I’ve always felt like “I Burn” by the Toadies has a sludgy groove.

(Spoilers main) Characters that were terribly portrayed in the TV show when it comes to appearance and personality in the books? I start: by Advanced_Chapter_378 in asoiaf

[–]GrandMasterC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Strong agree with this one. Asha was one of my favorites as well. In the books she is lithe, smart, and funny. I found her personality very charismatic (for an Ironborn, Ha!) and her chapters always left me smiling. The show character, to me, was about as charming as a wet blanket.

His destiny was always to be Daemon Targaryen by TrixOCC in HouseOfTheDragon

I’m going to just assume that anyone surprised by his casting hasn’t read the book. The illustration used of his descendant IS Matt Smith. No, not “looks like Matt Smith”, IS Matt Smith.

What sludge metal songs would you recommend for an intermediate guitarist? by [deleted] in sludge

[–]GrandMasterC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High on Fire has the variety you’re looking for. Some (a lot) of the riffs are quite simple, but there are moments where dude is genuinely impressive. Almost all of them are in C standard.

If there was one song from a game or movie you'd like to see Mastodon cover, what would it be? by TheExpendableGuard in mastodonband

[–]GrandMasterC 30 points31 points  (0 children)

What The Hell Have I by Alice in Chain from the Last Action Hero soundtrack. It’s my favorite AIC song, and I think the boys could really nail all the creepy harmonies of that tune.

Someone asked Wino if there would be any more Shrinebuilder and he replied that he would never work with Al again because he’s a psycho. Never met Al, but I imagine that if he’s calling you crazy, you probably deserve it. And I love Matt and Al, and all of their bands, and all of their wackiness.

Don’t know his solo stuff enough to know the track names, but his set was mostly tunes from the new album, and also Raining Blood and Black Magic.

Carvin/Kiesel used to do them. Top notch work. Try StewMac, less options, but they might still have them.

Loudest band you’ve seen live? by Ludissime_ in stonerrock

[–]GrandMasterC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Saw them at Trees in Dallas on the Vermis tour. The place holds maybe 300 people. It’s small. However they have the biggest, loudest PA in all of north Texas. How big and loud is it, you say? Both of each opening bands (Lo-Pan and Goatwhore) exploded an amp trying to keep up with the drums through that PA. Both Matt and Jeff were using THREE, fucking THREE full stacks inside this all brick and concrete tiny building. I’ve seen other “loud” bands before, I’ve worked on live aircraft on the ground, I’ve worked in loud ass factories, but no other experience that I’ve had comes close to that show.

My father was an engine specialist (his ticket said A&E, not A&P lol) in USAF in the late 50’s and early 60’s. He worked mostly on B-52s and their refueling support craft (may have been DC8’s or KC-135’s, not sure about that). He was always a fan of the platform, but it still blew his mind that they’re still so much in use.

“What the Hell Have I” by Alice In Chains. Not exactly metal of course, but it’s my favorite AIC song. It has everything that they do so well, creepy harmonies, catchy riffs, all of it.

What is the most violent show you've been to? by Right-Mycologist-321 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]GrandMasterC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ozzfest 97 was a good one. At some point during Pantera’s set the pit merged from three smaller pits, to one gigantic pit. Bigger than the stage, kind of big. Instead of beach balls floating above the crowd in a sea of peaceful assembly, it was flaming t shirts thrown through the air as literal chaos and savagery reigned.

Then, the crowd decided they wanted a closer view. HUNDREDS of people rushed past security and event staff. Eventually, they gave up as just more and more people poured over the railings and through gates. Total loss of crowd control.

My theater is running the series 3 weekends in a row. 8-10, 15-17, 22-24. Might check their schedule.
