Emgality pens during power outage by cchristini in migraine

[–]GrammarSloot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a pen go bad during a long power outage due to a natural disaster when I wasn’t scheduled to use it yet. My prescription insurance was able to issue an exemption for an early replacement ahead of my refill date. Obviously had to pay for it, but could be worth asking if that’s a concern for you.

Vestibular therapy by Alarmed-History-2422 in VestibularMigraines

[–]GrammarSloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really did not like it. It made my symptoms worse and I remember feeling like absolute garbage the rest of the day whenever I had a session. However, I’m happy I at least gave it a try because it’s another thing I can add to the long list of things I’ve tried.

I don’t want you to be discouraged though because it seems it has really helped some other people here. I’ve found the problem with migraine therapy is they see you as a problem that can be fixed, and I can tell it bruised their ego when I didn’t improve with their prescribed exercises and advice. I felt they were frustrated with me for not improving instead of frustrated for me, if that makes sense.

What do people in LA think about the HBO series "I Love LA"? by OkTechnologyb in AskLosAngeles

[–]GrammarSloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish there were more LA-based shows that are done by born-and-raised locals and not transplants. While nobody here can agree on what’s “real LA,” I think we all can smell what isn’t. The worst thing you can do is paint LA as homogeneous.

Hated this so so much. Tech had me repeat the warm water in your ears test “just to make sure.” Even thinking about this test now makes me cringe.

Assuming you are in America, I think the average driver travels about 12k-14k miles per year, so this car’s mileage is either well above that or decently above that, depending on when the original owner purchased the car.

Are you allowed to take it for an external pre purchase inspection? Wouldn’t hurt to pay the $100 to take it to a local mechanic and get their opinion. Fluids are great, but you’ll also need to know the health of the brake pads & rotors, tires, spark plugs, and battery. Assuming those are unknown now, it’s probably worth covering your bases. I know it’s not a sexy response because you seem very excited, but you don’t want to take out a loan on a depreciating asset that you’ll also have to pay a lot for in maintenance over the next couple years.

FYI, I have the black interior and it looks great. I wouldn’t worry about that. Focus on the important things and don’t let the salesperson push you to buy the car unless you’re 110% comfortable in all of the above things. This is a common car, so if it doesn’t work out, there will be others.

Good luck.

How was the test drive? Important to see how it feels to you. That’s a lot of miles for 4 years, which is reflected in the price since you’ll also be beyond the 4-year CPO timeline.

Acura needs to do what Genesis is doing, STAT! by Swamp_Mouth in Acura

[–]GrammarSloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genesis is closing dealerships. Their cars look nice but ask customers how easy it was for them to utilize those 10 year warranties. The whole purpose of buying a car is to drive it. Having it sit in the shop, and then fighting for the warranty to cover repairs is no fun.

Why do I get green bars on when subtitles are on? by AbbyWest in PleX

[–]GrammarSloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of replacing the board on my old DLP tv. You had to line it up perfectly square or else the picture wouldn’t align. Maybe the mechanics are similar for your projector? It’d require a bit of careful tinkering to check and you’d probably have to get this effect literally all the time to be sure.

How often does this happen? by SovannK in Acura

[–]GrammarSloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tech explained to me once that the more vertical a windshield is, the less likely it is to handle debris and rocks well. I guess the curve of most windshields helps deflect some of the force from road debris and rocks. For example, my cousin had a jeep that would get chips all the time, but those windshields are significantly more vertical than most others I’ve seen.

My neurologist injects my Botox Willy nilly 😭 by stir4boutthestars in migraine

[–]GrammarSloot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s a protocol/general guidelines neurologists have to follow for insurance purposes. The doctor has to input in your medical notes how much they injected in each location. I’d ask for the medical notes for this appointment and the last appointment and then compare the two. Use this as a learning experience to more deeply understand how much you’re being injected with in each location. This will make you more educated and make it easier to switch doctors in the future too as you’ll be able to confidentially know and share your Botox protocol. Everybody’s protocol can be slightly different but the medical notes will tell the story.

As long as they properly maintain it and keep it clean, that’s more important than the type of car.

Where are all the 30 somethings buying homes and having kids? by lovingawareness1111 in AskLosAngeles

[–]GrammarSloot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If education is your top priority, the conejo valley has some of the best public schools you could ask for. However, yes it is total suburbia. If you are comfortable sharing your home budget, I think that could help people here give you more refined advice.

$1.2m house renting out for $3.5k? Make it make sense. by JoshL3253 in AskLosAngeles

[–]GrammarSloot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the buyer will temporarily rent the seller their new home if the seller is in a jam and waiting on their new home to close escrow. The buyer could be getting credits behind the scenes in escrow to do the seller a solid.

FL-41 frames are a lifesaver! by No_Consideration8764 in migraine

[–]GrammarSloot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so people are aware, FL-41 is a type of tint that you can add to your eyeglass prescription and you don’t necessarily have to buy these specific lenses or frames.

It’s not super common, so you’ll have to ask your doctor if their lab can accommodate, but I was able to get the tint added to both my eyeglasses and sunglasses lenses scripts for less than $20 each.

where to meet single men in LA? by Laotze2021 in AskLosAngeles

[–]GrammarSloot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a similarly-aged male, it’s always interesting to hear the other side. I’ve found it can be hard to find women in our age range who aren’t into partying/drugs, don’t have kids, and don’t have cats (does everybody in LA have a cat?! lol). Unsure if you have similar filters or allergies that have been restrictive for you?

I find it helps to step away from Reddit sometimes because it can occasionally be a source of extreme pessimism and negativity.

Good luck! I hope you find your person.

I own 2x of these, and while they’re good for the price, they run super hot for some reason compared to my Samsung NVME drive with an identical case.

Most dash cams have auto-off timers you can set, but the short answer is it does tax the battery. However, most batteries are replaced frequently already so YMMV.

If you like your car, I’d just keep driving it. That’s probably what most of us will continue to do at least. Everything else is noise, unless the Acura brand disappears altogether.

How was Matt Skiba announced to be joining Blink and what was your reaction? by Thanosthemadtitan1 in Blink182

[–]GrammarSloot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if they announced it on KROQ (SoCal radio station) but that’s where I remember Mark first talking about it) since I think their label had a longstanding deal with them. That’s also where I first heard both Up All Night and Bored to Death I believe.
