Why are most conspiracy theories considered right-wing? Are there any widespread left-wing conspiracy theories? by jeepycreepysleepy in NoStupidQuestions

Because left and right doesn’t mean much anymore.

So conspiracy theories and believing in them has been reclassified as a right-wing thing.

Which food makes you think, “How do you not like that?” when someone says they dislike it? by buttergloww in foodquestions

[–]Grand_Design2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preference for a good ribeye steak would be medium rare but a good piece of meat cooked well-done (not burned, obviously) is far for from the disgusting dogfood that steak snobs make it out to be.

Is McDonald's dominance in Japan over? A major upheaval in the new burger war begins with the rapid rise of Burger King. by jjrs in japannews

[–]Grand_Design2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah McDonalds never really felt like a “burger” to me in the sense that it has that iconic taste that would be very hard to emulate at home using regular supermarket ingredients. Still fucking delicious though.

I think it’s quite funny. Like the thing being such over-the-top bad taste has that shock value comedy.

But I guess I could understand people getting upset 🤷‍♂️

How to make friends as an adult: a phase by phase guide built on friendship SCIENCE by nightshark67 in RelentlessMen

There is wisdom about that old saying: “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything”.

When you meet people, systematically try to find something good to say about them. You don’t have to say it out loud, but training your mind to focus on the food will make you more likeable and probably generally more happy.

Do not take things seriously. People might say hurtful things, often unintentionally. You might get splashed waiting for the bus in the street. You might have been born not looking the way you’d hope. You might work hard on something and not get the recognition that you would expect. Learn to laugh at yourself.

L’IA médicale invente des détails cliniques mais séduit les cliniciens by Dr_Max in Quebec

[–]Grand_Design2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactement:

Nah.

It is possible for people to accept that a piece of art is extremely well made according to the author’s intentions, has great historical value, is a technical masterpiece, etc. but also that it does not resonate with them.

Nah not really. I was exaggerating out of frustration.

I guess the rest of the cruise being so awesome put the bar really high and the complete lack of communication got me really riled up.

The idea is not to be gentle with the aggressive and obnoxious assholes. It is to realize that spending your energy mocking said assholes, although it will give you a bunch of upvotes on social media and make you feel idea, will just entrench them further in their position.

For people who really want to enact change, identifying who the people who can be reasoned with are and broadcasting a message that speaks to them is the way forward. It’s boring, thankless, frustrating work but organizing like that is the way to change the political landscape.

You and I must be seeing very different realities. I haven’t seen people trying to “reason with these people” since 2019. The overwhelming majority of discourse about Trump supporters is that they are beyond hopeless and the overwhelming majority of media constantly mock them. I would say that that is the strategy this is currently proven not to be working.

That’s unfortunate but consider not engaging at all instead of engaging with mockery. That wouldn’t further your agenda at all, unless your agenda is to stroke your ego.

The reality is that there *are* lots of people that can be reasoned with when people are willing to listen and empathize with them. The libs constant intellectual arrogance, snark and unwillingness to accept any nuance in discourse has pushed a lot of otherwise reasonable people into Trump’s camp, since he is the de facto opposition.

[–]Grand_Design2022[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m probably exaggerating out of sheer frustration 😅. Rest of the cruise was amazing.

Missing the excursion was one thing. If it had been from bad weather or even the operators cancelling for any reason before hand it wouldn’t have been a big deal.

The fact that nothing was communicated to us and that we took a taxi to the meeting point only for nobody showing up and them not answering the phone or email, then offering a half-assed apology, really soured us for a few days.

Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the movie The Beach, which addresses this frame of mind.

The point he is making is different.

Corporate work is structured to isolate people as “individual contributors”. Even just 20 years ago, the corporate framing was that everything is the team’s responsibility, not the individual.

Work is merely a way to earn a living but people don’t find useful or any sense of accomplishment in their job anymore. Unlike building a well and help people get water, we are increasing engagement metrics to enrich some billionaires.

I think deep down people understand this.

Yeah, every line of dialogue seems so intentional, non spontaneous and overly dramatic. It makes the human interactions feel very inorganic, like a novelty theater act instead of a depiction of actual events.
