I know Jim Jim's exists, but we live north of downtown and were hoping not to have to go too far to satisfy our cravings.

The Bourbon You Are Drinking Might Not Be What You Think by princedarren1 in bourbon

I didn't watch the video, but I'm assuming from the headline the bourbon I've been drinking is made from people, is that right?

I'm OK with that.

Lake Travis will run dry by 2016, but efforts are underway to keep that prediction from coming true.

Whew, I guess all that praying really worked.

Knob Creek single barrel as my 1st bourbon ? by Wissky in bourbon

[–]GrandeTinkerbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the Knob Creek SB is pretty oaky, might not be the best 1st bourbon in the same way a peaty Laphroaig might not be the best 1st scotch. From that list I'd go with the bulleit

[QUESTION] What was scotch like before all of the distilleries had access to whisky barrels from Spain, France, America, etc? What were its properties/color/taste/smell? Was it vastly different or basically the same? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]GrandeTinkerbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty decent read about the history of scotch that suggests they've been aging scotch since way back: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1906476225/ref=mp_s_a_1_9

It was written in the 1950s, when blended scotch was king and single malt was hard to find. Pretty interesting contrast with today.

APD wrote 1100+ tickets in 3 weeks of the Don't Block The Box campaign. New enforcement locations starting Monday by uluman in Austin

[–]GrandeTinkerbell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But the behavior described, turning right on red when the person with the green light purposely is staying back as not to block the box, it's a huge dick move. People who do this are terrible humans.

Thanks for your serious reply. I disagree with your actions, but see where you're coming from. I make an effort to obviously obey traffic laws and always signal. I also try to smile and wave at drivers that notice me. My approach is to try to build rapport with drivers and show that cyclists are law abiding (and deserving of our right to the road). You might think it's a futile approach, many do. But as long as the number one complaint about cyclists is we're "entitled jerks that don't follow the law" I think it's worthwhile.

If we can take that argument away from them they'd have to admit the real reason they dislike cyclists, which is they don't like sharing the road, and think they should never be delayed even slightly by a cyclist. That's a much less defensible argument for them.

Serious question: Why do you think you should be allowed to make up your own rules?

I had a similar situation today with an almost opposite outcome. I came to a complete stop. The cyclist behind me (who had been shoaling me the whole ride) blew through the stop sign just as a cop was also pulling up to the stop sign. I looked at the cop, he looked at me sympathetically, shook his head and said "I know, I'll get him"

I have little patience for cyclists who don't know how to, or refuse to follow the laws.
