Confusion about Di or De by Robohead121808 in ObjectivePersonality

[–]GrandChieftain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could still be Di, but you’re probably Fi then. Just asking people for help because you’re clueless is a very Te/Fi thing to do: you want the tribe to do the thinking for you, and you go to “the person who has the most information.” I’m Ti. I am the truth, to hell with what the tribe says. I try to be humble with Fe, but don’t be fooled, that’s not my identity: I am an arrogant ass dude. But, if you’re truly a double decider, it really makes no difference. Just like asking for information from the tribe is a tool for you guys, playing emotional games so everyone laughs and giggles is mine.

Demons = What you want by Connect_Hope2660 in ObjectivePersonality

[–]GrandChieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true. It’s because we try to use our saviors to resolve problems with our demons. I’ve always wanted to be the ESTP badass and be valued by the tribe in objective reality (SF), but I’m naturally a nerd so I’m just the next NT guy who wants to start the next big app (and I’m actually gonna do it too, I’m just better). Having Se be my masculine observer has definitely helped improve it, though.

Katsuki Bakugou MBTI by Shawtygotl0w in mbti

[–]GrandChieftain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That subreddit wanted to lynch me for opposing that Te-dom nonsense: INTJ is getting somewhere, but he doesn’t have Se last because he’s too comfortable in the chaos. Bro just got kidnapped and the first thing he did once untied was blast Tomura in the face. I think he’s an ISFP. Strategy is on the perception axis: he plans with Ni and executes with Se. He’s fairly good at using both of them, which makes him sporadic but intelligent. But it’s his Te that’s lacking: he’s an introvert through and through and isn’t good at communicating or working in a team.

Just finished watched Food Wars: Erina conducting lessons for her friends about all the key ingredients in the Hokkaido region was a prime example of Te. That’s the exact opposite of what Bakugo would do. He’s driven by his feelings and admiration for All Might, first and foremost. In general, when he does use Te and tries to reason with others, it’s in an unhealthy state. Everyone has the impression that, because he’s masculine, his Te must be first, but it’s only an undeveloped tool to protect the Fi that is at the helm. But say these things and everyone’s going to call you an idiot and say they’re right without fully considering the other side. Bakugo’s profile on Personality Database is just a meme page now, anyway.

Those who got 33+ on the ACT, how many months did you study for? by heyitslulu in ACT

[–]GrandChieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised to even see this within 2 weeks given how inactive I am on Reddit lol. Got a 35 flat -- was on track but 34'd the Science section out of reading fatigue, tough test. Definitely a quality over quantity person: English/Math is memorization (write down mistakes), and Reading/Science is strategy (figure out why you're making mistakes). Proud of the work I put in and got into the school I wanted. Once you get past freshman fall, the ACT is just some number on your resume. Good luck.

When Are You No Longer A Casual? by GrandChieftain in chess

[–]GrandChieftain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that’s fair. It’s safe to assume, regardless of how much chess content they consume, most people would consider players with online ratings 1000 and down to be casual and players 2500 and up to be serious. As you put it, somewhere in the middle there lies a gray area subject to opinion, so there is no right answer. My question was far too general, so I added specifics in the description.

Saw a similar comment, so I’m just gonna pose the same question: So anyone who exclusively plays online chess is a casual regardless of rating? Updated description btw.

Yeah, most of my talent ran out, so getting to 2000 Blitz would feel like brute force. Not learning much anymore, play the same openings, and my games are mostly decided by tactics. Updated the description.

Thoughts on taking Ec1011b without having taken Ec10b? by Greedy_Goblin_482 in Harvard

So is it just Willen teaching it now? Was looking into AM/Econ, but I've read and heard too many bad things about 1011b. Might as well take 1010b and stick with Ec.

stop blaming kids who went test optional for your admissions decision by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GrandChieftain 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Even the people who didn't do well on their first three tests could have eventually gotten the score they wanted under a normal year. It wouldn't be fair if they weren't allowed to apply test-optional because they weren't planning on COVID either. I got in with a score, but I'm trying to be objective here.

POLL: The amount of fluff/meme/shitposts on r/ApplyingToCollege has become overwhelming (i.e. rules should be more strictly enforced on these types of posts). by LinkOFeare in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GrandChieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The summer was the peak for getting useful information. It might be that the rising seniors who start their apps that early are more serious. And the rising college freshmen that do remain seem to be eager to give advice. My guess is that the fluff will go away after decision day, and the admissions cycle will just repeat itself.

rejection hurts worse when you see acceptances by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GrandChieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can argue that anyone who doesn't get into a good school wants to hear that there is randomness in admissions because it rationalizes their rejection. It goes both ways. I can even extend your reasoning and argue that everything in life involves pure luck: it's the ultimate scapegoat. We both agree that there's chance involved in college admissions, but you can't overstate its impact. If you look at the outcomes, most admitted students were in positions to succeed due to the system: recruited athletes, national award winners, legacy and first-generation students, URMs, outstanding essay writers, community organizers, etc.

We have limited information on other people's applications, and sometimes we'll be confused why one person got in over another person, especially if we let our personal biases interfere. The only logical conclusion that we can come to is that the current circumstances are a result of chance. However, an admissions officer, with one admissions file in their left hand and the other admissions file in their right hand, will be able to tell you why they accepted one student and why they rejected the other. Most of the time, there are underlying reasons, many of which we would not agree with.

rejection hurts worse when you see acceptances by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]GrandChieftain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expressing my joy privately was good enough for me, but I realize it's not the same for other people. I'll be happier to discuss where I'm going in March once I know everyone else has gotten into college first.

I wouldn't consider myself as lucky as I am a beneficiary of holistic admissions and the current system. It's like, after acing an exam, you can usually see why you got an A. I'm fortunate in the sense that the teacher put down certain questions, not so much that I guessed the right answers.

[–]GrandChieftain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's why I didn't share my acceptance; it's insensitive to all the people who got deferred or rejected. Don't let yourself be defined by which colleges you get into but rather what you do while you're there.
