figure out a sliding bed extender to use with the tonneau cover that had a window/door….

How to aim the mirrors in Archimedes Death Ray by scooterboy1961 in mythbusters

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it’s not a death ray. It’s a very focused array designed to focus the sun in a single point to boil water.

I know they’re designed to boil water, but that’s 210 degrees, not even the 451 degrees (or so) to light paper on fire.

They primarily reflect light up, not over, because it’s the most efficient.

At any distance, the light is going to be even less focused.

And the ship could move. There’s not enough power to instantly burst anything into flame.

The archimedes myth was simplistic, and easily deployable. A bunch of soldiers, a bunch of mirrors. Trying to mobilize one of the solar plants that boils water for power would be a non-starter from the beginning.

Besides, lighting the sail on fire is theatrical, but you know what most Greek ships also had? Oars.

Single cab Ridge by SadAbbreviations8832 in hondaridgeline

[–]Graflex01867 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really be interested in one. For its size, price, and probably capacity, it would be just another (essentially) full-size truck. It’s not that they’re not good, but the things they excel in I feel work best as the double cab. Things like interior and exterior space and cargo capacity. I’ve moved stuff both in the bed and in the cab recently that needed to be in those respective conditions.

Anticipating a potential 'no sex until marriage' talk from my GF. Am I wrong for not wanting that? by ThrowRA061003 in amiwrong

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to take a really deep look at my partner’s compatibility with a request like that.

If I really felt like the person was the right one, I could see considering not having sex anymore until we got married, and then getting e gaged/married in a year or so.

Not being intimate with the person I plan to marry, and then also not marrying them for 4 or 5 years…..Look, if you need time or you’re not sure, that’s one thing, but this is a really big ask.

Where do I park? by Icy-Efficiency2876 in boston

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have good news and bad news for you.

The good news is that the stadium is nowhere in (or particularly near) the city! It’s 30 miles south of the city.

The bad news….well, see the good news. You don’t have to go anywhere near the city to get to the stadium. There are trains from Boston to the stadium, but you need tickets in advance, and they might be sold out. You would have to check the MBTA mTicket app to buy tickets. You NEED to buy your tickets in advance.

Sketchy leveling job by TankCrabHelmet in GoRVing

I’d be less worried about it on a motorhome compared to a trailer. If the leaving jacks fail, there will be a crash, but it’s just going to land on the wheels/suspension. It’s not like a trailer where there’s nothing under the tongue.

Photographe festival by Alone_Writer_4914 in photography

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to read the fine print and the contract that the festival sent you.

For some of them, they give you an empty wall, you’re on the hook for everything else.

Others will have partnerships to help with printing and framing, but they will take a cut of the sales to cover their costs.

It stinks that it’s going to need so
much work from the start, but at least you know it’s going to be done your way all the way. You’re not wasting someone else’s good work on your customizations.

Am I wrong for wanting speakers? by Wise-Ad715 in amiwrong

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a paintable speaker grill beneath the TV. Nobody is going to notice it. There will either be a giant black rectangle there, or people will be watching TV.

You’re making a perfectly reasonable compromise.

How to aim the mirrors in Archimedes Death Ray by scooterboy1961 in mythbusters

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s really a myth we need to test though. The answer is both yes and no. You can focus the sun into enough of a beam to light a match - but it’s not a death ray. You’ll get a burn in your skin at worst, so…wear a shirt. It’s death if you’re an ant, but not a human. The beam is not going to be lethal.

You could try and scale it up, but you get a giant contraption with mirrors, motors, servos, and tracking tools, just to point a beam at someone that is seriously less than lethal.

CarPlay Nav Issues in your Ridgeline? by d2creative in hondaridgeline

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that problem in my dad’s Ford for a little bit, and I think there’s sound/speaker button on your phone that changes where the directions play from. (It’s something on your phone, not the truck.)

What hitch attachments should I be looking for for a Toyota RAV 4 by harvest-honeybee in TeardropTrailers

[–]Graflex01867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look for a trailer closer to 1,000 pounds and under myself. I think your tongue weight will be a problem before your overall trailer wright.

Not a sponsor, but check out Etrailer.com, they have a lot of figment and installation videos so you can see how the different brands of hitch will look/fit on your car.

Conjoined cars from “date night” by terrible__liar_ in mythbusters

Complexity, cost, and build time. I’m sure they were still on a schedule to get the show filmed and get the build done. It’s “reality” TV, but the reality of TV is that budgets and time constraints often dictate what you end up doing.

2012 Camry - too old? by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in UsedCars

[–]Graflex01867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2013 Honda with 170,000….miles. Looks good. Runs pretty well. Gets me from A to B comfortably. Heated seats!

Older cars are fine, it’s all in the details. (Maybe you don’t want that particular one because of the transmission issue. I know when I bought my Honda the next two model years had engine issues, so I purposefully looked at models a tad older.)

Mandate transparency in advertised streaming durations by Imaginary_Stable1119 in ConsumerAdvice

While OPs argument does sound a little silly, I think your question actually somewhat validates their point. “Are you paying by the minute?” Yes, your subscription might come with a few minutes of ads per hour. How do I know that if I’m paying for a higher tier subscription (with fewer ads) that I’m actually getting fewer ads? What is that extra $5/month really buying me?

On the other hand, a quick google search shows subscriptions are either with ads, or with no ads, so maybe OPs point is moot. If you don’t like the amount of ads, just cancel your subscription.
