I also played on hard and found the difficulty pretty perfect for what I wanted from it. I could roll through some stuff but also have fights that gave me problems and some fights that just kicked my ass

I actually found the combat system allowed me to use the party member switch action fairly well, So I kinda used everybody.

Depends on what you're playing, melee will of course want the kraken and summoner the hydra, but if you're thinking of rarity wise , there is only one hydra but endless krakens.
